Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
Note: I did not say we have to lower expectations, just recalibrate.
The "problem" with eating steak is, once you've had it you don't want to go back to hamburgers and hotdogs. Saban got us used to steak for 16 years. I'm struggling going back to the burgers and hotdogs...

This is extremely fair perspective from @WMack4Bama @B1GTide and @Bamabuzzard

It's not matter of who's right or wrong. I think the coaching staff has opportunities to correct the issues with OL that popped up all season long. I think this is the first off-season where they truly can breath and fix what's broken. The tackle .. just put Fromby there and put Caroll and we should be okay.

Only thing I'm concerned right now is the OC.... I don't think he did great job calling plays...

I'll dig in this tomorrow!

I don't even mind a hot dog but don't drop them one at a time into the fire and not figure out why it's happening.

SIAP Saw some videos implying Milroe was tipping run and pass plays with his feet. If feet were even it was a run if they were offset it was a pass.

Maybe a new QB will help the Oline perform better for those concerned

Happy New Year TideFans. Hope everyone is healthy, happy, and prosperous.

These last 3-4 seasons have been frustrating as all get out. 21-22 felt like we wasted the most prolific passer in program history with ineptitude at multiple spots around him. And 23-24 was a roller coaster I never want to see us on again.

All that said, I'm excited about the direction we're heading. First thing we have to do is recalibrate our expections. Realize that what Nick Saban did here was completely abnormal. Those of us who have been in here at least since the Dubose/Fran/Price/Shula days can appreciate that fact. Also, know that college football in January 2007 (when Saban took over) and January 2025 are WORLDS apart. As challenging as it was when Saban took over, he had some very important constants with regard to roster. In today's CFB, the only thing constant is change. It's a delicate balance.

And along those same lines, with the expanded CFP, we'll be in and in contention more years than not.

For everyone bashing CKD for not pulling the plug on this year's QB, keep in mind that CNS had every opportunity to do it permanently and he didn't. And I don't subscribe to the idea that the guys behind him could've done any worse. There was clearly some other things at play, but no need to rehash or even harp on that now. Onward.

Going forward, expect the offense to utilize all of the playmakers at our disposal and not be able to be shut down by keying in on one player. Regardless of who the signal caller is, I think we'll be able to take advantage of whatever weaknesses defenses have. With regards to our play caller, know that just as the defense was CNS's no matter who the DC was, this offense is CKD's, no matter who is calling the plays.

Outside of Booker, our entire OL should be back. Traditionally (the past 15 years at least), we do well when we have significant continuity up front on offense.

Very quietly, Kane Wommack and his defense found a groove after the Vandy game. Most of the players on that defense weren't recruited to play in that scheme. So one full year in the defense for the guys coming back (like LT Overton and James Smith) and the injection of talent recruited specifically for this defense (Noah Carter, Duke Johnson, etc.), I'm excited to see where we go from here.

Chin up, friends. A-Day is 3 months away. RTR
Thanks for your positive outlook. I believe you are correct that we should be optimistic about reasonalbe success.

Yes, the GOAT and that era is passed with his retirement and NIL issues, but we have a great young coach who, if given the needed time, will right the ship.

A new QB and recalibrated OL will change everything and, like you said, the defense looks to be a strength moving forward!

I don't think we can emphasize what a difference improved QB play will bring.

FWIW, I believe Keelon Russel is ahead of JM in terms of fundamentals and technique. He looks like a pro in the pocket compared to JM.

That's not a prediction about him playing or starting, but I'm just saying the QB position has a veteran in TS and a potential star in KR coming in. The staff believes he's the best QB recruit in this cycle and they identified him a long time before his recruiting potential got noticed by recruiting services or other teams. That's a great sign IMO that the staff knows the kind of QB they need when they see it!

If it is true that Milroe was tipping plays with his feet then every damn offensive analyst should be canned. This is one of the very reasons you self scout. Something like this should be caught immediately. It is an easy tell, like a pitcher changing his hand/glove position going from fastball to breaking ball in baseball.

It is absolutely inexcusable if true.

He has been doing it all year and the staff has tried to get him to stop doing it. But he either is actively refusing it or just can’t stop doing it.

It was a limited amount of clips so I would have to go back and watch more games to see how it holds up. But in the clips they showed it was 100% accurate

JM is a creature of habit. He can’t stop. BOb was dead on in his statement about JM. He’s the back-up change of pace QB that we were forced to play. He can’t learn a CKD offense and what he has learned he can’t effectively execute. He seldom sees open receivers and when he does he almost never hits them in stride breaking momentum and causing the frustration we witnessed on Tuesday and realization as to why so many receivers hit the portal at first opportunity. He simply doesn’t have the aptitude to change his tendencies.

I used to work for a coach that called it, “the religion of repetition”. Once you have done it for so long it is hard to change the habit or the drill is done so much it is just natural to do it in a live situation.

I saw that. It's concerning and kind of frustrating to watch but it's not all uncommon. I'm a 49ers fan and there was some talk about Trent Williams tipping plays by the way he lined up at LT. Maybe he was...but it's Trent Williams. You still have to get by him. So I said all that to say, even if 4 was tipping plays, I still think we had opportunities to maybe execute a little bit better.
