The thing about verne is he does an Archie Bunker on names. Sometimes it is funny and sometimes frustrating, as in Orlando McCain after Ro had been a top linebacker in the league since he was a freshman.
For many years, I really detested Gary Danielson because he does come across as arrogant and condescending. It must be a northern thing to look at everything from the negative point of view. It took some folks on Tidefans, personal friends and radio heads on Jox to make me take the time to listen to what he says and not how he says it. Now I am fully on the side that Danielson is one of best, if not the best in the business. He doesn't just use cliches. He can see the strength and weaknesses in a team and show them to you. And he breaks down a play better than anyone else in the business.
As commentators, it is Gary and Verne's job to keep the game interesting even when it isn't. Coming out of half time, Danielson was trying to find some way for the Gators to get back into the game. He said basically that Fla should just start chunking it on every play...basically an act of desperation.
But he was deflated by CJ Mosley's interception and saw it coming before it happened. As the play unfolds, he says, "Oh no." quietly and then adds, "yeah." As CJ runs it for a touchdown, as if that put the cap on it for him. Not much else to say. Verne is your goofy uncle, but Danielson knows his trade.
