There are instances where you want to use your body to block a defender, sure, but if you're a WR and can't catch with your hands consistently.....you might want to be a DB.

Right, and he loves to jump in the air on every attempt...which cost him at TD in the last game.

But didn't Texas lose several key offensive linemen to the draft last year? Whereas we had the bulk of our guys returning and was pre-season one of the top offensive lines in the country. We returned enough starters to be better than what we have been. I think Texas replaced a lot of pieces on their OL.

They were complaining about flood last year also. They are not happy with him.

I mean I am not trying to get in trouble here but We had the greatest coach of all times and would usually win like 9 out of our 12 regular season games by 3 scores or more and we would find stuff to gripe and whine about all the time. I include myself in that statement.

Look I am not saying y’all are wrong but that RPO theory doesn’t sound so crazy to me. Just seems like there are a lot more great D-lines than O-lines this year to me.

Edit: that RPO hangover theory i think is in another thread. Hard to keep track lol.

What are the really good DL's this year? I'll start looking at recruiting and transfers and see if there's a trend or an obvious conclusion to see.

The ones I can think of off the top of my head:
Texas A&M
Miami
Missouri
Texas
Tennessee
Oklahoma
Ohio State

Entering the season Phil Steele's top 10 DL:
1. Oklahoma
2. Clemson
3. Penn State
4. Notre Dame
5. Michigan
6. Alabama
7. Texas Tech
8. Iowa
9. Texas
10. Florida

He had Miami at #11

Which the three teams above Alabama in the polls possess. Not to mention, Oklahoma and Auburn both excel in this area.

Just reiterate..I said it “seems like”. Football is so weird now. Ole Miss runs out of gas against a Georgia D whose pass rush is not up to snuff. But then turns around and in the rain puts up 34 on Oklahoma who has been great most of the year.

A&M’s D is being gushed about. But have already giving up 40 points plus points twice this season. Meanwhile our defense gets gashed on the ground but holds Missouri’s rushing offense in check. And holds Tennessee to their lowest point total and total yards all year. It’s makes no sense. lol 😂

Oklahoma starting DL:
LDE - Jones - 5 star senior transfer (2023 at Georgia) (2024 at FSU)
NT - Williams - 3 star senior (2023 at TCU)
DT - Jackson - 4 star sophomore
RDE - Thomas - 4 star senior

Oklahoma 2nd string DL:
LDE - Wein - 3 star sophomore
NT - Stone - 5 star sophomore (from Oklahoma City, OK)
DT - Halton - 4 star senior
RDE - Adabowore - 5 star junior
 
The Bama Defense has worked out most of their issues. The Oline however, has digressed and could easily get exposed in these upcoming games. I would love to see RPO used more.
 
Heading into 2025 these are the highest paid DL coaches in college:
1. Larry Johnson - Ohio State - $1.4 million
2. Tray Scott - Georgia - 1.205
3. Freddie Roach - Bama - 1.2
4. Nick Eason - Clemson - 1.1
5. Chris Rumph - Clemson - 1 million (didn't realize Clemson had 2 DL coaches)
6. Rodney Garner - Tennessee
7. Lou Esposito - Michigan
8. Sterling Lucas - South Carolina
9. Tony Tuioti - Oregon
10. Randall Joyner - Ole Miss

Oklahoma has two DL coaches apparently too......both in the top 15 in salaries.

Bo Davis - DL coach for the Saints now.

Saban's staffs toward the back end of his career was noticeably inferior to the ones he had for most of his tenure. And that's about when we started seeing cracks in the armor, the lack of discipline, etc. When the OL coaching was good we never had this much trouble finding offensive linemen. I just find it hard to believe that the majority of OL'men we've recruited in the last five years are just busts. I just think we've had a drop off in OL coaching.

I'm 100% convinced that it comes down to coaching.

Whatever we would have to pay Jeff Stoutland to pull him away from the Eagles would be worth it.

I'm not so sure about the defense. I haven't see the Film Guy video so don't know if he touched on our defense. From where I was sitting in the end zone this weekend, I saw our defense completely abandon or get pushed out of the middle of the field on numerous occasions. Sellers only made us pay maybe twice for that, but there were several times he could have run forward for 20+ yards before he would have been touched, but chose to throw into coverage instead. Several more occasions when he rolled out he could have run for 10+ yards and chose not to. I think we're still extremely vulnerable to QB runs.

The OL is a disaster that needs to be addressed in the off-season. I'm thinking it is what it is for this year. Grubb just needs to understand that and quit calling all these long-developing pass plays when Ty has maybe 0.6 seconds to get rid of the ball before he is hit.

What’s weird is. For all of the faults. I don’t know any other team this year that could have ran this gauntlet we just got through. And honestly this last one was the only one where I felt we might lose during the game.

We never trailed Georgia
We trailed vandy for a quarter.
I don’t remember if we trailed after Missouri’s opening score.
We never trailed Tennessee.

I can’t explain, it I can’t understand it. I don’t think I have ever seen anything like it. This team is just really good at winning.

Yeah, it's weird. It looks like a really fundamentally unsound defense, especially in person, but for whatever reason it's sort of effective. The SC fans around me were screaming at Sellers to just run and I was sweating it out and glad he didn't. Maybe we've been fortunate our competition hasn't exploited those issues too much so far.
