2006 Cotton Bowl vs Texas Tech.Been to every bowl game since. The only game I ever attended at Legion Field was the B'Ham Stallions vs the Jacksonville Bulls in 1985.
1984 I believe...and my first game was an Iron Bowl in the late 70's..can't remember which year..was 77 or 78.Boston College at Legion Field. The game Kerry Goode blew his knee out. Can't remember the year off the top of my head.
Can't remember the year but it was late 50s. I think Bobby Skelton was QB. I was about 12 yrs old and saw Bama beat GA Tech by 3 pts on a last minute FG by one of the Sington Brothers. Can't remember if it was Fred or Dave.
Can anybody help me out with what year and which Sington brother would have kicked the game winner?
Indeed, the year was 1959 at Legion Field. However, it was Coach Bryant's second year at the helm of the Tide.Sure as heck wasn't a team coached by Ears...
So that would make it 1959...Coach Bryant's first team. Not sure on who kicked the FG though. We won 9-7.
Believe it was Dave who booted it, maybe. Next year in '60, Richard O'Dell kicked one to win it at game's end for us 16-15 in Atlanta. Can't remember the year but it was late 50s. Indeed, it was a Sington brother. I couldn't find a recap of the Tech game. However, based on recaps of other 1959 games, I'd say it was Fred Jr. Read recaps at link below. Then, decide for yourself.Believe it was Dave who booted it, maybe.
Well how about that? Me too. :BigA:1970, Bama vs LSU at Legion Field. Bama made a good effort, but lost 14-9.
I think LSU was pretty highly rated, Bama had already lost 3 games and was on the way to a second straight 6 win season, adding a tie in the Bluebonnet Bowl. More than a few people were questioning whether the game had passed Coach Bryant by.
The next year, however, would be the start of another golden era at Bama.
I was there as well. It was the first night game at BDS. :BigA:Mine was the 1979 game vs miami at Bryant Denny...Bama won 30-0..Steadman Shealy was qb ..Bama won national title that year to.I was 14 back then. What wonderful memories...:BigA:![]()
