Ok, I should have said that better. Not pull for them, but definately not waste your effort pulling against them. You're not any better than they are if you're wasting hate on them. Get the point?

It isn't about being petty.

It's about recruiting. The better they do, the harder it is for us to recruit well. It isn't as if it doesn't help us for them to do badly. My grandfather played football for Auburn, so I have no hate for them. But 10 times out of 10, if it hurts us for them to do well, I am going to pull against them.

You are 100% correct. I hope the barn has losses in the rest of their games. We need to recruit the best players from the state. I lived in Alabama for 21 years and now I live in the worst place possible. I love to see the state of Alabama excel; however, not if it is the barners.

then hope for Auburn to win a NC. I pull for whatever helps Bama the most. Auburn winning a title will not help Bama, therefore I do not wish to see it happen. I do not care what anyone thinks of our conference. Just tell them the real national champs were from the SEC last year.

I agree. You can't be a Bama fan and would like to see Aub. win it all. They would get the edge in recruiting in state.

I don't buy that. They aren't getting any edge. We lost Carnell to them after going to the Orange Bowl, didn't we? The kids are still going to come to Alabama regardless. We're still Alabama. We won't lose a thing in recruiting. Not a bit. Just making a point, nothing personal.

It is only permissable for an Alabama fan to root for Mooo U in three instances: 1) If a win by them will help us in the conference standings.
2) If they are playing Notre Dame
3) If they are playing Coach Pudge and the orange sissies.

It is not; however, permissable to gloat and show unbridled glee in the faces of Mooo U fans after a big loss. This is what they do and is, therefore beneath us. We must limit ourselves to a smug smile, secure in the fact that we are their athletic and intellectual superiors.

I think it's safe to say that as far as in-state recruiting goes, 95% or more of the recruits have their minds made up years before they are even on the recruiting radar. Kids are raised as Tide or Barn, and an athlete who goes against his upbringing in that regard is a rare one (the same can be said for the Vile fans in Alabama, such as Wes Brown at Athens this year). It's a moot point for them.

I thought I could pull for Auburn too. I even posted it on this web site. I was wrong. I will never pull for Auburn again. I couldn’t make myself do it. Last night I kept pulling for Mississippi to pull out the upset. I don’t care if Auburn is from this state.

I have to agree with bamainlouisville. I have been a die hard UA fan for 40 years. Through thick and thin I always want what is best for our beloved program. First, the only team that I hope never wins is UT. They are the anti Christ. However, I do want the Barn to be 10-0 when we play them. Fiirst, it makes us look great when we beat them and second, they are Alabama boys. Remember this, it looks so much better beating a 10-0 team than a 3-7 team. This does not mean I root for them, like them or are a turncoat. It means I want what is best for our team and our state. We need to handle our own business and quit worrying about the second best program in the country.

That is not really the case anymore. There are numerous examples of players going to a school they did not grow up pulling for as a kid. Cobra mentioned that we lost Carnell to Auburn after winning the Orange Bowl. We lost Carnell to Auburn, because we were about to go on probation (as well as a few other things that are fairly well known around Anniston and Gadsden). He has stated several times that he wanted to play for us had we not been in hot water at the time. As a matter of fact, I saw an interview from SEC media days in which he stated that he grew up a Bama fan, and still pulls for us every other game of the year. He would have been here today if it were not for the NCAA.

Most of today's recruits grew up when UF, FSU, Nebraska etc. were all the hot teams. There is not nearly as much loyalty as there once was. As a matter of fact, Wes Brown is starting to look around, according to Rivals. Recruits want to play for winners, and there is a whole new class born every year. These recruits need to see us as the dominant program and not the barn. It can be very inspiring to tell a recruit "Hey, let me take you down to the football complex and show you the national championship trophy we won last year. You could come here and help us do it again." It WILL hurt our recruiting if they win a title.

I ONLY pull for Auburn if it helps us, and that's more than most of their fans do for us. There is no way them winning a title will help us.

Sorry but if the barners teeth were on fire I wouldn't do you know what to put the fire out. I hate the barners with a passion. As my grandfather used to say, none are so blind as those who will not see. RTR.

I also live out of Alabama, left shortly after graduation from BAMA, been gone 25 years or so. The way I feel, the SEC was part of the crew that threw us to the wolves. Tubberears, like a 5 year-old brat, told on Price just to keep BAMA in turmoil and down. So, if BAMA ant there (at the top) then to H#@l with all the rest and the conference. A majority of the schools in the conference have done all they can to keep BAMA down and because of that I will NEVER pull for allbutt or tenn or whom ever.

I have been an Auburn fan my whole life. Almost everyone in my family graduated or attended AU.

All i have ever heard was how Bama fans expressed their hatred for Auburn. I dont really feel that way about Bama. I would like the school to represent our state and the SEC to their very best.

I have found that most fans on both sides that "hate" the school from the other side of the state typically dont have any affiliation with that university other than being a fan, usually a fair-weathered fan...Hating the coach one week, loving him the next...downing the players and with the same tongue lifting them up the next week.

Sorry for taking only parts of your quote, but these are the only ones I have a rebuttal for.

First, a kid going to one school or the other for NCAA sanctions seems irrelevant. I don't know the story about Carnell around Anniston/Gadsden (sounds juicy...please feel free to tenlighten me!!! ;) ), but I think an in-state recruit swayed by that is the exception.

Second, national championships...12 or 1, which has the greatest tradition? An in-state recruit has already made his mind up long before any Barn championship (again, there are exceptions). I think the possibility of playing on a resurgent Tide team is powerful stuff.

Living out of state huh? You need to come back home, live 30 miles away from Auburn (like me) and then you would change your tune. I don't care if Auburn lost the NC game or any game to a sunbelt team or a gateway team!Conference pride, state pride yeah right.....

May Auburn get the h@*ll beat from them from head to toe by any and all!

I don't care if they were on a 60+ game Columbialike losing streak, being close to Auburn it looks good beating them if they are 10-0 team or an 0-10 team..... May they lose in every game they attempt, hell I hope they lose their chess match today against UTC!!!
