We're going from "if Trump was in there, Biden would have released it" to "the Democrats had all that time to doctor the files!" Except the Attorney General told all of us that the files were on her desk, so what were the Democrats doing in her office? Then she said there were none - and then she said Trump was in it.
Maybe Trump should have taken the Epstein Files to Mar-a-Lago and left the classified ones where they belonged.

I have no doubt they will excuse Trump's involvement with Epstein. I know some people care deeply about this. The question is always, do enough people care, do the right people care, OR will back room politics once again bury the issue?
I'm telling you - if I'm a Democratic consultant, I'm putting ten second ads on the air right now with Trump actually saying that he's going to release the Epstein files and his other quotes - along with, "What are you waiting for, Don?"

A handful, sure. It's mighty easy to bloviate in front of the cameras when you know they aren't actually going to be released. When this actually gets voted on, I will be mighty curious how many people change their tunes.

And given her drama queen persona, I suspect almost everything about her life is a lie or an exaggeration. I'm certainly capable of empathy, and I know full well rape/sexual assault is grossly under-reported, but the idea that she would suddenly turn (as she did yesterday) in defense of the accused rapist doesn't line up with reality UNLESS........Trump sexually assaulted her and this is a version of Stockholm Syndrome.
Folks, I might be wrong about everything I just typed. But I have no regard at all for so-called victims of rape/sexual assault who DEFEND RAPISTS/SEXUAL ASSAULTERS, either.
While your scenario is possible, I simply don't find it the least bit probable. Occam's Razor would suggest that Mace figured out the same thing I did: E. Jean Carroll is completely full of **** and always has been. And yes, a lot of people say they buy her story, but I don't believe them, either. Pretending to believe something this preposterous is a disservice to men as a whole because encouraging women to lie about rape is a behavior that should not be encouraged, regardless of who you're trying to keep out of the White House. I stand firmly in the camp that states if a woman lies about rape, she should be criminally sentenced to the same number of years in prison that an actual rapist would get.

If the question is whether there’s an actual evidence-based case that Carroll lied, the answer is no. People can speculate, but nothing in the record points to fabrication. Two juries found her credible, and if Trump’s lawyers had anything that showed otherwise, they would have used it. Most of the “she’s lying” arguments come from politics or misunderstandings about trauma, not from facts. If there is real evidence that Carroll made the whole thing up, I'm open to hearing it.
Occam's razor tells me there's one reason only that Donald Trump doesn't release files he lied and said he would - because he knows his name (or worse) is in there.
There’s just one wrench in those gears and you’ve alluded to it yourself: there have been opportunities aplenty to expose that and no one seems to have wanted to do it. Why?

BIDEN could not have released the files without compromising the Maxwell trial, they were sealed by a judge until January 2024. But the key point - that everyone keeps pretending they don't understand - is that BIDEN WASN'T THE ONE WHO PROMISED TO RELEASE THE FILES AS A THREAT. That was Donald Trump.
And Donald Trump of all people knows whether he had sex with underage girls and if Epstein was involved.
I actually believe - as a number of folks here have said - there's a whole lot more to this than Trump. But Trump knew that before he began playing the, "ooh boy, look at the secret I know that you don't." And then his AG doubled down on this with "ooh boy, this big secret thing is on my desk."
Like hell I am and I resent the implication. The "why" question was purely rhetorical because despite their posturing, Dems don't want that information to come out, either.
No kidding? And here I sit remembering quite well how I pointed this out a year ago, expecting him to demand the FBI/DOJ release that information. He said he would and here we are, still waiting. I have criticized the president many times this year and I have given my theories on why Trump has done an about-face on this campaign promise. If anything, my hypotheses answer the question on why the files weren't used to destroy Trump after the previous administration did everything in its power to do that very thing.
Agreed. There is no way in hell he would have even evoked Epstein's name if he thought for a second there was any evidence there that could ruin him.
Also agreed. I don't know what the hell Bondi was thinking, but she is very bad at politics. It is very possible that those files are radioactive because they could expose royalty, people in the donor class, intelligence agents (both American and Israeli), and God only knows who or what else. It's obvious to me that Trump likely knew very little about those files and that is why he promptly stepped in it when he brought them up. He knew his supporters wanted to know about them, but he clearly should have done his homework first.
In any case, whatever does get released (if anything) will be heavily redacted and the rest classified on the grounds of "national security." The federal government has been using that tired old chestnut for a long time now.
