For those worried about more players being involved because someone on Al.com, who knows a guy who knows a guy, said several players were involved...

@AlexS_ESPN

Filed to http://ESPN.com : @TuscaloosaNews report on Clinton-Dix receiving loan confirmed, source says he was lone player involved.
I've heard the other three names floated have been cleared. Without something else, I believe it's probably only Dix at this point. We must be paying assistant strength coaches too much...

Dee needs to stay off Twitter.

But it does make me wonder: how does this loan transaction get to Coach's ears? The loan NEVER should have happened....but if you read between the lines....just stop talking, Dee

Anyone know why this is coming out now? Seems weird timing if it happened this summer and has been paid back already.

Re: Assistant Strength/Conditioning Coach Placed on Leave

We say this again and again, but we truly have the best compliance staff anywhere.
This is very true. Other schools hide, deny and cover up problems...Bama's compliance office confronts them head-on. It will not be the storyline in this story...but yet again...Bama handles things the proper way. We have a winning football team and an entire athletic department that does things right. Compare this to the way things were done the last few years at....well lets just say "many" schools.

Re: Assistant Strength/Conditioning Coach Placed on Leave

Sometimes the old saying of "we've got to make an example of someone" is true. Completely floored that one of our own coaches would do this especially after all the work compliance does educating every single person in the organization about NCAA rules. I don't care who else does it or doesn't doing it - these are the rules until they are changed. I am not one of those that is relieved by the facts coming out now, but instead very disappointed that 2 people made a selfish decision that could do serious damage to the entire program.
That's my rant, but I am sure Coach Saban will handle this swiftly and appropriately. Geeze, let's just play some football.

Re: Assistant Strength/Conditioning Coach Placed on Leave

Maybe it's just me, but if I was a HC and even had a whiff that one of my assistant coaches had ties to an agent, I couldn't run him off fast enough. I just can't believe this is commonplace, or even tolerated, anywhere.
OK, maybe you went to school with a guy who became an agent, and you remained friends; even then, you are swimming in shark-infested waters. Any other scenario other than a family member is just friggin insane.
I'd think that would severely limit your hiring pool. "Ties to an agent" is a rather ambiguous term. For all we know this guy met an agent once. I'd be willing to bet there aren't many coaches in CFB who don't at least know some agents. Let's not forget as you work your way up the food chain, you're eventually going to need to hire one yourself.

I read somewhere that he is close to someone who is close to an agent - in other words, there is no direct agent relationship. If that is the case, the whole "agent" thing begins to look a little contrived. I bet that most of us know someone who knows an agent.

Re: Assistant Strength/Conditioning Coach Placed on Leave

I agree, but these players can't know every detail of NCAA compliance - that list of rules is long and difficult to understand. If a coach offers to loan him money, with a real requirement of repayment, he could easily assume that this is within the rules. Of course, you wish he had asked another coach to be sure.
I'm not buying this. Even I know it's not ok to loan a player money under any circumstances. And, by the way, everyone is coming down hard on the coach, but HaHa should have known better than to ask, and/or accept the funds.

Mr. Harris is probably out of a job and Clinton-Dix is probably out for 3-5 games depending on the NCAA's discretion and opinion of our compliance office's job on this matter.

Yeah, I'd be stunned if there was a player on the team who honestly didn't know that taking a loan from a staffer was against the rules.

Okay, but I didn't know. Of course, it is not my business to know, but I don't make assumptions that things that I don't know are widely known by others.
