Hand Surgery for Mateer

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma head football coach Brent Venables announced Tuesday that quarterback John Mateer will undergo surgery Wednesday to address a right-hand injury he sustained in Saturday's win over Auburn.

Venables said the expectation is that Mateer will return to action sometime this season.

Their backup is perfectly capable of winning 3 of those games. OU has a bye next week as well.
Unless you have intimate knowledge of OU's backup quarterback and how he runs the offense, you're just throwing crap up against the wall hoping it sticks. Mateer completely changed the outlook of OU's season. Does the backup quarterback do that for them? I doubt it...

Venables said yesterday he would be out a month or longer, hence the 4 to 6 weeks prediction.
We all know everyone's recovery timeline is different and to play back at 100% is not always guarantee.
Just when they started to get things back right too...

That's a shame. Could derail his Heisman campaign.
No worries, Mateer is the media darling at the moment. He can missed 4 games and still win it as long as he's undefeated as a starter. Heck, his numbers don't have to be elite either, just don't lose. ESPN is his biggest fan and as long a they keeping pushing the narrative, he should be fine.
