I believe in Gene Chizik...and love him - of course I am an Alabama alumnus who is still laughing at the demolition of the Iron Bowl and the carnage around the barn football program - but still, good job, barn.

I'm not convinced he's even a great DC. I believe he appeared that way at allbarn and UT because of the talent he had to work with, but when he had Iowa State talent to work with, not so much. And remember, at ISU he was in the notoriously weak Big12 North and didn't play any of the big 3 from the Big12 South. I'd give him good or maybe even very good, but not great.

2008 National Ranking

Rushing Defense 95
Pass Efficiency Defense 117
Total Defense 111
Scoring Defense T-110
Pass Defense 115

In his two years the defense actually fell to rock bottom at ISU. The numbers are not far from the very bottom of the heap. The defense gave up 35.8 points a game while the offense only average 25.2.

I would grade him an average to good. But as Tommy stated he looks better with talent. Not sold on his head coaching ability.

By not playing the Big 3 from the Big 12 South if might of saved ISU from the cellar in ranking numbers.

The problem is going to be can the guy catch up on the recruiting trail? It's not like coaching alone can make up for it because it's been proven Alabama and staff doesn't have a problem developing the talent they bring in. Rumor has it that Turner Gill and several others "turned down" the Auburn job and I suspect this was part of the equation when deciding to turn down the job.

Right now Alabama is on a recruiting rampage that no one thought even Saban would accomplish this early. Look what the 2008 class has already done, several from the 07 class are developing into star players and the 09 class appears to be headed for a top five finish. Many thought Alabama had stumbled to depths that though it would recover, would not recover to the point of what it appears it has. I've more rival fans come up to me after the SECG and basically say " You SOB's, looks like y'all have returned. I never thought it would happen." Chizik has a rough road to hoe.
Saban is honestly a recruiting genious in my book, the man is smart, hands down.

I do honestly think Chizik is an ok hire on the behalf of the University of Auburn, he was their defensive coordinator when they went undefeated. It doesn't matter to me though, no matter who their coach is on the sidelines I'll always know ours is smarter and 10x better as long as we have Saban.

I approve of the Chizik hire too. It looks like this hire will set the Auburn program back 10 years. They had already dug a hole for themselves on the recruiting front and they compounded it by hiring Tony Franklin and scrapping the offense midseason.

Bama fans know all too well that great assistant coaches don't make good head coaches. If Chizik couldn't get it done at ISU in the weak Big 12 North, he definitely won't get it done at Auburn.

You fire a guy who won 85 games over a 10 yr period, an SEC Championship and was 7-3 against your biggest rival for a guy that's 5-19 as a head coach. It must suck to be an allbarn tiger.

I approve that you approved Hersteit's approval of Chizik's hiring. Hey, if he doesn't work out this year Charlie Weis will need some work in 2010.

It's Chizik...I'm laughing!!

Let me start this rant by saying: "YOU GOT CHIZIK, WE DON'T!"

Even in our darkest times, I do not recall such rebellion and revolt as is being displayed on the radio & barn forums. It's Great. I can only compare this to Joab Thomas giving Bill Curry the position when Bobby Bowden had been interviewed and had already made arrangements to leave FSU for his dream job.

LOOK!!! The barn is relegated back to their "Tulane" status as the second rate program they are. They were never going to get Butch Davis, Steve Spurrier, Houston Nutt, Jim Grobe, etc. For that matter, they had to go to the very bottom of the "Ty Willingham/Charlie Weis" list to find this name, and it was added in almost illegible print (probably by Pat Dye about a pint in.) But now they have hired, yes, you got it - Gene Chizik. Chill bumps - NOT!!!! barners are in the corner puking; I'm only puking because I can't quit laughing. (Mike, still got those cigars we can smoke in honor of our season and now the hiring of, yes, Gene Chizik.)

I read an article from an Iowa State newspaper and the reporter wrote a SCATHING aritle about how inept Chizik was. Offense was offensive, defense got worse from year one to year two. This guy was 5-19 over his tenure. They were 0-8 this year in the Big 12 and did not play Oklahoma, Texas, or Texas Tech. What does this mean, you fine people ask? It means he went 0-8 against teams about the caliber of Arkansas, Carolina, or Croom State (sorry, Mullen State).

Is is not obvious that they had no plan whatsoever when they fired Tubbs? They figured they would just go out and bring in a big name because of who they are. You did - you brought in a coach worthy of who you are. Even having to go the Weis list, why didn't they hire Turner Gill - at least somewhat of a proven commodity bringing Buffalo(???) back from the depths?

Scarbinsky wrote an article yesterday mentioning he asked several other SEC assistants about Chizik being hired. One laughed out loud, another reaction was stunned silence, and another said that he was a good coach, but Saban would eat him for breakfast. (Memo to Gene - Saban likes his eggs overeasy and his whiskey neat....)

I've been posting this all year.....They know, they know. That's going to be replaced by.....They really know, they really know.

Let me end this rant by saying: "WE GOT SABAN, YOU DON'T!!" The TIDE Cometh......Be afraid, be very afraid!

36-0 - GET USED TO IT. MORE BEAT-DOWNS ARE COMING!

That is all.....

Later,

bama_d

PS
We gave you two points, the score was really 38-0, Aight!!!

You guys are insane, he's the greatest coach on the face of the planet and I'm glad a great program, such as The Polytechnic Institute was able to pick him up. He's a perfect fit and I hope he sticks around for a long, long time!
