Hmm... Do we now have a QB controversy?

After 3 Starts:

Ty Simpson - 64 of 89 (71.9%)(18th NCAA) for 862 Yards Passing (18th NCAA) (YPA 9.7) (12th NCAA) and 9 TDs (5th NCAA Tie) 0 INTs (1st NCAA Tie) Rating 186.63 (8th NCAA)

Former Bama Backups:

Dylan Lonergan - 90 of 123 (73.2%)(11th NCAA) for 991 Yards Passing (4th NCAA) (YPA 8.1) (51st NCAA) and 9 TDs (5th NCAA Tie) and 1 INT (29th NCAA Tie) Rating 163.37 (27th NCAA)

Eli Holstein - 58 of 88 (65.9%) (52nd NCAA) for 822 Yards Passing (24th NCAA) and 9 TD's (NCAA 5th Tie) and 3 INTs (100th NCAA) Rating (171.30) (21st NCAA)

There is no controversy at QB for Bama in 2025 and of these former Backups Ty is off to the best start.

Lonergan is playing really well though some of his stats edge Ty based on volume. You give Ty 34 more attempts to match Lonergan and Ty leads everything but Comp%

Holstein is a Gamer and plays very hard. I've seen him carry Pitt on his back in several games last year and this year.

I hope all three continue to have success.

My response to the OP question:

Absolutely NOT!!!
Ty only had a 63.1% completion in the Georgia game. But a closer look shows 0 ints and 0 sacks. And still managed a QBR of 90.1. Gunner Stockton only had a 78.6 QBR. Ty showed great poise, and was in control of the offense in a major hostile stadium environment. He's one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC, if not in all of CFB. And the talking sports heads have noticed.

The media narrative on Ty has been a prime example of why I have no more faith in talking heads or ink-stained wretches that I do politicians. Actually, they have a lot in common. Wet their finger, put it in the air and go with the prevailing wind. Media generally do have a greater facility with the English language. But they think that a fundamentally unsound argument somehow gains credibility if it's well-articulated.

Ty and Arch Manning had similar questions going into the season. Those questions revolved around a general lack of experience, especially in big games, and most especially in big games on the road. Secondarily, there were questions around why neither could beat out a clearly flawed starter the year before -- Quinn Ewers at UTw and Jalen Milroe in Tuscaloosa.

Yet the talking heads anointed Manning as the savior of college football, with no need to play the season for the Heisman or the CFB championship. Save the time and trouble and give him both now. Meanwhile giving Ty a condescending pat on the head, whispering out of the side of their mouths, "Stay in your lane, kid."

Then came the debacle in Tallahassee. That was the fault of a lot of coaches and players. None of them were named Ty Simpson. Ty was the only reason we were even in the game at all. Yet the media pointed and said, "See? Simpson's just not all that. Maybe Alabama needs to kick him to the bench and go with the next savior Keelon Russell -- he looked great in about 6 plays against a ULM team already trailing by 60."

Then came the head-scratching after Golden Boy Arch Manning yakked up hairballs in two consecutive games and hasn't really set the woods on fire otherwise.

Meanwhile, Ty Simpson did set the woods on fire, admittedly against soft competition. But look at those numbers. It's hard to do what he did to ULM and Wisky in practice against air. And it would have been even better if not for several perfect throws being dropped by WRs.

Still there were glute-covering whispers around him..."He ran up good numbers against ULM and Wisconsin....but the rookie will never do that against big bad Georgia in a deafening Sanford Stadium."

Well, surprise, surprise, surprise! Now he did. Not quite as good as against ULM and Wisky, but he still had a QBR over 90, on the road, in a hostile environment, against a Top 5 team. And if not for a drop and other sub-par effort by his star WR, the numbers would have been even better. He was responsible for all three of Alabama's TDs, throwing for two and running for the other.

So what are the talking heads doing now? Acting all gobsmacked that the kid they scoffed at a month ago is making them look like Manning sycophants. Looking at each other and saying, "Where did he come from?" And trying to distract the audience from their preseason slobbering worship of Manning.

Did I mention that I don't trust media?

I won’t defend the media but plenty enough of Bama fans were saying this crap too.

A few people have dug their heels in and refuse to admit they were wrong about the kid and that at worst he’s Very VERY Good.

I think it’s even an insult to compare him to Coker.

He’s got the talent and poise to get his name into the Upper Tier of Bama QBs

Plus that post game interview shows how much that Kid LOVES Alabama.

He’s done everything right and had a lot done wrong to him.

I don’t understand why he doesn’t have overwhelming support from his own fanbase.

But whatever Ty is the GUY 1000000%

I love this Dude. One of my favorite Bama players ever.

I did hear, I think, Heibstreet say that no other QB in college football is making the throws Ty is.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen any of this negativity towards Ty that you guys keep bringing up. And I haven’t seen anyone seriously call for Russell, just some tongue in cheek jokes during the ULM game.

Granted, I only read TideFans and am not on any other bama sites. But I haven’t seen it on FB or had friends or family talk to me about it or anything. They aren’t joking about it on SEC shorts or other fan productions that have a good finger on the pulse of college and bama football. Unlike the fitness of some of our coaches. So I don’t think this is a serious or big thing at all.

As an aside, I loved Coker. I think Simpson can be even better but if he plays like Coker I will be very happy.

It’s been here too.

Right after the FSU game it was the worst.

Even after his perfect game in week 2 there were doubts and people wanting specific packages for QB3

Some hold outs wanted to see the UGA game before they were sold.

Well??

Sold??

It was there. I got one saved on Facebook that was horrible. A thug pointing a gun at the tv but aimed right at Ty Simpson head on the screen saying not safe tidefans words. Really deplorable.

I figured your post was tongue in cheek, but some posters thought it was a serious post and doubled down saying there was and Ty needed to be benched.

I am one of the few posters on here not surprised at all by Ty's play this year.

As an aside. Jalen Hurts getting benched and replaced by Tua in 2018 was probably the best thing that ever happened to him. He has become such a good QB in the NFL and it all started that season.
That’s True.

2024 was basically Ty being in the Tua spot in 2017 but never getting that 2nd half in the NCG opportunity when he should have vs (Tenn, OU, Mich)

The Kid still didn’t jump into the portal and I promise you Tua was gone if he didn’t get that shot.

Ty has been DEALING like this behind the scenes in Practice just like Tua was in 2017.

It’s super frustrating to see him not be 100% embraced.

I agree that Tua would have left if he had never gotten the chance to play in the second half of the NCG, I think Tua and Ty's situations are a little different, in that Ty didn't have the support of the players to start over JM, whereas Tua did, especially with the receivers.

I was highly impressed with Ty's mental capabilities. He ran that offense perfectly. Tons of motion and formation changes. Never once looked confused. Extremely impressive performance. I'll also give some love to the O-line. Much better performance than what we have seen recently.

That’s partially true depending on the time frame.

#4 had enough support and benefit of the doubt going into the season in ‘24.

But when the wheels came off starting with Tenn you could visibly see how upset the WRs were getting and it continued vs OU and Mich.

Very similar to how the WRs reacted around the Miss St game in 2017.

They wanted the switch to Tua

Late last year players wanted the switch to Ty.
