Basically, anytime a team lined up against us on 4th and 1 or 3rd and 2, or any simliar situation this year, I never expected us to win that battle. Heck, even ULM beat us on the line of scrimage in plays like that. I don't expect Cody to come in and be an every down kind of DT. But I do expect him to come in and play right away on plays like that where we KNOW a run up the gut or a QB sneak is coming. Just having 400 lbs of leverage will help us push those scrums in the opposite directions. More often than not, it will be like having an extra defensive lineman in stopping those short plays. This is why I believe we went after this guy. He will help out tremendously on plays like this, he's no pass rusher, that's for sure! :D

I don't believe that Coach Saban would sign any projects or guys that can't help pretty quickly, especially a JC guy. Make no mistake, Cody will be signed because the expectation will be that he will either start OR at the very least, be in on goal line or short yardage plays.

The kid is a run stopper deluxe. Just because he's huge doesn't mean that he's not strong enough to play in the SEC. I'm sure that Coach Saban did his homework with this guy, how much he benches, squats, his work out habits, etc.

Dropping 30 lbs while adding muscle, over a six month period, should be no problem for a guy his size. I think that we will see him come in at around 365 this fall. If he does he will be a serious force against the run. If he doesn't CNS will have him running laps until he drops.

I betcha this guy core strength is not up to SEC snuff yet. He's just a big body right now who needs to be honed into big bodied beast.
Can coaches give recruits "suggested" training plans or materials before enrollment? What about playbooks?

If this kid could start in our S&C program remotely even at NSD he'd certainly be ready to go on August 30th.

I hope he does turn out to use his great potential. He seems like he could be exactly what we need at Nose Tackle...

Good point. I really don't see Saban signing a JC guy unless he can contribute immediately. I suppose there is remote possibility that he could be redshirted but JC guys are almost always signed as a quick fix.

Maybe, but it depends on how much he has to lose as simultaneously losing fat and building muscle is almost impossible, even with chemical assistance.

The standard approach is to lose the fat as quickly as possible while trying to maintain as much lean body mass as possible with a below maintenance caloric diet made of mostly protein, good fats and minimal carbs only around strength workouts.

After the desired fat level is obtained then he would switch over to a normal workout and diet routine. If he doesn't have massive amounts of fat to lose, six months will probably be sufficient.

That is true guys. I forget that he's a JUCO. His body is probably further developed than most 17-18 year-olds. I do hope that Saban has gave him the "six-month plan" to get him slimmed just a tad. 395 pounds ain't safe for anybody.

What ifsss????????? What if this. He looks in the mirror and says "I COULD BE A STAR AT ALABAMA. One of the most respected coaches in the country believes in me. Their fan base is looking for the next Wallace Gillberry hero story, and in three years, if I do it right, the NFL will make me a multimillionaire". His rumored weight now is 370ish. 15lbs lighter and he's within reasonable reporting weight. A willingness to learn and a gutter-fighter nasty attitude and he's the next Refrigerator!!!!! Stocked of course!

Yeah, he is not a project if he's a JC player on this level. Even if he's just situational, like goal line or short situations. But I think people are overreacting to his weight. We just need to get him in shape, plain and simple and that means the ability to stay on the field and contribute well. And there are huge men in the NFL on the DL making pro bowls. Some people can just handle the weight and still play hard and effectively. Im sure the S&C program will get him where he needs to be. Even if he just loses 20lbs and adds a bit of quickness while getting in even better conditioning.
