I guess that will end the black jersey for the dawgs.

Lighten up, guys.

The black jerseys are a gimmick, but they're fun and harmless. I don't see anything disrespectful about them. If anything, they show respect to the opponent by highlighting the "big game" status of the opponent.

It's a neat, creative idea that the fans have fun with and gets the crowd into the game. Remember, all traditions were new at one point.

I don't get where all the hate for Richt is coming from. I listened to the UGA postgame show on XM and he was a very gracious loser.
I don't hate Richt, but it is just a gimmick/stunt and I think it was stupid on his part. In a game this big, there is too much risk on it backfiring, which it did. It allowed the Alabama coaches to say all week "hey they are worrying about their wardrobe, let's focus on kicking their _____". Now, the black jerseys are probably history. I wouldn't wear them again if I was UGA's coach. Maybe next time they can try wearing white at home like LSU.

Try selling a blackout jersey game at BDS and see how neat and creative our fans think it is
I bet Nick could tell the fans to dress in pink tutus and wear burlap underwear and they would break their necks to do it along with saying what a great idea it is. ;)

Well, why not compare it to the recent trend toward houndtooth patterned merchandise instead? That was new and different, and our fans have responded pretty positively to that.

The black jerseys backfired this time, but they worked pretty well against the Barn last year. They're a risk, but it doesn't add to the risks you face in any emotional matchup between top 10 teams in any meaningful way. We didn't need UGA wearing these jerseys to fire us up. "Getting up" for a game is about coaching and team discipline, not the stupid little trivia that we fans dissect on message boards. Do y'all really think that UGA was taking it easy in practice until they heard Coach Cochran's comments, for example?

Anyone who is offended by the black jerseys probably finds something to be offended about every week.

I'm not offended by the black jerseys, I just think it's going once too often to the well. Personally, I wouldn't mind all our home jerseys having the houndstooth pattern around the collar. Hey, whatever they want to do between the hedges is fine with me, they can wear those black jerseys the next time the come to BDS as far as I'm concerned :)

Maybe the score would've been 61-10 without the black jerseys?!?!

Ha ha. Well said. I realize that Mark Richt is a football coach, a human being and was very upset, but at the halftime interview it was the first time I had ever heard him curse. Not a big deal at all and I don't want to make it a big deal but it just jumped out at me.

Excellent post. Sums it all up.

To me, UGA is better than resorting to going to a gimmick in a big game. Instead of focusing on what you're wearing, focus on doing your job on the field.

Anybody hear Stallings on Finebaum last Friday? He laughed at the idea of having a gimmick jersey for the game.

That's exactly what it is and we should take it as a compliment.
Exactly. Anybody who was either offended or insulted by the Dawgs wearing the black jersies are pretty much taking it too personally. It was designed to fired up the Dawgs fans and players....nothing more/nothing less. Gimmicky, sure, has it work before? Ask Hawaii and Auburn.

Holy cow, folks, don't you get it?
The wearing of the black was the ultimate compliment to Alabama!
It was much like the MDB's playing that excerpt from Les Miserables. Georgia players coaches and fans realized:
1) The Tide has turned
2) It would take something extraordinary to win
3) When the going is the toughest, one looks for symbols around which to rally.
In response to the speech by Pope Urban II, it was the knight's tearing the white cloth into strips with which to make the cross they put on their chest before running off to free the holy land from the Muslims. To Georgia, it was the "wearing of the black." And it worked about as well as the cross did for the crusaders. Especially for the first crusade that never made it past southern Germany.

Let's be proud that Alabama evokes that kind of response from a team voted preseason number one.

I think they were excited about the game and wanted to show it. What they didn't get about it was that you can get too emotionally jacked up about it and it results in poor performance.
Knowshon Moreno was jacked up for this game and I almost wondered if his was on something.

I don't think UGA will wear them for a while. If you're a highly ranked team with national championship aspirations and you need a gimmick to get up for a Top 10 team coming to your house to play, then you have issues.

In defense of the seniors who talked CMR into wearing the black unis, they weren't living when Bama was a dominant team that ruled the SEC.

I agree, I think the black jersey thing came off as gimmicky. I thought that before the game and I still do.
