Since ESPN reads the TideFans forum, I like to take opportunity to apologize for our football game getting in the way of their fluff piece.

Really, with two minutes left in the game and us driving for the winning touchdown and they decide to do a split screen with the soccer player. You can't convince me that the guy producing the game actually likes college football.

And for chalk this thread up to more Bama fans ranting against ESPN. I was watching the game with two Michigan fans and they were annoyed as well.

Are you guys saying you don't like to hear some random chick run her mouth about some random crap while your team is tied in the fourth quarter?

Why didn't they interview Steely Dan?

At least they said we're winners.

Donald Trump.....former British Prime Minister Tony Blair....a surviving relative of Don Ho.....I am sure they all have opinions on The Tide just as insightful as the soccer babe.

As Bodhi said, they were pumping their coverage of the Women's World Cup. They didn't care a whit whether or not she had ever watched a FB game, much less about her support for one team or the other.

Any college football fan would know that a person cannot be a fan of Alabama and pull for Auburn when the two meet. It was a shameless plug. It was so typical of ESPN...

Their plug for soccer only made me hate soccer even more than I already did. I wanted to vomit every time they put her on. I don't watch football to hear about baseball, basketball, golf, hockey, tennis, and I sure as Hell don't watch football to hear about women's soccer. Give me a break. ESPN is complete garbage, and it's no coincidence SportsCenter has been getting lower ratings year after year because they do the same garbage during that show.

It was a obvious plug, but I was happy to know there was a 'Bama fan on the USA team. I can't say anything bad about her, she might not be a massive 'Bama fan but she is one and she does have a day job that might keep her fairly busy...

I hope they beat Nigeria, I almost never watch soccer but I still want the USA to do well, especially after having lived outside of America for a little while.

Complete fluff. If they wanted an interview, they could have done it during a different time.
On a good note, I'm glad they had Snake talk about the players.

That being said, I tune in for a game, not an interview, not to watch the fans while a game is on, and not to have it cut in after the snap.
But - it's better than being on payper view.

She will be pulling for GA against us this week, and for Auburn when we meet them. Her words. Still think that she is a Bama fan?

Liking our tradition is one thing. I am happy that she does. But she is not a Bama fan. And I really couldn't care less about soccer...

I was at the game so even after reading all of these posts, I still don't have a good idea about what this is all about. Would someone mind posting a short summary about this "soccer" issue? Thanks.

The Women's national team is in China for their World Cup. One of the chicks, according the the game announcers, is supposedly a "big Alabama fan", so they talked with her periodically during the game. However, the only connection she has to the Crimson Tide is that she was born in Alabama. She went to college at North Carolina (top women's soccer program), her parents went to Florida and Georgia; her sister went to Auburn. She even said she roots for those three schools over Alabama.

Typical effort by journalists/media types. They either didn't do their homework about the connection between the soccer chick and Alabama football, or ESPN was lying about this chick's allegience/interest in the Crimson Tide. (Incompetent or a liar? Sounds like virtually every politician.) Either way they just wanted to cross-promote their programming of the Women's World Cup. It was BS. If you're a fan of women's soccer, you'll watch the matches. If not, you won't be swayed by these lame interviews. They talked over several plays, and even did a split screen for a while. It was annoying and pointless from a football perspective.

Yeah, I 'm a big soccer fan and I kept saying, why are they talking to Kat about Bama football, she went to UNC?! It was a very bizzare moment in sports broadcasting for sure.:pDT_vis:

If they wanted to plug the soccer game they should have done it during timeouts, not while plays were underway using split screen...etc...

No way she is a Bama fan as they called her. No Bama fan pulls for FL GA and AUB when Bama plays them.

She was annoying, but I was much more annoyed with the play by play guy continually talking about Bryant. They put the graphic up and he commented that he didn't understand why we ran Curry off and then he said something like, "Stallings even won a NC and that still wasn't enough..." What, are you crazy? Do you even know a thing about Alabama football?

I was ROFLMAO just at the thread title. I played soccer for 16 years and probably should have played in college, and that annoyed the heck out of me. I had to hit mute both times...geeez!
