This is by a Russelville native, from a conversation with Calloway's foster dad:

1) coach chizik never called the parents...One day he showed up at school and talked to Brent. UA coaches called and gave 3 days notice before a visit...no barging in without the parents' knowledge

2)Trooper Taylor would call on Wed Night, Sun morning, and Sunday night to talk to Brent...conveniently when Peaches was working at church. (wondering how that meshes with the God thing)

3) chizik told Brent that Saban really didn't want to play him, but he was just trying to get him so he could ride Alabama's bench and keep him away from other teams (because we have scholarships to throw at people we never intend to play)

4) chizik told brent that Saban was going to be the next HC for the Titans and leave Alabama in the dust.

Peaches made Brent tell the UA coaching staff all of the things that had been told to him. Saban told Brent he loves coaching at the college level, btdt (been there done that) with the pros. Saban told Calloway if he were going to coach at the pros he could have done it with the Cowboys (apparently he was offered and declined).

I've heard some things about Calloway...just basic cocky kid stuff. Honestly with his shaky home situation (biological parents not taking care of him) I can see how he might become a little inflated for having people lavish so much attention on him. Hopefully Saban can help with that. You can also see how the family thing was enticing for the kid but luckily common sense won out in the end. Honestly I don't care what they say about Peaches...how come it's ok for Lattimore's mama & Clowney's mama?? God forbid a MAN take an interest in his son (esp. when he is wanting to steer him away from what he considers shady people).

Interesting stuff, Earle. Can't say I'm surprised. I think if I were a recruit being fed the Saban-to-NFL line by Chizik, my first question would be, "Tell me again why no pro teams seem interested in you?"

Stuff like this just makes me want to see them come crashing down even harder. Chizik's holier than thou, God is on our side attitude makes me want to barf when I think about just what a sleazeball he is.

This is not surprising as Chizik was familiar with the API tactic of massive disinformation before he was named head coach.
It really speaks volumes when your sales pitch is based on negative falsehoods regarding your rival rather than the positives of your own program. Apparently those (positives) are so few and far between that GC is left no alternative.

Very interesting. I've been wondering what the Auburnites were telling these young men. Consider that this year we had three young men - Region, Calloway, and Cyrus - all Bama leans, suddenly jump to Auburn during the recruiting process. Has to be more than coincidence.

The best thing Bama can do is continue to recruit by selling Alabama; don't buy into Auburn's negative recruiting tactics.

Wouldn't hurt if Auburn's recruiting tactics received some media attention though...

I mentioned elsewhere that I really hoped that Saban could gain some insight into what happened this recruiting cycle with the barn coming in so late on many commits and heavy leans to Bama. They really threw a wrench in the works. Very interesting.

This is the only comment that I don't fully understand. Are you referring to what the barn is saying about his parents steering him back toward us?

Auburn people think it hypocritical of us to criticize the Newtons when CK and BC had parents obviously concerned over their decision for Auburn. They overlook the fact that no one really opposed Cecil being involved in Cam's decision, other than it seemed a touch weird given that Cam was two years out of high school. The real issue was the PFP, not the parent involvement.

I dislike Chizik more each day. I honestly don't understand how the negative stuff works...if a prospect has any sense, he can research the issues for himself. It's common sense, but I personally wouldn't trust ANY coach that was recruiting me (or salesman trying to sell me something), but would listen to what they say, research it, and see who is more truthful. If a coach is shown to be dishonest, I'd sever all contact with that school.

Cheeshick and his horde can't sell positives about the Barn, because there are not any. So, they try and sell negatives about other programs, even if they have to make then up. That was Pat Dye's tactic too. It will never change over there. You can dress up pond scum all pretty, but at the end of the day, you still have pond scum.

I wish that this stuff could have come out in the open on a local news station or in some sort of official print so recruits, players, Slive, and others could see how dirty chizik and the aub program is...Why doesn't anyone go public with this? I mean, just Saban declining the Cowboys job would've been front page ESPN alone if it were public. Imagine if Peaches and other recruits' families came out and told all about how manipulative Auburn is; imagine the backlash, possibly worse recruiting classes for that cow college

I'm sure some one could copy and paste what Earle posted and send it to a state reporter with the suggestion of talking to Brent and his family. ;)

The story sickens me honestly. To stoop to that low is just wrong. Chizik puts on a face for the public and gets away with it.

I might get flamed for this, but here it goes - I'm not surprised it works for some kids. Look at AU's graduation rate. Their players aren't smartest kids in the world. If you aren't smart, you'll believe a lot of stuff, especially stuff coming from a coach that is begging you to come play for him. (I'm NOT saying smart people won't buy that garbage, just that the not-so-bright will fall for it more often.) Hear some of their recruits talk. They aren't smart. Trooper sells his family pitch while also putting on a "hip" appearance, and some players buy it faster than a candy bar.

How do you know how smart a kid is from listening to him? I went to school with a guy who literally became a rocket scientist but he could only carry on a conversation with certain people. I am not saying these kids are THAT smart, but you are really reaching with these comments, I think. Coach Saban has recruited many of those "dumb" players over the past few years. If they had committed to Bama instead of Auburn, would you say the same thing?

Did you see the part I made about their graduation rate?

Here is an article. 85th in the nation. Not too great.

This has been the AU walking orders on recruiting long before CNS arrived at Bama. Chizik was around when the recruiting line was "Bama is getting the death penalty" and today it is no different. From our depth chart to CNS going back to the NFL, players that are being recruited are getting the spill. Look back on the 1st Tiger Prowl (whatever they call it) weekend and you have players we are not even recruiting looking into cameras mocking CNS and Bama. That is because somewhere in the recruiting conversation Bama comes up. I have never considered AU to be a little brother, more like an obsessed stalker. We all know the old joke that every AU fan has their bedroom window facing west because they can get up every morning and see what is going on in Tuscaloosa.

Well, the parents were involved with both Lattimore and Clowney (Clowney still currently). Why is it not OK for Peaches also, when he's trying to keep BC out of the barn's clutches. I think this response was brought on by the howls of foul sent up by the barners when BC switched back to Bama...

Not a flame, but I find this statement and the sentiment behind it troubling. First of all, it's not a lack of intelligence that the barn recruiters appear to be exploiting. It's a combination of other factors, including unusual family situations, lack of life experience, emotional state and--based on rumors explored elsewhere--hormones. Somebody who knows where those buttons are on a 17 to 18 year old kid and knows how to push them has a chance of luring even the smartest kid.

It's close to the methods used by those who entice minors for other sick deeds, and it makes me wonder when the dude from MSNBC is going to come from behind the curtain and tell the barn recruiter to "go have a seat over there."

You would think that after winning their NC, Cheez-its could sell his program without trying to attack UA, but these are 17-18 kids. Like Trooper wearing his hat backward and waving his towel, it is just Allbarn trying be be on the level of a 17-18 year old. Too bad they actually have to try to grow up in order to do so.

That's as much of a problem with the school itself as the intelligence of the kids. That info still doesn't say to me "these kids are not smart". It says these kids put in the effort they are required to put in or moreover DON'T put in the effort they are not required to. If these same kids went to a school that held them to a higher standard, then many more of them would have probably graduated. I think you definitely have a point, I just don't think it should be directed at these kids' intelligence.

My hunch is that this is what RTR91 meant, and I would be very curious to know what the personal situations are for AU recruits in comparison with the rest of the conference. It does seem that they are exploiting something in a way that the rest of the country isn't.
