Is Ai coming for your job? (also, updated Ai development)

Just found out today that the program I use to do architectural drawings (Revit) is introducing AI with the 2027 version. Probably won't be long before I want be needed for drawing. The 2027 version comes out later this month.
ai has been "integrated" into a few of the programs/services i use at work. I've dabbled with a couple of them and they are basically glorified help/chat bots

That is what the summary looked like. Basically a chat bot that will tell us old school revit users what we already know how to do or at least should know. My fear with this is how long before you tell it, "hey revit, I need a 12 story full service prototype Mariott Hotel in Tulsa, Oklahoma."? It is rare that we get asked to go non-prototypical and even if we do it is just the lobby area.

So far i have not been impressed with AI in my industry. AI judgment is not up to par. Repetitive tasks its helping to a degree but the FTE is more focused on quality control of the AI application.

I was told about a movie available on Prime Video called Mercy. Apparently, the premise that AI data will be as effective as DNA in matching a suspect to a crime because it will be impossible for a person to not leave a digital journey. Anyway, the suspect has 90 minutes to prove his innocence and then he swiftly convicted and executed.
Watched it, pretty ‘meh’, but the concept being a possible reality eventually is pretty troubling, especially with the latest Ai news reported by Apple (see next post).

With anything, depending on the sector of work you're in will depend on how threatening Ai is becoming or has already become. There are a lot of jobs in admin sectors where Ai has completely taken over. I think it was UPS or FedEx reported they'd eliminated like 14,000 office admin jobs because of Ai. That sucks for the people who lost their jobs because my guess is many of them had been doing that type of work their entire work lives. Now what? I can only imagine.

I've found that, if you ask a question with too many conditions, and I mean logical ones, it breaks down entirely...
Yeah, I might be safe for a while because of variables like codes, client specific needs, etc. While we do use the International Building Code, every state has amendments to that code and the city and county might have a different interpretation of those codes. Then there is ADA codes and that factors in. Then the client might want more Kings or Queens in their hotel, then there are the handicap rooms, then tubs vs showers. The only thing AI could do without human help is a concept building that would just show what it might look like. Plus AI might now know what the views are. Case in point we are having to redesign a building that was designed 6 years ago. The project got put on hold. In the meantime, the city built a new building (currently under construction). That building would block any view every guest would have. They now would look at that building. We are having to move our building on the site. I doubt AI would figure this out without a human.

i have been voluntold that i am our department's rep on our a.i. working group at the office. our first meeting is next week, i'll be interested to see what that looks like.
Please let us know how that goes (within the boundaries of what you can share, of course).

My oldest child is working for a large, well-known company that is trying to integrate Ai in to their workflow and he already sees how disastrously unworkable it is in current form.

Weird how so many companies are so bought-in...

the way it was presented to me was that we are exploring to see in what ways it might be useful. within our organization, there may be some repetitive tasks that it can help with for a couple of the teams, but we're relatively small and i think it would be more in the realm of making their job easier/more manageable rather than eliminating it all together.

i manage our research team and my boss is probably more skeptical of it than i am, so i seriously doubt it's going to impact me that much directly. i am playing around with it a little from time to time as our programs have it added in just to make sure i'm not being too stubborn.

It blows my mind, especially with how commonly it's been shown to be in error.
I've managed to get completely contradictory answers by changing the framing of the questions. Also, it was recently tested in simple math and the results weren't pretty. Just do a Google search with something like "AI tested on simple math problems," and you'll get AI's own explanation... :)

We have yet to see much real AI. So far its just been an extreme use of a 'if then' comand coupled with powerful queries.
There will be no doubt when real AI arrives and it wont end up well.

Will AI reach this phase soon though? I have friends and colleagues who are programmers and half say that AI will amazingly and suddenly sentient in 18 months... And half who say we've just made the ultimate chatbot...
