Is anyone else concerned about the reputation of our defense?

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE watching our defense play football. They are hands down the most physical defense in the country.

That being said, I can't help but notice how many opposing players leave the game and don't return due to injury. Ol' Miss was the first time an opposing QB made it from beginning to end in a game this season. (Some due to blowouts to preserve their health, but a few due to injury.)

I just read how 2 Ol' Miss defenders are out for the season due to injuries suffered in the BAMA game. (I realize these 2 are defenders but still) I don't know exactly how many opposing players have left the games, but it seems like every game SOMEBODY's season is ended (or substantially shortened) because of an injury they suffered against our defense. I have watched virtually every play this season and I wouldn't call us a "dirty" team (I don't see any Nick Fairley's out there), but I can't help but worry that others around the country won't see it that way.

Again, I am extremely proud of the way our team plays, but is anyone else concerned about our reputation?
*blank stare* Umm... No. I think it's a good thing to have a reputation for playing hard. Either you play hard, or you get hurt. Not our problems. We got better things to worry about such as our kicking games.. focusing on improving our blocking, improving our passing games and figure out a way to put stop to rugby kicking to Maze.

Re: Is anyone else concerned about the reputation of out defense?

No.

I remember all to well what happened to us from 2003-2007. We were the ones getting our QB knocked out of the game, players injured ending their seasons and the hopes of Alabama contending ended along with them.

Why did this happen to us? We were a weak team compared to the teams we faced, and we lacked depth. What you are seeing is a deep, talented team imposing its will on lesser opponents. It's not dirty play, it's football.

Right after our defense knocks the hell out of someone, almost always they help the guy up and pat him on the helmet or the back.
Amen....Brother

It is a physical sport after all, injuries happen:eek:

I think we are seen overall in a good way or at least I hope so anyway. I know Nick Saban talked recently on "Hey Coach" about unsportsmanlike conduct not being what we are about (reference to FL game). I think strength and training under Saban's program makes the team what they are now, as well. I just assume some of the guys going down on the other teams are not exposed to the type of strength and training our guys have. I remember a time under Shula when too many of our guys were dropping and wondered what was going on with strength and training. They did not seem prepared. It does make a difference. I watched an interview with Trent once and he said he liked to work out a lot so he would be hard to get down and would even drag the other players along if he had to on the field. I understand what the original poster was saying, but think it is all a part of our disciplined plan.

Well, I feel bad for the other team, but I'm not concerned about our reputation. It's not like our guys are pulling a Brandon Spikes or Nick Fairley. We're just stinkin' tough.

This is NOT two hand touch football! This is real football played the way it was meant to be played. We are not using the flying wedge!

Injuries happen! That's part of the game. Alabama's #32 was injured in an earlier game this year. Thank God he was able to play yesterday.

USCe's Lattimore was NOT playing against the Alabama defense yesterday, but now he's out for the season. Was that the Alabama D's fault?

I like to see our players play with an intent to get the guy with the ball whoever it is as quick as they can and make him want to run to the sideline and sit for the rest of the game. One term that I've heard used is playing "with wreckless abandon".

Hopefully, Alabama will have an injury free season the rest of the way and hopefully that will be true of the teams we play. I don't like excuses for NOT playing your best. Football is blocking and tackling, not .....ing and bellyaching! I do like to see our players knock 'em down as hard as they can and help them get up off the ground and pat them on the helmet. I did see that yesterday. I don't recall seeing too much of our opponents doing that to Bama players.

Where did you get that "REPUTATION bit" about our defense. Is that just your perception? It's not my perception.

A bad reputation would be players on the team always getting personal foul penalties! That has NOT happened.

When the media, opposing coaches, and their players describe Alabama's defense as being "physical" they are playing them the ultimate compliment!

I'm really proud of our D they come ready to play & mean business. Some teams may need to look at "their" conditioning.
We all know what coach Cochran does for Bama, oh by the way Trent running over guys is not healthy either.

OP, I gave Mal Moore a call on your behalf, and you'll be pleased to know that he has agreed to scrap our football program and start a ballet troupe.Tryouts begin tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. Don't forget your tutu and pointe shoes.

Here's a fact:

We typically recruit larger AND faster players than other teams because Saban likes a more physical style of play.

We're probably about an inch or two taller and several pounds larger on average at almost every position on the field than our opponents, many of whom recruit smaller players for spread-type offenses.

When a pickup truck hits a semi, the pickup truck is usually going to come out with more damage. That's just the nature of physics.
