I’m not sure I have ever seen the offense use this tactic. Maybe one has, but this is to primarily slow down these garbage tempo offenses.

Do offenses even have to “huddle” between the hash marks? That would be a big step towards curbing the nonsense. I think college hash marks are closer together?
I could see it being used by an offensive team for a free timeout. Have a WR or RB that gets swapped on a regular basis drop and get a timeout while they “injured” is attended to, and give the coach a moment to converse with his team.

Not a fan of this rule, offenses routinely break the rules and nobody bats an eye, but now the defenses have had the rules changed and now have subjective rules in place to hamper them more.

If you’re so worried about the game fix the offensive nonsense.
This. I see how this issue comes up every year when rules are being discussed until someone brings up the optics of enforcing a penalty or rule on a player that was legitimately hurt. When rules favor one side of the ball to the point where the other side’s only recourse is deception it’s time to look at the root cause of the problem instead.

I suppose the offense could to save a timeout.😎

It's about time this problem is being addressed. The first fake injury supposedly occurred back in 1953 when Frank Leahy had his Notre Dame team actually practice faking injuries. What else would you expect from a school that tries to pride itself on high moral conduct? So it only took 72 years for a rule to be created, but as the saying goes "It's better late than never" I guess.
