Is there a scenario where we still back into the playoffs?

That’s exactly what will/would happen.

That’s why I want a meaningless bowl game.

This season was dead after OU.

The selfish players will immediately opt out with some ‘heartfelt’ thank you on social media blah blah I’m off to the NFL.

Then the real work will begin for 2025.

I’d like to see those guys play.

I didn’t watch one snap of the AU game yesterday.

I refuse to watch #4 another second.
we watched a few plays but had F1 qualifying and the finals of the American Bake Off to watch.

no, the South Carolina argument goes like this:
- Alabama barely beat South Carolina at home
- SC manhandled both teams that beat Alabama and in the exact same venues
- SC “really” only has two losses because the officials jobbed them against LSU

That argument isn’t exactly complete, but I will note it is the exact same argument that Alabama fans still use to justify the 1977 national championship over Notre Dame, completely ignoring all of the aspects you mention

As far as Penn State and Indiana, if I were an advocate, for their cause, I would cut right to the chase:

Penn State, Indiana, and Alabama all played a bunch of 5-5 teams.

Only Alabama lost to two of them.
I am very disappointed in this team/season but under no circumstances am I going to use metrics or common opponents to say USCe is better than Alabama or IU or Penn State. I like Alabama’s chances to go 11-1 playing Penn State or IU’s schedule. I am not sure they would be 9-3 playing ours. 🤔 It is a new era with these playoffs and SOS and ranked wins have to be at a premium or each year you will have teams like your USCe, Ole Miss, or the mighty UGA who was a fg or 2pt conversion from being left out for Boise, SMU and the others above. The only way you can have a tournament is if the best 12 are invited not the 12 best records. As for USCe we’ll see what the draft say’s about who has a better team. With all due respect.

I’m of this opinion: if we get in, great- something to play for. If we don’t, we can’t throw shade on the committee or media talking heads. Want to secure your place? Don’t lose in Nashville or Norman.
It’s annoying that after we pooped in Norman last week, OU goes to LSU and get thumped handily. I guess it’s hard to steal signs in Baton Rouge.

People need to quit treating Vanderbilt and Oklahoma like they were 3 win programs. Both are bowl eligible.

Plus, we boat raced LSU (who they lost to) big time in their house. And we crushed Missouri who they barely beat.

and if you compare their wins to our wins, we win that argument.
I agree.

I just pointed out how they’re going to make the case.

I think OU had more incentive against us because they were playing for bowl eligibility. OU has the 2nd longest streak of bowl appearances (26) and they are proud of that fact. They wanted badly to get the win at home rather than have to try to do it at LSU, so since they got it they probably lacked intensity to play LSU.

The committee made the wrong choice by not including Bama in 2022. This time? I honestly don’t think we deserve it.

Talking heads want SC in because of the story and page clicks it would generate. On the field results matter more than “should’ve” argumentation. “Should’ve beaten Bama” is bogus. That’s not how football works. Either you won or didn’t. They also lost to Ole Miss who’s 9-3. So, there are two 9-3 teams in the SEC who should be ahead of SC because they got beat straight up. I agree it’s a nice story. But, no, they don’t need to be in the playoffs over Bama (or many other teams).

ETA- I don’t see a 9-3 team who deserves to be in the playoff btw.

I followed the AU games score on gamecast on ESPN

But yes I've opted out of seeing #4 play.

I'm choosing to not have a heart attack or a stroke.

I've never had one single player tick me off so badly and I'm choosing my health.
I 💯 understand. Choosing your health over the stress is a reasonable choice. I had planned to watch something else, but with my Bucks loss I needed the distraction. Thank the Lord that Alabama won.

I have a hard time understanding how OU destroyed us, we destroyed LSU, and LSU destroyed OU. I know any team can win on a given day, but these wild swings seem fishy. It wouldn't seem odd at all if all of those games had been decided by 3-10 points, but it is always a headscratcher when there are these huge swings. Anyway, after the pathetic performance we gave in Norman, I don't think we deserve the playoffs. However, I will definitely cheer for Bama if we are there.

IMO! The "eeyores" don't want us to go because they somehow have this fictional pride that they project on to the team and if you can't win it all, then you don't deserve to go at all. When the reality is that they probably work with people that "rib" them on Mondays after an Alabama loss and they can't take it! Then there are those of us that believe that any extra practice or game experience is good for next years team and recruiting. I'll take it if we get in and certainly if we get a good bowl game!
I can't speak for others, but I can say that you have no clue what's going on in my head or in my life.

Will I be happy if we make the layoffs? Yes. Will I cheer for the team if we make the playoffs? Absolutely.

Nevertheless, IMO, SCar would be a better pick, because they're playing better ball right now.

I don’t see how USCe would be over an Ole Miss team that beat them at home by 3 touchdowns

I didn't know you were an "Eeyore"! That being said, it's just an opinion on a discussion board. You don't sound like an Eeyore.

Feel good that’s 10 of the 12 spots

Miami, South Carolina, Bama, Indiana, maybe smu if they lose to Clemson

Those 5 fighting for the other 2 spots
Indiana is a lock....there's one spot left for Miami, Bama, SC, or Ole Miss.

With respect, Selma, who needs reminding? It‘s a 12 team playoff now - for better or worse, this is CFB. There are 3 loss teams that have to be considered - especially those with SOS that are far and away superior. I suppose it's the new-ness, but don't know why this is causing some people brain aneurysms.
It's almost like we will need a year to reprogram our minds around what is a deserving team to make the playoffs. There aren't going to be 12 undefeated or one loss teams to choose. Every year, we are going to be sorting through two and three loss teams to fill those final spots, and there are going to be teams with bad losses that make it. There isn't a team battling for the final playoff spots that doesn't have a bad loss with the exception of SMU. Do I think Alabama "deserves" to be in? As much or more than MIami and SC, but I am also biased.

Which brings me to my next point on SMU. Based on the AP and Coaches polls today, which are at best leading indicators of what the committee will do, I am feeling good about where we stand with SC and MIami. As for SMU, I'm feeling good about that as well. They don't have anything on their resume to really point to should they lose to Clemson, but they also don't really have anything to hold against them in the loss column beyond a BYU loss that isn't really a bad loss. Should Clemson beath them, it will come down to whether the committee wants a team that has proven they are capable of beating anyone while simultaneously capable of losing to average teams, or do they want a team that has proven they aren't going to beat really good teams but aren't going to lose to below average teams. I like our chances in that scenario. I also think the committee isn't going to be too quick to put two teams in from the ACC when ND (a de facto ACC team) ran rough shod through their 5 game ACC schedule.

Well, if the CFP ranking are similar to the AP rankings....right now we'd be going to Knoxville again.

If they end up like I've got below, we head to Penn State.

1. Oregon - Big 10 champ
2. Texas - SEC champ
3. SMU - ACC champ
4. Boise State - highest ranked other champ
5. Notre Dame
6. Penn State
7. Georgia
8. Tennessee
9. Ohio State
10. Indiana
11. Alabama
12. Arizona State - Big 12 champ

Notre Dame splatters Arizona State
Georgia beats Indiana handily
Hopefully Ohio State and Bama win.

Agree 100%. This is not a championship caliber team anyway, IMHO.
