:mad2: testicle fortitude and go for it against lswho on fourth and goal bad play calling but at least they went for the win, not the last series but the one where they were on the goal line and threw twice to try and score that was stupid but good god when will CMS realize that if your in someones back yard and have a chance to win it you gotta take the chance. I mean come on fourth and 1 from the 37 with 9+ remaining and the ground game AVERAGING 6 yds per carry good grief it was a no brainer even the announcers were calling better plays for us than we were. If you are gonna shut down the passing then bring in arron johns at qb let him either run it or option as we sure as he!! went into a shell but that wasn't really it when you get that many yards on the ground I guess you got no choice but come on folks 4th and 1 with us down by 4 and to punt with our coverage team not very well coached on stopping the ball inside the 10 why take a chance on netting 17 lousy yards. I watched the game 3 times and there were so many chances for us to open it up. The crossing pattern over the middle which by the way was PASS INTERFERENCE not a great DB play he had his left arm around the wr's waist to come across and knock the ball away and if you listen the announcers again made the call saying hoggies got away with it! But jesus it was there off the play action but instead we chose to go into the shell and not take anymore shots. I am not knocking the team as a whole but the coverage team must learn ANYWHERE INSIDE THE TEN YARD LINE IS FINE!!!!!!!!!!

And for my second outlook how many times did jones roll to the left\??? Let me count them for you as I did on the 2nd time of watching it. The grand total was 1!!!!!!!!!!! !1 lousy time and got sacked I might add!!!! So why in the world would you not put a lb or even RH up on the left side of the DEF line outside of the normal stance and make jones beat ya somewhere else!!!!!!! He beat us to the right every freaking time doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out how to stop him period put someone out there and make him go left or straight back where I might add we got good pressure but it hurt us cause he would roll right and tear us up!! If you can't tell I was a little more than ****ed off with the whole coaching strategy and I cannot say whether or not MG was worth a crap or not sure he threw some bad ones, three I think but drops by TE/WR was at least 2-3 and not one freaking time did we hit the back out of the backfield or FB !! Was very simple to beat them and the score does not reflect how close we were to success but then again when you sit back and let an opposing qb do what everyone in the country KNOWS he does best which is to the right in case you forgot!! Then to not trust the offense to get 1 lousy freaking yard when they haven't stopped any of our backs all day is just SAD !!! I thought we would be 9-2 or 8-3 but with this kind of mentality my knew outlook is at best 6-5 and thats a big maybe depends on whether or not anyone else gets hurt!!!!! I can assure you SC will stack the line and make us throw as they know its what we do best even before BC was hurt our ground game was awesome, but their coaches will not allow us to do what we do best and no one else in the SEC or on the schedule will either but for some reason we allow other teams to do what they do best!! I guess against SC we will go to a 3-4 defense and let them run all over us cause they run pretty well too so lets just let them do what they do best and try and counter it!!!!!! I am done venting and need 2-3 more days of rest cause I havent slept since that crap in hogville and yes I deserve my lumps we got beat but dang if I thought the staff would let jones do his thing to the right, :mad2: guess I was wrong and if we keep preparing to let teams to do what they do best we got a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong season ahead!!!! :mad2:

Ray Hudson was a man Saturday, but you have got to let guillon throw the ball. the 1st interception was not his fault. On 2nd and short, throw it long try to make a big play. the defense deserves a gameball and Bostick showed how much he improved by hitting the same Fg he missed last year. but dont a start qb and not have confidence in him. he threw only because they were down 10 obvious passing situations. sometimes the element of surprise wins games.

And You Would Think????????????????

THAT THE STAFF WOULD STOP THAT CRAP IT WOULD BE SO EASY TO PUT A LB OUT THERE AND MAKE HIM GO THE OTHER WAY OR GET NAILED BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LETS JUST SEE IF WHAT HE HAS DOWN FOR THE LAST 6 YEARS AT ARK WAS A FLUKE TO TRY AND FOOL US!!! JESUS CHRIST I AM ANGRY AND CANNOT GET OVER IT!!! WE BETTER BE BETTER PREPARED FOR SC OR I WILL GO THROUGH THE ROOF!!! ALREADY PUNCHED A HOLE IN MY SHED DOOR FROM SATURDAY AS MY WIFE MAKES ME WATCH THE GAMES IN THE SHED WITH MY TV AS I GET PRETTY ANGRY WHEN WE DO STUPID STUFF!! :mad2:

Now I don't care who you are, that's funny RIGHT there...

Well.....

We did hit the back out of the backfield one time for a nice gain. The only problem was the holding penalty on Tatum that negated the nice gain. That was at a key point in the game and would have been a huge gain as it put us well on Arkansas' side of the field.

The biggest problem I have with the game was the poor execution and poor concentration of our players. We had two balls taken away from us. One was the dropped interception that rolled off RH's back and the other was Prothro's fear of being hit. Both of those plays were huge in the game as the momentum swung over to Arkansas.

And I know this has been discussed on here at length, but why does one of our DBs still, after all these years, look haphazard at best when covering receivers. If it wasn't for Hudson and the play of the o-line, it would have been even worse.

Oh...and speaking of the line....isn't the left side of our line the strongest? It seemed that we ran right and rolled right more often than not. Also, one thing we've had all year was the right personnel in the game for a given play. It just didn't seem that way this game as Hudson, Darby, and Castille seemed to all be in on plays that were better suited to the strengths of one of the other runners.

Overall, our execution and preparation were very poor. Our o-line and Hudson played very well, but you can't have receivers breaking the opposite way of the throw and running backs fumbling the ball and still come out ahead on the road in the SEC. We aren't good enough to make fundamental mistakes and get away with it.

Please take these observations with a grain of salt as I was at the game in Fayetteville and haven't had the opportunity to watch the tape yet.

Hopefully this game was an anomaly or it will be a very long season against our biggest foes.

Now, if we can get your wife to take away your keyboard and mouse we won't have to listen to the screamin' and rantin' either.

Oops!

Lord, I apologize. And help the starvin' pygmies down in New Guinea. Amen.

WYTBOYZ - I'm sorry, but you are completely off >>>

the mark with your comments regarding that one play that HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FINAL OUTCOME OF THE GAME!

I am so sick and tired of hearing crap about that play! IT MEANT NOTHING and if you would use your brain and not your emotions you'd realize that we got the freakin ball right back on the 47 yard line, which is exactly what Shula wanted!

The fact of the matter is this...we lost the game because of 3 plays (for those of you who have read this, I'm sorry, but it obviously needs to be pointed out again for those of us who are a bit slow).

Play 1 - The "Miracle Reception" on their first drive. We sacked Jones on second down on that drive on their own 50! If the ball is either intercepted or incomplete, they punt...NO SCORE!

Play 2 - We are driving and are inside their 35 and Darby FUMBLES...that cost us at least 3 points!

Play 3 - On the series after your problem call we run a screen pass that gets us almost 25 yards down inside their 30 and we get a holding penalty...Again a net loss of at least 3 points!

Here is what happens "IF" all we get is 6 points. First, our score is 16...next, they don't score on the opening drive and they don't score on the final drive because they are either going for it on 4th down toward the end of the game because we're up 16-13 or we run the clock out and aren't throwing the ball on 4th down from our own 16, so we don't give up that final touchdown.

OUTCOME - BAMA 16 - ARK - 13!

NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PLAY YOU ARE HARPING ON!

Would you say that Shula and staff are as good at X's and O's as you are at typing? ;)

The D held Jones to 60 net yards rushing, of which 50 came on one play. They held what was then the top passing team in the SEC to 122 yards passing. They sacked the previously never-sacked Jones FOUR times.

The gameplan was to be conservative in order to protect a sophomore QB making not only his first start, but also getting his first significant playing time since HS from making mistakes to beat us. We rushed for over 270 yards on the road.

Croyle attempted 22 passes in each of the three games he played in. Guillon attempted 18 on Saturday. That's not really much of a change in the gameplan. Especially when you consider that we had a new, inexperienced QB starting. On the road.

And stealing from 1BamaNita:

Is a fumble inside the Arkansas 20 a bad coaching decision?

Is a ball rolling off a defenders back right into the Arkansas receivers hands a bad coaching decision?

Is a Bama receiver letting a ball go through his hands into an Arkansas defenders hands for an int a bad coaching decision?

Is a RB slipping when he looked to be going for a critical first down a bad coaching decision?

Is a freshman WR not downing the ball at the 5 when he had a perfect chance a bad coaching decisions?

Majority of the time, it's the players who make plays that win games. Not the coaches.

The 4th and one call was sound. Not risky. Definitely not aggressive. But it was sound. I, like many, would have liked to see us go for it. That doesn't make either decision the wrong call. It's so easy to armchair coach and quarterback after the fact. As has already been mentioned, if he had gone for it and not gotten the first down, many on here would be screaming that it was a boneheaded move to go for it with that much time left on the clock when we could have pinned them deep with a punt, yada, yada, yada.

I'm not particularly a Joe Kines fan. In fact, he wouldn't be my choice for DC. However, I was impressed at how we bottled up Jones and the Hog offense on Saturday. He got loose on a couple of plays. That freshman FB made a couple of big plays. That was the difference in the game. We didn't make the big plays needed to win the game. We did just the opposite.

JMO.

What about their Gunners?

My god our punt returners had no shot of a return, we even were called for holding and face mask and they still got there before the ball. I understand your dealing with underclassmen on special teams but my god anyone can be taught to block a man.

In a game like that a 10 yard return can help dramatically.

Wow!

If you're banished to the shed you might need to consider getting some help. I used to scare people when I got upset playing video games, so I pretty much layed off of them for a while until I figured out how to release that energy in ways other than cursing and screaming and hurling the controller in a violent manner.

Also, it would help to win some approval if you a) didn't take the Lord's name in vain on more than one occasion and b) calm down so you can post more intelligibly. I'm not flaming you, just offering constructive criticism. Usually your posts are pretty good, but this one was very obviously written amidst one of your fits of rage.

The coaches are reviewing the game as well (probably several more times than yourself), and I'm confident that they will make the necessary corrections. I, too, was disappointed with much of the offensive play calling (why not more screens when they were working so well, why so few play fakes when the running game was clicking, etc), but they must have had some reasons for it.

This team

needs unity, not a bunch of naysayers. We get enough of that from Finebaum and the state sportswrites. The Ark game is history and there's nothing we can do about the outcome.

This has been one of the best responses I have seen. Well thought out.

I would only add the 50 yard scamper by Matt Jones in the 4th quarter...two series after the 4th and 1 punt...that set up their game clinching touchdown.

You are sooooooo wrong.....it sent a terrible message of no confidence to the Offense team, and it shifted the momentum of the game. I almost died when he punted on 4th and 15". I did not like the call then not, after the result. You must take control of the game, and if you fail so what....at least you tried and got beat by your opponent. It is no disgrace to lose when you give it your best shot. Also, CHN could have played the % and kicked a FG to give his team a 7 point lead.....but he went for it and scored to ice the game. Almost 90% of the SEC coaches would go for the short yard in that situation.I'm always ready to let this go and then I read posts like this.....geesh I realize there were many other things that caused this loss, but it still could have been prevented in spite of them all with some confidence in the OL.
