I'd like to request that anything Slimebomb says be put in a separate thread, clearly labeled, so I'll know not to click on the thread. I don't want to accidentally read it here.

Re: Jimmy Johns Arrested

This is huge news on two fronts.

First and foremost, this is the end of the road for Johns if these charges are true. It has absolutely nothing to do with what Coach Saban thinks about the situation either. When you are talking about multiple counts of distribution of cocaine, you are talking many years in the penitentiary. It really doesn't matter what Coach Saban says or thinks on this issue... at this point this is completely up to the police.

Second, as Earle pointed out earlier, every single one of us better be praying to God or whatever other deity you worship that this does not involve anyone else associated with the football team or the football program in general. If this involves only Jimmy Johns it is mainly an issue with himself, but if this thing involves other players on the team, look out... this thing will blow up like Hiroshima.

I hope this was isolated to one single player, but you better be fully aware that this could blow up and get much worse.

I'm almost certain that this is limited to JJ. He might have supplied teammates, but none were ever rumored of dealing like JJ.

Re: Jimmy Johns Arrested

This is really hard to fathom and is yet another example of the loose culture which existed under the previous coaching staff. I was warned by some former players that things of this nature might come to light.

I was hoping when CNS arrived he would be able to affect enough change to reverse most of this type of behavior. CNS is doing a great job but there are still some head cases on this team who still do not get it.

I am appalled and angred by Jimmy Johns behavior. I will pray for Jimmy to get his priorities straight.
Yep, its CMS' fault. Its not like we have to hold the individual accountable for his own actions. Certainly we can't hold CNS at all accountable since he's only had JJ for what; a year and a half? Man.

Re: Jimmy Johns Arrested

Amazing, how someone with his notoriety can deal drugs and not expect to be caught. Every user/junky just loves to turn in (catch) the big fish when they get caught. Nice way to try and take the easy way in life and throw it all away at the same time Jimmy! We do not need players like this neither does any other University. Others should really think before they think they are holier than thou.

Re: Jimmy Johns Arrested

I'm just praying that he didn't have any customers on the team. We didn't need this. He's been a problem for a long time...

I'd think there's a distinct possibility of that. If they are any more that need to go, they need to go NOW.
This football program has been thru the ringer as we all know. This is the last thing this team needed, but the team can't move forward under Coach Saban with dead weight holding it back.
This isn't good in any way, shape or form but its better to happen now than later in the season to disrupt the team and Coach Saban's efforts to build unity and instill leadership in the team. :(

Ex-fricking-actly!!

Is there anything more common in the drug world than someone getting busted and then ratting on a big-name superior that they either helped deal the drugs or got the drugs from? It's the oldest trick in the book... some idiot gets busted and he starts throwing out every name he knows trying to save himself.

And when you are as high profile as Jimmy Johns, there is no confusion whatsoever as to who you are.

Re: Jimmy Johns Arrested

Drugs have been a large part of the reason why many players have missed games since Saban's arrived. He's changed the drug testing policy so that they don't have 24-hour notice. The random selections are told at the beginning of practice to go to the doctor after practice for a urine sample. This prevents niacin cycles that clear the system out well enough to dupe the test for a single urination in the morning.

Simply put, I think the drug problem here is worse than many would like to believe...but I don't think it's much different for any other program in the nation. Drugs are widely used by college students. Probably the highest percentage of marijuana and cocaine users are between 18-25...just a guess, but probably true. They're mostly living off daddy's money and blow it on blow and pot.

Jimmy Johns will be held accountable for his behavior because he has been arrested.

You need to talk to some former players about what occurred during the previous coaching staff's tenure. Or do you think they do not need to be held accountable for their behavior?

if he supplied teammates, then that would mean the teammates are using.

somehow, that wouldn't make me feel any better...nor would it likely mitigate any damage to the team.

this is the kind of thing that could destroy the entire football program.

Re: Jimmy Johns Arrested

Okay, this is pretty big news...

Direct quote from Jeff Snyder, the head of the West Alabama Narcotics Squad:

Jeff Snyder said:
"He was alone. No other players were involved. Nobody else on the team."
Again, let's just pray that is all it is. At the very least the authorities didn't catch any other players, and apparently have no indications that other players on the team did this as well.

Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean that some weren't doing it with Johns and that he might spill the beans to save himself...

Re: Jimmy Johns Arrested

1. If you think nobody on our football team knew he was distributing, you're nuts. However, I doubt there were others that were involved like JJ.

2. We are unbelievably thin at LB now. There's no question that at least 2 frosh LBs will be starting at some point next year.

3. I hope Jimmy gets his life together. He's got a young child as well. It's just a shame all around. This type of thing happens when you bring a guy out of the projects and into a "market" like a college campus. Listen to any rap artist and they are praising this type of behavior and glorifying it.

4. Get ready 'cause the opposing fans are gonna start layin' it on thick. I don't really care about that as much but this, coupled with all the other legal troubles our players are getting themselves into, and we've got one helluva damaged reputation right now. I'm hurting right now.

I wouldn't go that far just yet.

I know it's bad to think about a drug problem, but it's simply very common on college campuses these days. It's not a football problem, per se, because you see a ton of it throughout the normal student body, but you're fooling yourself if you don't think it extends into the football program as well. You can almost bet your bottom dollar it is there at Alabama, and everywhere else for that matter.

I also disagree that this is the kind of thing that could destroy the program. Unless it turns out to where a massive amount of players were involved -- and again, there is no evidence to date that there was even a second player -- that won't happen.

Good Grief! :( I'm glad at least that they didn't wait until the season began to end their investigation.

Re: Jimmy Johns Arrested

I was just on jury duty where the charge was possesion of crack/cocaine with intent to distribute. It is a 5 to 10 year prison sentence, if convicted in Pennsylvania. The guy was able to plea bargin down to 2 to 4 years. Either way, it is more time in jail than JJ has years left of eligiblity (if he is guilty). I don't know what sort of a sentence he is facing in Alabama. Perhaps one of you lawyer types could enlighten us?
