Re: Questions and Observations-Navy vs. BC Bowl Game

well, navy still had control of the game, and outplayed bc. i sure hope paul johnson their coach is not being sought after, after that terrible play call. less than 2minutes on the clock, no time outs for BC, ahead by only 2 points, and they pitch the ball outside for a fumble. why not a draw into the line use up 40 more seconds, punt, and see if their offense can move the ball 65 yards for a field goal trywith about 58 seconds remaining, and no time outs. not going to happen in college football.

i noticed all of that...especially the penalties part.

the only thing i was a little bit dissappointed with was the option play with a minute and a half.

Overall, i LIKE PJ

Exactly. I was thinking the same thing. There was no need to get fancy there. I had flashbacks to the 1997 Bama-Auburn game.

For a bunch of really smart kids that was an absolutely stupid play. Overall I was impressed at how well Navy competed. It sucks to lose like that. It reminds me of the AL/Ark. this year. Dominate pretty much the entire game and lose.

Re: Questions and Observations-Navy vs. BC Bowl Game

1. Did you notice when they went to the close up shots after each play how much larger BC's players were?
It was clear they were extremely outmanned physically by much taller, larger and faster BC players, yet they still should have won the game.

2. How many times can you recall that you could see a head coach's head over his players helmets? I think most of Navy's players are under 6'.

3. Did you notice that there was no "showboating" or "hot dogging" by Navy's players like BC's? The Navy players would just hand the ball to the official after a TD.

4. It appears Navy seems to "play as a team". They should have been blown out.

5. Did you notice the nice passing highlights when they showed past years bowl highlights for Navy?
It's clear that Navy's QB has no arm like some past QB's, including the injured starter.

6. I noticed very few penalties by Navy, including a couple of "phantom" holding calls. That last turnover was the only one, but 1 too many.
probably says less about the coach than about the type of students at a service academy

Re: Questions and Observations-Navy vs. BC Bowl Game

Most of the "did you notice" points are characteristic of any academy team, which is one reason I so very much enjoy watching the three of them play. PJ did a good job in this game, right up until the play call leading to the killer fumble recovery by BC.

i am amazed the coach called a pitchout option, with 1.50 remaining, and no timeouts for BC. needed 15 yards, no way. winning by only 2 points. a simple draw into the middle, run the clock another 45 seconds, punt the ball, and force BC to drive 65 or more yards for a field goal with no time outs, and about 58 seconds on the clock. college ball it wont happen. chaulk up another coaching option for the tide. he took away the biggest moment these midshipmen would remember.

The main thing I noticed is that Navy lost because of poor play calling by the head coach and no half time adjustments. Seems like I watched the same thing all year.

With no vertical passing threat, the defense was able to key all over that play, too. A run up the middle and a punt would have won that game.

CPJ did make halftime adjustments and one was not to pass the ball in the second half. Seems very logically seeing how the passing game was working so well.

What do you think Navy's record over the last 4 years would be like if Tubberville was the coach?

...or for that matter, Saban?

There's no hostility here. I thought my question was a good one though.

How do you think Tubberville or Saban would have done at Navy the last 4 years?

Better yet, how do you think Paul Johnson would have done with Bama's players against BC today?
