I don't think the coaches thought they could protect the QB. in Q-4 when they finally crossed the 50 on a QB scramble, QB sacks & a fumble on 4th took them backwards. I really think they thought if Ga Southern could run on us, they could. Of course they should have just looked at the film from the first game to see that they could not. They started believing all the talking heads who said they were the greatest team ever..................

Jefferson, on the same day he pleaded not guilty to a simple-battery charge stemming from an Aug. 26 arrest, second-guessed the offensive play calls in an interview with Atlanta radio station WCNN.
The interesting thing in all of this is not necessarily the sour grapes to me. It is the fact that Miles played Jefferson after saying that the charges had been dropped and JJ was eligible to return to the team. If he is still being arraigned for misdemeanor battery, that means the charges were never dropped, but just put on the back burner until the end of the season.

I don't really care if they were doing some "college football town police work" to get him back on the field, but they shouldn't say that he is eligible because the charges are dropped, only to have the charges come back. He was either eligible to play or he wasn't (in the team rules sense). The question now becomes whether he would have had to worry about this charge had LSU won the game on his arm or legs.

They were really never dropped. It was announced at the time that they'd been reduced. It appears that their "team rule" is that a player can play with a misdemeanor pending, but not a pending felony. I never thought it made any sense. How can there possibly be a "misdemeanor head-kicking." If kicking a man in the head, helpless, on the ground, is not aggravated assault, or even attempted murder, I don't know what is. It's basically trying to kill someone without a weapon...

Everyone probably heard this during the pregame, but I'll repeat.
When asked about the long period between games, Les in his wisdom, said " I think we have perfected the preparation process ". It took me a minute to process just what he had said.
Perfected the preparation process. Think about that.
I smelled doom for LSU when he said that.

You could tell he was upset during the game with those looks he was giving the sidelines between plays... he was never mentally in the game.
Well said...

I watched the game - again - last night, and those looks to which you refer just jump off the screen.

A seeming mixture of puzzlement and desperation...

Thanks TIDE-HSV. After looking around I found the same information, and was coming to clear it up, only to find you on top of it. Thanks again.

Big losses can rally a team together or tear a team apart. So far, it seems that complaining, back-stabbing, and generally coming apart is the rule in Baton Rouge. It will be interesting to see if they can turn their loss into something positive before next season. That will be the key to their success next season.

Will JJ be back next year? I wonder what Saban's reaction would be if one of our players went on the radio to criticize...
No, he was a senior. I have been amazed at the number of LSU players (present and newly past) that have been publicly questioning/criticizing the LSU coaches. To me, that shows a lack of respect for Lester and co.

Alabama played more split safety with underneath zone in the BCSCG. We don't play a ton of split safety but when we do it is usually man under with some blitzing. They really only attacked the cover two void between the corner and safety twice and both were in the first two plays of the second half. The problem is they feared our safeties cheating that route if they continued to attack it because Lester darn near intercepted once.

We just had a great game plan to stop their offense. We set our linemen gap responsibilities and ILB run fits in such away that we could defend their interior runs while leaving the OLBs free to play perimeter runs specifically stringing out the QB on any speed option. With the cover two zone, the corners could set the corner allowing the OLB or safety to stop the runner on options and their hustle on beating blocks allowed them to make the play occasionally. Similarly, these concepts worked well to contain their bubble screen passing too.

LSU used a lot of screening for good yardage when their run struggled and really only attacked deep off play action. They weren't built to be a drop back passing offense and their quarterbacks seem to struggle attacking the zone at times. They just got out schemed that night. They weren't use to so many of their bread and butter plays being so ineffective. When they struggled to run, typically they were getting man coverage and could attack through play action or they could take advantage of the defense being too far compacted between the hashes and use bubble screens to attack number advantages outside the hashes. Alabama gave them neither of their typical counters while taking away the option and interior run.

They could have done more drop back passing to beat the cover two but it would require a very precise timing passing offense that they weren't adept at running.

The big story here is that Jefferson was out late drinking at Harrah's Casino the night before the game.

Russell Shepard and T-Bob Hebert went to Miles on game day and reported it and said they truly felt Jefferson wasn't ready to play, that he had let the team down, and that they felt Jarrett Lee gave them a better chance to win.

Miles supposedly flew off the handle, said he was the coach and would decide who played and who didn't. He then in turn benched Hebert for the entire game, only played Shepard a couple of snaps, and decided not to play Lee at all. Almost like making an authority statement.

When you consider that Hebert and Shepard were team stalwarts all year it does see kind of funny.

By the way, "technically" this is a rumor I guess, but I have about five alumni buds from T-Town who were in the bar with him and my friend and fellow alum in Orlando, Florida called me the night before the game and said, "Hey my friends from here are at Harrah's and guess who's in the bar drinking?"

Hope this doesn't violate anything. The LSU fans have been saying it for weeks and supposedly that's why Bobby Hebert was so mad at Miles at the post game press conference. NOT because he didn't play Lee as much as him not playing his son because he took a leadership position for the entire team.

T-Bob Hebert is an outstanding football player folks.

It's worth noting that the other LSU players have denied all this. That said, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it weren't all true, even the parts we can't verify...
