Re: CB Deion Belue Set to Enroll at 'Bama (Update: Page 4)

Question: I am assuming Belue has to go through the clearing house and we all know how wonderful folks they are. If they decide his last academic class is not acceptable, can he:

1. Start classes at UA and work out with the team? and
2. Practice and play in Spring game?
3. If UA accepts him academically, can be become eligible by taking and passing classes in the spring semester and then join the team in the fall?
I don't believe he will be able to practice (with coaches) if he is not academically elligible. He should be able to work out. I know all this gets confusing for me since the D. Carter situation last year. I think he could take classes in spring semester to qualify him for the fall. Lets hope he gets it solved before then. I don't think Saban will give him a spot if he isn't completely elligible by beginning of spring. We are so limited in the spots right now.

I mentioned in another thread a possibility of why we haven't heard anything. He signed on either Dec 21 or 22. The university closed on the 24 and reopened on January 3. I wouldn't be surprised if the admissions office is still reviewing the information.

Lyn, the rule is that, if you go the JUCO route, you have to prove that you graduated, that's all. There's no retro look into classes taken, etc. Carter did not graduate from CCC, hence they were not able to give us (and more importantly, the NCAA) what was required. An alternate route was tried (don't ask for details) and it didn't work. If DB can't graduate from JUCO, he would be allowed to practice while clearance is pending. If he can't work it out, then he falls into the same category as Carter - he has to put in a solid passing academic year to earn eligibility. A good friend of mine, coincidentally a VP at UT, once made a remark to me that stuck. We were discussing a JUCO that UT and UA were both interested in. He said "Earle, those guys aren't in JUCO because they're good students and upstanding citizens." I think he bull's-eyed the reason that more JUCOs don't work out than do. All in all, Saban's record with JUCOs is astoundingly good...

Hmm. If I remember correctly, he signed and faxed the paperwork off the same day as Travell Dixon. Dixon was recognized almost immediately. Maybe Dixon got his in a few hours earlier. I hope you are right, but past experience makes me pessimistic.

Dixon also didn't have academic questions.

Db is/was counting on a "mini-term" class to complete his JuCo degree. That does not have the greatest results where the NCAA is concerned (see Brent Calloway last summer). I am guessing DB had to find his way on campus before spring for CNS to take him/give him a scholly. He may have to pay his own way this spring and summer and get his grades in order. If that is the case, his scholly spot will go to someone else but he will get to start learning the system and try to get a slot in next year's class.

Dixon signed the first day he could. I am pretty sure DB did not and that is when the articles started coming out that he may need some other class. Could be worng though

So, is it safe to assume that Belue will enroll at UA and perhaps have a year like Duron Carter? Duron will have one year to play one and is qualified after tomorrow, correct?

Well that is great news indeed! Although, I assume he will go to the league directly after this year if he stays at Bama. Is there a concern that he may not stay with us?

Also, what is the story on Belue? Will he be allowed to enroll if he has a hiccup like Duron did?

No, I meant he could go pro after next season, he could technically go pro now but would not likely be drafted. He is at Bama and will play at least next year barring an unforeseen issue.

Good deal...yes, he will be our best option next year at wideout and we'll uncover the star in him. Thanks for the info Chop.

Re: CB Deion Belue Set to Enroll at 'Bama (Update: Page 4)

If he redshirted, why not 3 years?
played one at ohio state as true freshman 09, played another at JUCO, 10. Redshirt this season, 11. Eligible to play in 12 and 13

thats 5 years to play 4. if he uses his entire eligibility he will have been at bama for 3 years and played 2.

He will have 2 for 2, if he stays and gets in a full academic year with passing grades. I know his dad made some remark about being eligible after tomorrow, but I don't know where that's coming from. He took no credits from OSU, he didn't graduate from CCC and a rescue attempt with correspondence courses didn't work, so that means one full academic year. He will not have fulfilled that requirement after tomorrow...

I think what CC meant about him being eligible after tomorrow is that bama's season is over and DC will be able to play (or should) the next time bama takes the field. Since he should be able to continue practicing this spring and should be in the A day game. Though he won't officially be eligible until he's put in a year of classes.

Re: CB Deion Belue Set to Enroll at 'Bama (Update: Page 4)

I noticed that Scout ( Bamamag) now has Belue listed as an Bama Commit. I don't believe any of the sites has him listed as a ccommit.
