I agree, unless he was just so impressive they couldn't help but put him on the field. I think he will contribute similarly to what Corey Grant will bring to the table, so I think he would be one step behind Grant, thus redshirting.
Besides C Grant you also have B Sims and D White who came in last year. All can play the slot and be all purpose type of players.

I've seen several Vols say that Douglas has gotten down to about 250 pounds, but I'd find it hard to believe Saban would take a JUCO LT who's that light.

Anyone heard anything about Douglas' weight? I know he was recruited as a TE out of HS, so he might have a lean frame.

I was wondering if he may be tried at TE. If he moves well and has the hands, size would just help with the running game.

Most of the Vol fans that I have seen on the Internet are literally livid about Douglas ending up at Bama. I would post a link or two but their comments are way over the top offensive. Don't believe a word of what they are saying about Douglas. He is listed as 6'6" 290 lbs and when he gets to Bama and into the fourth quarter program he will for sure end up over 300 lbs by the time he hits the field next season. I am sure he will play tackle and not TE.

I don't know much about his career at UT, but I image if he made the move to OT as a freshman and has been playing there ever since, there is little chance of him moving back to TE. Also, I believe our TE situation is looking pretty good for 2011 with Williams and Smelley.

Weight was an issue at UT. He was a TE (great hands) and a good basketball player in HS, and thinks of TE as his natural position, but as has been said, Saban is not likely taking a JUCO tackle if he isn't at least near playing weight.

I should send this to the "sappy Christmas letter" thread. Makes me feel warm inside.

I see A. Douglas at guard next season just because of his size. He is listed at 285 on Arizona Western's roster but recent pictures of him look to me that he is near the 265-270 range. But he could end up going through Coach Cochran's workout plan and turn to a massive 300 pound lineman. If not, he will still be extremely valuable either in the guard slot or possibly at tight end. I just read this on one of the Vols boards on what his CC coach had to say about him:
Tide looking at former Tennessee OTFormer Tennessee star freshman offensive tackle Aaron Douglas, who is now at Arizona Western, is getting a close look from the Tide staff.
"We're hoping that Alabama is going to take him," Minnick says. "I think chances are pretty good that Alabama is going to give him a serious look, because the kid is awfully good. He's a talent. The only thing is that I wish he'd get bigger. He's almost skinny. He's 6-5, 275 pounds. But he has great feet. He does great things."
"After he talked to Coach McElwain, Alabama jumped on the list," Minnick says. "You know he grew up a big Tennessee fan hating Alabama, but after he talked to Coach Mac that kind of changed."
Douglas will graduate next December and have two years to play.

The more talent you have on the team from top to bottom the less likely you will have a freshman starting or contributing significantly. But when they see the field for the first time the more likely they will be prepared and ready to contribute as well as be successful. Of course we all know that as well as most of the smart commits, prospects.

Many UT followers had poor things to say of Aaron. I dispelled most to sour grapes. Alabama has some good talent trying to win a starting spot on the O line. Douglas will not have an unlimited amount of chances to become a part of the rotation. I can't see coach Saban allowing a player to earn the left tackle spot if he is unreliable.

I wish the best for Aaron in his future wherever it may take him.
