I just don't see how JPW being the QB could have that much effect on Julio..

1 - DJ broke all kinds of records with JPW at QB and 2 - he'll only be there his true freshman year...i know julio will most likely play right away, and maybe only hopes to be there three years...but still JPW will only be his QB for one year.

Now why on earth would you go & bring logic & facts into this?!?!? ;)

Seriously, that is a good point..JPW has not been a QB who puts up MAJOR numbers, but he has been directly responsible for DJ's success & has played well in spurts...& the fact that he will only be there 1 yr. along with the incoming QB's/back-ups has to be weighed if he is considering the QB in hus decision.

I love the ability of some people to get in others' minds.....wish I had that ability :cool2:

Re: WORRIED WITH LESTER/JONES VISITING fsu???

There is almost a certainty that we will have one or more defections by NSD.
How can any player be a firm commit and still take other visits? I believe though that the staff recognizes this and plan for it.

Re: WORRIED WITH LESTER/JONES VISITING fsu???

According to TI, Julio will visit F$U this weekend, Florida on 1/18 and Oklahoma on 1/25. He has a visit scheduled at Texas Tech on 2/1 although his high school coach said he does not know if he will take the trip.

The high school coach said Lester does not have a visit scheduled to F$U this week and that Lester is a solid Alabama commitment.

Re: WORRIED WITH LESTER/JONES VISITING fsu???

i wouldn't worry about lester...

IMO..with julio i think it's a UA/OU battle..
I'm not really worried about anyone at this point. It would seem Alabama is in a good enough position that several 3 and 4 star players are on the outside looking in, even Julio as great as he is will not make or break this class. This isn't like Andre a few years back in which it seemed like he could make or break the class. With Andre (and Ford) Alabama ended up with 2,127 points (did Rivals change their points system because in 2007 about half as many teams had 2000 points) and was 11th.

This year Alabama has
2,444 points (the most points Rivals has any Alabama team listed at) which is also high enough to net them top 6 in any year since 2002. So, in the end I'm not at all worried about any of these guys anymore. Of course I want Julio to come and I'd like Alabama to finish strong but no matter what they'll end up with one of their best classes ever and it will be full of guys that want to play football for Alabama.

Perhaps more importantly I don't think Saban will spend a evening crying at a player's home...

Just curious - do you think committed players call their recruiting coaches and tell them they're going to visit other schools? I can imagine a conversation going like this:

Lester: "Hi coach, this is Robert Lester. I just wanted to let you know I still love Bama and all, but I'm going to visit Freeshoes U this weekend."

Coach: "Oh hey Robert.....going to visit Freeshoes U, huh?"

Lester: "Yeah, Julio and I are going to go down together. We're just going to look around, you know, check it out?"

Silence.......

Coach: "Robert, can I call you back. I have another call coming in on the other line from a Safety recruit that wants to talk".

Personally, I would rather Lester go with JJ than JJ go alone to FSU. While I think JJ is obviously his own man and will make his decision accordingly, the presence of another young man who has already committed to UA may influence JJ while he's there.

Plus, as someone noted earlier, FSU is not in a real strong position right now with all the off-field trouble there and the obvious positioning in preparation for Bowden's retirement.

There is no link. Someone on the Rivals Recruiting Board posted that JJ said that. But I'm pretty sure the guy didn't have a link either. I even think it was a Tennessee fan.

So what we have is a 12 page thread about a quote that an 18 year old more than likely didn't even say.:rolleye2:

These guys get treated like kings when they go on recruiting visits. Why wouldnt you take every possible visit?
Because they really care about the team?

I suppose there are two ways of dealing with it.
A: You live it up, you wait until signing day to announce, you do as many visits as possible and basically try to get as much attention and have a good time.
B: You are more businesslike. You choose your team relatively early after careful consideration. You then show your loyalty to said school be not doing any more visits and focus on putting your energy into swaying other recruits into joining you (for the record this could be a defense to visiting another school alongside another recruit).

Obviously I respect the B approach more, I think a player who has made up their mind should start "playing" for their new team as soon as possible. Silent commits bother me because they could be working harder to sway others to go to the school but instead they seem to be focused on getting attention. I might do the same in their position though, but it still bothers me a bit...
