Not a bad take on the situation. It's pretty easy to say almost anything you want to say on our boards without breaking any of our rules. Bayoutider has pointed it out numerous times, but in many cases it's not WHAT you say, but HOW you say it that we usually have a problem with. For an example see below:

GOOD: "John Brown sure is playing tentatively as our new LB. I would like to see him be much more agressive on the snap and make some more tackles. Hopefully as he gains experience, he'll improve in this area. Coach Jimmy Jones may need to give him some extra reps during practice to make sure he knows the scheme."

BAD: "John Brown ain't worth a crap. Anyone see him miss that tackle that allowed Cow U. to score? If I were the coach, he would never see playing time again. Speaking of coaching, how many times are we going to allow Coach Jimmy Jones to stand there and do nothing to John Brown? I would fire his butt in a heartbeat if he can't do any better than that. Just because we beat Cow U 65-7 doesn't mean I'm ever going to be satisfied...THIS IS ALABAMA after all...we should NEVER be satisfied with anybody for any reason!"

See the difference?
Oh no! we made another coaching change??? LOL:biggrin2: Just reading the words "we beat Cow U 65-7" makes me feel good. heck beating the barn 7-6 would be just as good at this point.

In some instances, the mainstream media runs message boards. (ex. Tuscaloosa News). I think the shock jocks and other media types who peruse the boards do so to get a feel for what we, their consumers, are thinking.

Then their decision is:

a) Side with us and expouse our thinking
b) Stir us up and promote the opposite
c) Simply say, "most fans tend to think that Saban will..."

As far as trade secrets, I think few if any will be gleened from message boards.

You're giving this place way to much credit... it's a fan forum for fan discussion. Nothing more, nothing less.

And if I had a nickel for every time I heard some variation of "Slimebaum" or something to that effect, I'd be richer than anything. I get a kick out of the pure hatred for the guy, considering all he's done for the last 4 months since the hiring of Saban is grovel at his feet.

any member of the media who is building stories, "news", or any other info for the masses based on this or any other board is not any media member who i care to listen to/read. with the exception of a few, this board is merely the "fan in the stands".....and how many times have you wanted to smack the guy next to you in the stands????

I'm not nearly as concerned about reporters reading the board as I am about rival fans...doesn't take much to make a rival's locker room b/4 a big game! :BigA:

I dont think I have said anything on hear that I wouldn't say anywhere else; With or without reporters and the like present. I could care less what others like or dislike or what they want to use for or against me.

If any media persons are reading this:

I hate Phil Fulmer! He is a back-stabbing low-life that serves himself only! He had only one course of action for beating Bama and that was to try and destroy it. It did not work and the wrath of many will be his fate soon enough! BTW...if you continuosly write/say bad stuff about Bama, I will hate you too. I will not hate you in the good way like many do with Finebaum, and listen to see what demoralizing thing you will say/write next. I will simply hate with a passion for life while exercising my right to not listen/read your material!

I just don't see a coach showing their team a post saying, "LOOK WHAT bmcklv said about you!11!1! omgz!1!!!!"
Not a single post, but a gameday thread dissing the team would be a possibility. Croom jumped all over the JJ remarks last year to pump up MSU. There's just as good a possibility that a coach could use a flaming thread (especially on such a knowledgeable board as TF :) )for the same purpose.

Guys... this is one subject that is a non-issue. If opposing players can "get up" enough to beat someone based on an internet message board comment, then we are not prepared as well as we should. Also, the exact same thing could happen the other way around... suppose Bama coaches get on a rival fan board and spew venom, and then makes copies to hand out to players.

As Brett reinforced several months back, TideFans is a discussion board... and when you have true discussion, you can't just discuss the positive... but the negative also.

If opposing players & coaches have to use it for motivation, it says a lot about that team... sad things at that. Just like someone mentioned regarding John's statements positively affecting MSU last year... if we'd been prepared as we should have been, it would NEVER have been a factor past the first play of the game.

There was that little interview with Nick Saban before the Bama game back in 2002 which was started by a LSU student on a message board as a prank. That prank quickly got regional attention and finally filtered into the Bama athletic department. Results, Bama - 31, LSU - 0 in Baton Rouge.

I agree with your thoughts...We did not lose because of a player remark to MSU. But you ask TiM-every Bulldog fan believes it contributed! That's what I meant to say earlier, but guess it was poorly worded. Rival fans will take anything and spread it like wildfire 'among their brethren'. No, fans do not play on the field-I just like to hold what I think I knowclose to the vest! :BigA:

I tend to think that the only time message boards really make a gameday difference is when someone with inside knowledge about an injury, suspension, or the like, spills it on a forum. Other than that, everything you read on boards is already known by the opposing teams...

In general the boards , if run properly:wink:, offer a slice or peek into the morale or mood of the fan-base . To a degree , you can get a feel or measure of fan support . Other than that , I don't think you'll be stumbling across the location of the Maltese Falcon on on any message boards .
