Kevin Steele's name was mentioned twice last night on the coverage I saw concerning discussion about the coaching staff Saban will put together.

My understanding is that Steele is one of the best recruiters in college football. I don't know a lot about him other than we was the head coach with the Carolina Panthers before he went to F$U and he is very highly regarded as a recruiter.

I read a couple of years ago that he will get serious consideration for the head coaching job at F$U when Bowden retires. If Jimbo Fisher goes to F$U that could change though.

Steele was never HC of the Panthers.

Pretty smooth move considering the FSU game is going to be a huge game next year.

Steele should have a lot of insight for that game.

When are we going to hear something definite on this one? Maybe on Finebaum today? The last time we hired a LB coach that learned under Mickey Andrews that went pretty well. ;) And I will go ahead and say it, are we going to start calling our defense the Steele curtain defense?

He seems highly qualified. Linebacker coach for Tom Osbourne during Nebraska's glory years, and held the same position at Carolina when they were good. Former head coach at Baylor. The only bad thing about him is that he is a Vol, but I can get over that.:biggrin2:

It looks like this is his first defensive coordiantor gig.

Bobby can't let him take Mickey's title. The guy "Belue" radio talk host and FSU alumn is saying Steele is done deal and now we are waiting on Jimbo. He is blasting FSU for letting it happen and calling for the AD's head if they let Jimbo get away from FSU.

Now they are saying Trickett (sp) OL coach at WVA is going to FSU and Radio station 620 in Tampa is saying that Fisher has accepted FSU OC job. As a side note they are saying Chuck Amato is going to be FSU's LB coach. He used to coach there before.

A Tallahassee TV station is reporting that Saban has offered the DC to FSU linebackers coach Kevin Steele.
A source at SECTalk.com says he's pretty much taken the job. Joe Kines will most likely remain in Tuscaloosa as the Director of Football Operations or in a different coaching position of defense. I say he should take a "higher ups" job like the DFO. He's 62 and he had a great run. I'm gonna miss him.

Wow, this is very exciting news. Think back to some of the great FSU teams and one thing I recall is they always had tough linebackers that would knock the crap out of you. There's nothing more de-motivating to a running back than getting your bell rang a few times.

It's about time UA returned to the days of Cornelius and Derrick.
