Why do I feel like we just turned the keys to our prized Bugatti and Ferrari over to two foreign exchange permit student drivers. Maybe they are the andrettis or maybe they are the kardashians, only time will tell but boy oh boy what a heck of a ride it’s going to be.

What can I say? I mean it's all positive that Golding's gone. For sure. But Steele as DC? I'm not that enthused but I can't say 100% it's all terrible. I just expected more esp. in coordination with the OC hire. I'm not too impressed. Perhaps we are on our way back down to being an above average team. I'm not a fan of that. But we'll see. They've got to prove it to me.

What’s the word on Steele as a recruiter?
I copied and pasted this from from Jess N. article pinned at the top of this page. This is what Jess had to say before the announcement was made.

“New name: Kevin Steele, DC, Miami (Fla.): This would be the ultimate “handoff hire” if Alabama was eventually looking to install Jeremy Pruitt in the spot. Steele has worked for Nick Saban twice before, and he’s long been considered one of the best recruiters Saban has had. He was mentioned the last two times Auburn had a head coaching vacancy, and he’s always in the mix when an SEC team needs a coordinator. But his recent results have been scattershot at best, and last year’s statistics at Miami were horrendous: 54th in rushing defense, 65th in total defense, 80th in pass defense and 102nd in pass efficiency defense. Steele would be hired for two reasons above the others: Nick Saban is familiar with him, and it wouldn’t be hard to swap him to an off-field position if or when Jeremy Pruitt became available. The latter is literally the only reason to make this hire, because Steele’s best days are probably behind him, and it’s hard to imagine him being a step up from Pete Golding. It would also create a potential issue with the makeup of the staff, as Steele has never coached defensive backs before, meaning Austin Armstrong would probably have to take on that role, or Alabama would have to replace Coleman Hutzler at outside linebackers coach with another defensive backs coach.”

I was hoping for Schumann or Leonard but they didn’t work out. KS knows defense, the Bama culture, and more importantly the SEC and coaches in the HS ranks. I think it’s a stop gap but I’m far more confident in KS and his ability to call a game than I ever was PG. just remember that there are many many many schools and fans that would love to have Bama’s “problems”.

I think it’s a stop gap also but I think a lot of Bama fans are gonna be pleasantly surprised.

Not the guy i was expecting, but i do remember Steele having some pretty good Auburn defenses, even though they weren't loaded with talent.
