Yes that happened.

And he also held Burrow to 23 points years later.

He also beat Alabama TWICE as a DC, holding us to 14 points once and beating us with two pick sixes the other time.

I'm not saying he's the next Buddy Ryan but he's better than PG, who made me say R-rated things.

Just out of curisioty all of you who have coached on the SEC football level please raise your hands. We all have opinions but I am far from qualified in making the comment Steele is th wrong man. The defense we put on the field , well the play calling for the last 2 years was less than IDEAL. I am glad he has filled both positions and we just need to move on and support the team

I missed this; I did not expect it and personally don’t like it.
Both LSU and the Barn had very good defenses before he took either job - have always have good defenses
He is (was) a great recruiter. Maybe Saban holds the defensive reigns a little tighter this year. If he doesn’t, 2023 defense won’t surpass 2022. In any category.
Unless KS has suddenly become a top ten DC, I will enter next season with low expectations. If he has I will gladly recant and repent.

Kirby defense once gave up 302 yards to an fcs Georgia southern team.

Also kirby once gave up 45 in the playoff to Ohio states 3rd team qb.

Golding shut down Mike leaches offense every single year.

Those are outliers.

My biggest concern with Steele is his age. Hiring a 64 year old DC creates a couple of concerns. 1) How well can he communicate with and teach the young kids today? 2) is he going to be a guy who thinks too much about what worked in the past as opposed to what will work in the future? With both of these hires it appears Saban wants very much to go back to the style of football Alabama played 8-10 years ago. That was indeed a good time for Alabama football but the game is constantly changing. I think of an old saying used in the investment world that goes "Past performance is no guarantee of future results".

Hes always been a great recruiter. Not quite goldings level but pretty close. Not a big drop off there.

I'm 63 so I'm almost as old as Steele, but I know I'd have problems communicating with today's kids. I also have a tendency to think more about the past than the future. I keep thinking about the "good old days" as opposed to the way things are now.

It may not have been my pick, however the guy who gets paid 10 mil and hates to lose seems to think this is the best way and I have great faith in him. However you choose to view these hires they a huge upgrade from what we had.

There is no evidence whatsoever to suggest these hires are “huge” upgrades over what we had…

Wasn't it reported part of the reason he left before was because he didn't like working for Saban or something similar? Maybe he thinks the kinder and gentler Saban will be okay.

I stand by my comment. He was just horrible enough to play for two NCs and win one.

Now I'm not by any means saying "Steele equals Saban" as only a fool would say that. But things happen, too. Sometimes the gap between 1 and 20 is 2 ppg.
