Of course not. Everybody knows the universe was working against Tennessee this past weekend.:p
Kiffin should stop mouthing off, but he won't - CFB News - FOX Sports on MSN
Kiffin went so far as to blame the cosmos for the UCLA loss. "The ball just didn't bounce our way," he said. "They had some good karma working for them with those fumbles. I don't know of anybody who has six fumbles and five of them bounce back."
Um, coach, you didn't just think that, you actually said it out loud.
Bash me for this...

I see nothing what so ever in the quoted statement that is just so ridiculous.

"The ball just didn't bounce our way" - ok....where is that material to bash him?

"They had some good karma working for them with those fumbles. I don't know of anybody who has six fumbles and five of them bounce back" - I don't see anything there worth writing an article talking about his mouth.

I'm sure the Acting Prez is wondering if he remembered the lecture. That's got to give gray hairs...
I don't see Kiffin in the wrong here either. The i-prez is the one that made this public. That should have been private, IMO.

The i-prez also made it known that he thinks UCLA is a superior academic university to TN....yet he was the one saying Kiffin needed to consider the reputation of the university.

For the record...I have no idea which one is better academically

Two things, first I enjoy your post and insight very much. I am so glad you are a regular on this board and I think your being here this long is testimate to the fact that TFs is a great site that promotes debate and not smack. Just remember as long as you are going to be here defending TN you are going to have your hands full and you're fighting a losing battle.

Secondly, many of us see that as whinning and excuse making. The reason is we lived through a four year period of being told over and over how "close" we were. There was an excuse every week about how "the ball just didn't bounce our way" or "we didn't get any breaks today", etc... and that we were "just so close". So yes, to us it just sounds like another Mike Shula making excuses.

For the record...what made the i-prez think or say that UCLA is a superior academic university to TN? If I were a UT alum that comment would .... me off. Good thing he is interim.

NO I wouldn't bash you for that since I agree for the most part. Those comments wouldn't look bad coming from any other coach. But, since this is bash Kiffin week, every writer who has any issue with him is going to nitpick anything he says. That's not to say I feel bad for him either. He's just reaping what he's sown since he arrived at Tennessee.

If I were any stripe of prez at all and a juvenile HC I'd tried to admonish before - and made it public, in case he didn't really understand - started talking about needles at pressers, in today's anti-enhancer climate, I'd tear my hair out. Good on you for defending your guy. Surely you fatigue... :D

It's just very un-head-coach-like to talk about players injury or medical treatments. It happens with every team but is so seldom mentioned in the press.
Interestingly, at least one blogger has blamed the failure of Tenn's running game on the center's inability to control the UCLA DTs.

So apart from possibly violating player privacy laws, he's announced to the world that they should blitz right up the middle.

As long as it's not openly advertised and the player isn't being abused to the extent of say .... Travis Carroll , I cannot find any issue to debate . Well , until kitty kiff gifted one :)

This is a great site!

I understand what you are saying in your second paragraph and see where you are coming from now.

For the record...what made the i-prez think or say that UCLA is a superior academic university to TN? If I were a UT alum that comment would .... me off. Good thing he is interim.
I am not an alum. I don't like the fact it was made public.

True...and regardless of what he does from here on out he has the rep of being a big mouth. Even if he never said another word.

Doing the best I can :)

I don't agree with the people that say if this were any other coach this would be a non-issue. Can you imagine Urban Meyer saying, "Yeah, we just shot Tebow up and put him back in there." The national media wouldn't be able to stop talking about it. Imagine if CNS had said it? Every show on ESPN (including the baseball and basketball shows) would be in meltdown for a full week. Really, just name any high profile coach and someone would be talking about it.

Having said that, I'm not going to villanize Kiffin or his staff for doing what they did. Everyone does it and anyone who knows anything about football players and how they play through pain knows it too. You just don't SAY it if you're a coach, especially of a school like Tennessee. This continues to show Kiffin can't control what comes out of his mouth. I'm sure we'll hear in a couple of weeks, though, about how he planned it all along to get more of that wonderful publicity! ;)

You guys feel like ESPN jumps all over Bama anytime they get a chance?

That is definitely feeling we have about UT and ESPN. It has been like that since Woodson robbed the Heisman from Manning :)

I still think Manning should have won!...irrelevant this many years later :)

Well I'm not talking just about Bama here, although we do generate our share of media attention (wanted and unwanted). But I'm mainly referring to the combination of Bama with Nick Saban. Ever since he spurned Miami for us, ESPN can't wait to take another shot at him whenever they can.
