KW, SEC POTY candidate.........Maybe so! LOL (sorry guys!)

In fact, I'd say KW is about the 3rd most likely candidate on our team. I think that CD will be first team all SEC, and Shelton will compete for 1st team, maybe second team.........

But.......i'm starting to feel like KW is really Rod Grizzard reincarnate.......

Where is his ability to "take over a game"????

I've seen CD do it, i've seen ES do it.......

I'm a bit disappointed, because he hasn't shown up yet........against a top flight team.......yes, he had 20+ against Syracuse.......but, he didn't take over, it was a joint effort of Pettway, ES, CD and KW.......

sorry, i was disappointed in his play last night......he disappears......

that team was no defensive slouch. In addition, the foul-calling felt more like their home court than a neutral court, particularly in the first half. I think KW relies on ES, whether he realizes it or not, to give him "head space" - room for his shot creation ability to gain traction. When ES was not in the game, they really tightened up on KW and he did not respond. Instead, he got frustrated. Also, allowing for personnel differences, those teams are mirror-images. Both coaches are UCLA-philosophy steeped, having been assistants there together and they are close friends who talk all the time and help each other, so the resemblances are no accident. All that being said, if each team shoots its normal game, we win 9 of 10. NR is going to get his 3s, but they had guys knocking them down who had hardly even shot any this year. I haven't looked at the boxes yet, but I know our 3-pt. game was off and our number of shots was way below our average - credit their defense. It was interesting that NR, who'd harrassed the other PGs in their first two games to tears, respected Steele too much to try to press him. Whether that was his choice or Romar's instructions, I don't know...

I guess your comments in regards to KW are precisely my point. A POTY candidate should be able to make is own shot......most of the time. To rely on a 2 guard to get you "shot space" is an indication to me that his heart isn't really into is all the time.

When he wanted to make a move, he seemed to do it........but that was only a few times in the game......

The guys that eventually become POTY players......have to take over a game with their own ability..........

I'm not...

argueing with you at all - more adding to what you said. I don't know what the problem is. I think he's healthier than last year (although we don't really know that yet), but, so far, he's not accomplishing with his play what he did last year. Oh well, it'll be interesting to see if conference play makes a difference. It shouldn't, of course...

Didn't think you were arguing....... I'm ready to take that next step forward, and KW is a huge key to that happening........

I just remember thinking about last year........if we could have coupled AP's heart with ES's shot, and KW's overall game.......well, I guess we'd have had Jordan.......LOL......

nevermind, I just wrote myself into a corner.......

I'm not disappointed in them losing........but I was disappointed in Kennedy's inability to win that game.......

to me it just shows......he's not worthy of his current accolades.......

The "t" was the turning point from my point of view. It cut into Sheltons playtime, when he could have been scoring instead of sitting. Winston was alittle off his normal game, but hell, it's early and was... a all in all... learning experience. jmho.

More I see of Webber and Fleix(sp) the more I like them.

The "T"...

might have been deserved - I didn't see his protest. However, the original foul was a farce. You can draw a foul by initiating contact with your butt. However, it's impossible, physically, to do it while running forward. ES sensed the presence of the jerk behind him and slowed up. He's entitled to do so. He's entitled to do so while sticking out his butt, if he so desires. The following player has to avoid contact. It's exactly like the auto rules of the road. You hit a guy from behind, and it's your fault. End of story. Forget wet streets, he stopped too fast, etc., etc. You have to control your vehicle. Likewise, on the court, you have to control your body. I turned to my wife last night, and said "That lousy call just cost us the game." Our team should have been able to rise above it - but they didn't...

This criticsm of Kennedy Winston is just insane. Kennedy had surgery in the offseason, he still isn't 100 percent. KW still has about 20 pounds to lose, give the guy a little time! Good lord, even Gottfried said he wouldn't be 100 percent by the beginning of the season.

Though i do hate losses, no team goes undefeated. Alabama needed this loss. Washington exposed the weaknesses i saw over the past few weeks. We've been playing terrible defense on the perimeter, and it appears we can't handle the full court press very well.

This team SHOULD and WILL be ready by SEC play.

I gurantee this Washington club wins the PAC-10 if they stay healthy.

And last, all this talk about KW for POTY is purely talk, KW is not ready to take on such a challenge. Should KW come back next year, then we can talk about it over the summer...but lets take this burden off his shoulders, he simply isn't ready. KW is definatly one of the top 10 players in the SEC, outside of that, i don't know.

I can...

certainly agree with KW being in a two-deep All-SEC at this point. However, there's nothing wrong with mild disappointment in his game so far. I'm sure he's more disappointed than we. That's what these boards are for - to dissect performance, officiating etc. Last year, KW was playing better when his knee was being drained before and after each game. The knee is not the story this year, sor far...

Lose 20 lb?

20 lb?? He doesn't look like it. He needed to gain a little weight anyway. Maybe lose 5-10 lb and get in better BB condition.

Yes he has flab all over him, he didn't get to workout over the summer due to the injury, so naturally he isn't going to be as fit as he was last year. As the season progresses, i'm sure he'll build up that quickness and strength he had last year.

KW overweight

I'm aware of that. The BB team has been practicing about a month now. KW has lost some of the weight he gained over the summer/early fall. Just seems like losing 20 lb is a bit high at this point. Ah whatever.. :rolleye2:

We will...

see what we will see as to all of them. Too early in the season to make final judgements at this point, and I don't think any here have...

i disagree with you all

Kennedy Winston is a winner. He is on a completely different level than the other players. Last night, whenever we needed a shot to be made it was either he or Chuck that made it(or Shelton with the two steals). By the end of the year, he is the best player in the SEC.

I really think that

KW needs to shed some pounds. According to the pre-season reports he was up 30 lbs from a year ago, and obviously not all of the weight was gained pumping iron. Right now he doesn't seem to jump as well or be as quick as he was at the end of last year. But weight can be taken off, and if KW is successful here he could well be the POTY. Just think back on his strong performance in the second half of the SEC season and the post season. Considering that he was regularly having fluid drained off his knee last season his performance was astounding.

There's Still Time to Change Your Mind!

How quickly we forget our heroes past successes.... Kennedy won the player of the week award more time last year than and Tide cager in history, as a Sophomore.... I think his performances will improve as the year goes along. He carried us to the victory over Charlotte and don't look now but for the week ending December 4, 2004 the young man only averaged 28.5 ppg. Let's not be premature in predicting the demise of a twenty year old's career....

But, hindsight is also 20/20. Again.........I'm quite proud of his game play this week........but, can you say.......without out a doubt, that he's the best player on this team???

Some games, yes........some games, he may be the 3rd or 4th best.........

Jamereo stepped up huge tonight too........but, we're not ready to crown him the Heir Apparent to Shaq Diesel, either.......

I'm proud of KW, and I do think he potentially is the best thing this school has seen in a few years........but, my fear is........I don't want another RGRiz.....
