I have 2 concerns though.

1. There are a lot of absolute idiots out there that do not understand the nuances of self-defense and the how and why of this verdict. Afraid this could encourage more people to think vigilantism is OK.

2. I hope Rittenhouse does not get sucked into the seductive alt-right community that is making a hard sell for him right now.
Well, Matt Gaetz wants to offer him an internship, so he should be safe there.

Not really the time or place to go down the 'firearm definition rabbit-hole' but Rittenhouse didn't carry an 'assault rifle', which by definition is a rifle capable of automatic fire.

It was a small-caliber sporting rifle.
FWIW I believe it was a Smith and Wesson M&P 15. Yup, its a rabbit-hole to get into whether its an 'assult (style) rifle' .

Are you concerned that a minor might take a weapon across state lines to a celebration and start shooting?

Or maybe that they'll invade the nation's capitol and kill policemen?
Maybe they’ll occupy part of Kenosha and attempt to declare independence from the United States.

This obviously is my fear also. No matter whether or not the societal aftereffects are not what we want, an individual can't be punished for that reason. While I respect the verdicts of the jury, I think the facts could have supported the manslaughter verdict...

I haven’t really followed this, but it seems there could have been some charge brought that would have at least given someone pause prior to doing something stupid.

So, not only do cops get away with gunning people down, now right-wing conservative nut jobs can go somewhere to "protect and serve" and also gun people down in "self defense". This is just going to embattle all the other right wing nuts who think it is their god given right to police the streets against those libs.

We better hope and pray that this conservative movement of violence doesn't become better organized or the next insurrection attempt will spill a lot more blood.

Don't worry: They will always give the black 17 year old with an illegal firearm the same presumption of innocence as they did the white nutcase.

That may not be the reason for bringing a charge against an individual. Our criminal law does not allow prosecuting an individual (thank God) for the purpose of making an example out of him/her...

He was wanting some little known charge to hit him with so that his life would be ruined and give pause to anyone else who might be in a similar situation.

The irony of liberals who are totally fine with making up laws to convict people are worried that far right wing conservatives will use this as a launch pad for nonsense.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

I personally think the gun charge should have stuck. Pretty sure the spirit of the law was violated.

Some lazily drafted exceptions are what spared him that charge, and the judge was right to dismiss it.
