Mark Gottfried and the Tide

i am not questioning your intelligence. i said if you dont think there has been ANY improvement then you would be stupid and that goes for anyone it wasnt just directed at you. i havent taken any of this as a personal attack and im not tryin to attack you. i guess my main point is you cant build a 20 win team(every year) in just a few years. it takes time to build a dynasty.

I agree it takes time. IMO he has had 5 years and he improved the first 3, but these last 2 we've gone backward, (or at best no progress).

I don't believe he will be fired. I believe he will have a chance to prove me wrong and i hope he does. I don't see us competeing for the SEC year in year out and going to the sweet 16 year in year out (or at get close). That's what I expect, that's what we had in the late '80's early '90's and that is where i want to be again. is that too much to ask, i don't think so.

i got a feeling next year will be much better. ronald steele will make a BIG difference. he got the somewhat BIG guys this year but next year comes all the guards/shooters. i have alot of faith in CMG cuz he has done very well with very less.

I guess the really sad thing is, I believe there is more of an out cry for him to leave. I dont know how CMG gets labeled so bad, is it just the road losses? Why hasnt anyone commended him on his home dominance, his ability to recruit talent that are scholars and represent the University well. The ability to think of ways to get into the Tourny instead of fattening up on Mt. St. Marys like 90% of the teams in the country. CMG has developed a rep. for playing anybody anywhere. If Wimp were here we'd be playing NW Bluetick ST A&M until conference play. BTW did anyone notice we had the #1 SOS and #24 RPI?!!!!!!

Before saying we need to keep MG maybe some should talk to the players. I have and not all of them like his coaching skills. As for the regular season championship. Its regular season. We won it and got slapped in the face by Kent St.

Sometimes people act like Bama is THE only team that has players go to the NBA early. You do know this happens with other teams

I think it's coaching that keeps us where we are and from going farther but I am not ready to get rid of MG.

I honestly think he will get it done to most of our satisfaciton. It would not surprise me to see it done within the next couple years. Keep in mind there is lots of competition in the SEC.

Road games are tought on every SEC team.

i kno i dont post on here often and maybe that takes a cut at my credibility...anyway...recruiting doesn't win ball games. yes CMG is a great recruiter, but what do we have to show for it ultimately? yes we have won a conf. Championship and i ran out on the court with many of our crimson tide brethren in celebration, but we are faaaar from that in the next few years. as far as us having a young team, Tennessee has a young team, they are doing well, Maryland has a young team, Duke, Arizona, man we could go on...young teams win just as well as some veteran teams, and that is showing this year. as far as our dominance at home, maybe our team has just expected to win at home, we arent as stellar this year in CC. i enjoy this team, they have flashes of brilliance where i find myself thinking 'omg we can play with anyone', but then we have times, more often than not, like in the second half of the UK game last night, where we just look lost, running around the court. i just have to wonder what CMG is doing in practice to prepare. i DONT know and i realize i am in no position to speculate, but i am in every position to wonder. i guess bottom line, we have the talent to compete hard no matter who we play, and at times we do. but the foundation of our game seems to not change year in and year out. consistency is what i am looking for, and not negative consistency.

Next year may be better. Ronald Steele is an tremendous talent and has PG qualities. My question is how many of you will be saying the same thing next year. For example, will we be too young, if we only had pettway, if grizzard was still around. The excuses on this board is getting down right silly. CMG needs to do better. I believe he can become a good good coach, great one - jury's still out.

He needs to stop the deer in headlights look when the other team hits two in a row. The team looks to the sidelines and he's looking at them with the "I don't have a clue look".

Hey guys and gail, I hope the guy is a tremendous success and is at bama for a long long time. I just don't see it.

"Before saying we need to keep MG maybe some should talk to the players. I have and not all of them like his coaching skills."

This isn't the first time I've heard this.

And if you think about it, could explain why our talent takes off early.

Throw out all of that and consider what Rick Stansbury is doing at MSU. I'm sorry, but there is NO WAY MSU should be dominating our program.

We have not yet played MSU this year, so we'll have to look at past results. Based on that, MSU is not dominating our program. We split two games with them last season and darn near swept them. We both lost in the 1st round of the tourney.

They may only have one loss right now, but they have not yet taken the next step; we'll see if they can do that come March.
