lol. it didnt seem to boneheaded to me,look at the end result.did fights break out?was anyone shoved? none of the things you mentioned happened. bottom line is florida got dismantled and humiliated on national t.v. they didnt look so big and bad saturday afternoon. like i said we have endured far worse from them, they had it coming.
No it didn't go bad but could very easily have become mass mayhem if the Gators had poured out onto the field. They don't call this game the "world's largest outdoor cocktail party" for nothing. You can bet there were a bunch of drunks in the stands and their behavior is already bad and unpredictable to say the least.

The whole idea was for UGA to be "in your face" to the Gators.. It was bush league nothing more nothing less.

It was out of place, uncalled for and without a doubt the riskiest and DUMBEST thing a head coach of a major D1 school has ever endorsed and encouraged. If it had gone south with fights breaking out the fallout would have been tremendous. THE HEAD COACH ENCOURAGED IT for crying out loud!

One week CMR is keeping his players off of the Vanderbuilt logo. The next week he is encouraging his players to break the rules and be as provocative and unsportsmanlike as they possibly can be.

It was wrong and it had all of the potential to be terribly wrong.

if you think that florida is a classy program you are mistaken. the intent of the celebration was not to cause a altercation it was to send a message that we came to play. .
I guess I just expected Georgia to be more classy than UF. BTW, if you want to send a message that you came to play, do it between the wistles not after. I understand your hate toward UF but you must understand that your perception is your reality, not mine. Congrats on your win.

Those are fans, not the players. Different groups of people altogether.
believe me the florida players have done far worse in the past especially under spurrier,i seem to remember a certain alabama reciever taunting some florida fans back in 05 with the gator chomp, i believe it was d.j. hall.

Here's my problem. When a coach encourages the bench to take the field, events are unpredictable from that point on. Since it was the first drive, I think the UF bench was stunned, more than fired up. However, it could have happened that the UF bench would have emptied to answer the challenge. It easily could have ended in a mass brawl and ejections, even a forfeiture (by GA). It was an irresponsible act, and this argument being presented that it hyped up his team and helped them to when, well, hell, shooting them up with meth might have helped them win also. There are a lot of tactics against the rules which help win. I used to have respect for Richt. Never again...

I'll assure you that it wasn't coach encouraged. That's the difference. I'll say this, if CMR wants his players to act like the old U of M Hurricanes thats his business and UG fans should get ready for the rest of the world to hate them. Its just the way the rock rolls.

The OFFICIAL story

http://ching-athens.blogspot.com/

Not surprisingly, Mark Richt heard from SEC commish Mike Slive about Saturday's touchdown celebration against Florida. He sent an apology letter to the league office this afternoon, cc'd to Damon Evans and Michael Adams, which the University forwarded to Georgia media.

The text of the letter is as follows:

"Dear Commissioner Slive:

As a followup to our telephone discussion earlier today, I do want to apologize in writing for what transpired after the first score of the Georgia/Florida game this past Saturday when our entire team left the bench area to celebrate the score. If you would again allow me to explain my thought process, I would appreciate it.

Two weeks ago when our preparation began for the Florida game I told the team that we have got to have more energy and enthusiasm in this ballgame or we are going to get whipped pretty good. I said, as a matter of fact, when we score our first touchdown, I expect you guys to celebrate to the point where the official will throw a flag for excessive celebration. I admit this was inappropriate. What I had envisioned was for the eleven guys on the field to celebrate the score. On the day of the game I re-emphasized to the team that this was not going to be an individual celebration, but a team celebration. Again, I was expecting the eleven players on the field to be doing the celebrating, not for the bench to clear as it did. I understand that the entire team running on the field created the potential for an altercation and that excessive celebration is not in compliance with the Southeastern Conference sportsmanship policies and expected standards. My only intention was to create enthusiasm.

I apologize that I put everyone in that situation and specifically apologize to you, the Southeastern Conference, and the University of Florida. You can be assured I will not ask our team to do this type of thing again.

Sincerely,
Mark Richt"

IMO - the most Classless and Dangerous act of the whole game was the running tackle blind side cheap shot late hit of Stafford while he was kneeling and clearly down after the play. If Penn Wagers had any cahunas - that guy shoulda been thrown out of the game.

Somebody boot this guy, please. Half of his posts are okay, the other half are taunting about the same way UGA did in that game. BTW, nice heckling videos on YouTube from UGA fans.
