Re: I guess Shula gets the blame......

We're all "imbalanced"! Our life on Saturday revolves around people tossing an oblong inflated hide around a field or trying to kick it through a goal.
It's all relative.

Damn--that last one was three syllables, wasn't it?

Re: Blame Shula for this one, too?/Leave CMS alone and let it play out? (merged)

I sort of think that the people that want CMS's head on a platter now are the one's that didn't want him in the first place.
Well, I don't want his head on a platter, but I think that he has had a chance to make changes and ignored those opportunities. At his level, I don't think that you give out free passes. I firmly believe that Alabama would be better served searching for a new HC.

That having been said, I was happy with the Shula hire. I knew that he wouldn't run from the heat. I had no idea how good a HC he might turn out to be, but we needed stability at the time.

I'll bet you thought that post was about you, don't you? :)

Re: I guess Shula gets the blame......

Completely pass over my reply.
As far as Stallings teams, they were more talented but I never said that they were significantly so now you are putting words into my mouth. As of today, you are crazy if you do not believe that LSU, UT and Florida aren't more talented than we are. Their starters have a great deal more experience than ours. Tell me, which one of those teams that you mentioned have a true freshman starting on the o-line, a sophmore center and two players from defense starting on thier o-line?

If you don't have as much talent as the next guy...you outwork him. now..honestly can you say that the coaches or the players have outworked anybody this season?

Didn't really think about it. I was responding to the general statement...

I dont blame Shula for this loss. Shula didnt make JPW fumble inside the red zone. Hes just a young QB thats going to make mistakes. Shula didnt make JPW throw an interception. Shula didnt make JC miss a 49 yard field goal in a windy stadium. The oline played better than they have all year. The onside kick caught LSU completely off-guard. The defense could have covered receivers better in the first half...but I think LSU's talent had a hand in that. This game made me feel like we have a chance at beating AU. Whereas last weekend I believed we had no chance. Oh yeah, and some guy named Ken Darby scored a touchdown!

I'm caving in and joining the "Fire Shula" club. I would also strongly encourage the following firings as well.

1) Fire Defense Coordinator - our D couldn't stop LSU from scoring.

2) Fire Strength and Conditioning coach - we need to be taller and more ripped.

3) Fire all tailbacks - we'll load up on wide receivers and be just fine.

4) Fire all freshmen - they need too much time to learn.

5) Fire the field goal - it's in the wrong place most of the time.

6) Fire sunshine pumpering fans - we're better off with just us belly achers.

Sounds fair right? Who's with me!!!!

Firing Kines is a good idea. Our defense looks good in light of how horrible our offense plays. Our defense CANNOT make the big stop when it needs to. LSU's first two drives showed just what a defensive genius Kines is.Not to mention those great adjustments he made at half-time. And 3 years ago would have been a great time to fire him, right after that 4th and 19 play where Tennesse made the first down and beat us in overtime.

Our guys played hard tonight and Shula listened to some of his critics(regardles of what he says) or he let somebody else call the plays. But, it's too late. He will be here through next year and then he will go after inflicting further damage to this once great football program. Sad, sad, sad.
For the love of God please tell me you're trying to be sarcastic!?! Maybe you've just done too good a job of disguising it or maybe it's some new form of sarcasm I'm not yet familiar with, in either case please tell me that's what it was.

Re: I guess Shula gets the blame......

Boy Tommy, that took a long time for you to come up with! You weren't singing that tune last year when we were 10-2.
I didn't "come up" with anything. I was a teen-ager during Ear's tenure and I've had doubts about Shula since tghe Arkansas game his first year when he wouldn't go for the 1st down on 4th and 1 inside their 40. The running game had been clicking all night and we had a chance to take complete charge of the game at that point, but Mike punted instead. Great, or even good coaches recognize when those moments come up in a game.

Any "tunes" I was singing last season were mostly in praise of our defense and KD's running without benefit of an effective O-line.

Re: I guess Shula gets the blame......

Just curious TMac.

1. Have you thought this since he was hired?

2. Did you think this last year when we started 10-0?

3. If no to #2 then when did you think we should have never hired him?

4. If Shula is fired should Kines not be offered a job by the next coach?

5. Before the season what did you think our record would be?
1. I was leery of hiring a HC with not only no HC experience, but NO college experience at all. David Shula had already proved that coaching ability is not genetic.

2. We were never 10-0. I was realistic enough to realize that we were riding a very special defense.

3. See #1.

4. The next HC would have to make that decision and go with whoever he feels most comfortable with. Personally, I'd like to see CJK stay.

5. I thought that if JPW panned out, 8 or 9 wins were reasonable expectations.

Re: Blame Shula for this one, too?/Leave CMS alone and let it play out? (merged)

Let me say first and foremost that my post will be probably get deleted; it's what I do best!!

This thread helps me to realize that all the goofy in the world actually isn't located in the small Alabama town I live it (although I was pretty sure it was); so from that perspective the whole thread is somewhat useful, but aside from that not so much.

I thought the team played better and certainly showed more fire and that Coach Shula showed more (he had a different look in his eye - at least to me). The key to the entire thing to me is the statement the announcers made about the #'s of freshmen and red shirt freshmen on the roster. It takes TIME to gain experience and that's true regardless of who the coach is.

It is truly amazing how many people know what goes on inside the practices and the "inner workings" of the team. Must be the same people that bought Albert Means.
Ouch. That one is going to leave a mark.
