With all due respect...

This story is being reported by every major media outlet surrounding both Ann Arbor and Baton Rouge. Moreover, LSU has scheduled a press conference, and you know they didn't schedule a press conference two hours before kick-off in the SEC Championship Game to announce that Miles is going to Michigan.

That is a lot more than just something being "in print."

By referencing volume of the reports as proof postitive, then we should have listened to all of the media "reporting" that CNS would stay in Miami.

LSU associate athletic director Herb Vincent said Saturday morning that ESPN reports that Miles had accepted the head coaching position at Michigan were "inaccurate." Miles agreed to a contract extension Saturday with LSU.

Can't wait 'til Saban gets to face Miles when each has a stable full of their own players. Roll Tide.

"Theoretically" Miles has not even spoken to Michigan yet. How can he accept or reject any offer until he has talked to them.

All this speculation is just that: speculation. We will not know anything definite until the season is over.

Don't you think LSU would wait till after the SEC champonship game to announce either way. I find it foolish that they would drag the attention off the game and from their players by making any announcement.

The media in the Miami case were only reporting what Saban was explicitly stating on a weekly basis... I'm going to remain the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. It was being reported as such because Saban himself was explicitly stating as such on a consistent basis.

However...

When the Tuscaloosa News and Sentinel and others announced he was leaving for Alabama, and when Alabama scheduled a press conference, that was a lot more than the media is just reporting something in print. Once it reaches that stage, it's essentially a fact.

It has been reported on the LSU pregame show out of Baton Rouge that Les Miles was extremely irate that someone at Michigan leaked the news that he was leaving LSU. It is reported that he contacted Michigan and removed himself from cosideration and then announced to his team that he would be staying at LSU.

Sounds like all of the ESPN news services need to get on the same page. Their website has a "miles staying story" and espn2 news is still reporting the Herbstreit story of Miles is leaving next week. this is too funny.

What's going to be funny is if he announces he's staying before the game... and then Tennessee happens to throttle LSU. I'm sure the Cajuns won't be too happy with the news Miles is staying put after that.

is that the same as "i voted for the war before i voted aginst it"? he still may go to mich if he dosent sign anything. i feel he said that for the benefit of his team tonight. after the game ole les may be back on the mich bus.

I don't buy that one, honestly.

I can understand him not being thrilled about the situation of the news being leaked, but realistically speaking, this is one of the biggest coaching searches in recent history at a traditional powerhouse school, and with the 24/7 news cycle that dominates now, you have to know that it is going to be leaked.

Moreover, that seems to be an extreme reaction, if true. Who gives up their only chance in their lifetime to return to their beloved alma mater just because the news leaked about 24-48 hours before it was going to happen? I mean do you not think the Bryant to Alabama rumors leaked big-time before he left A&M? Of course they did, and arguably they cost his 1957 A&M team a national championship, but that didn't mean he suddenly said screw Alabama, remove my name from consideration, I'm signing a huge contract extension at A&M.

I just don't see that making any sense.

If you go and watch Kirk Herbsreit breaking the news on Gameday (video is still there on the right side), he sounded very confident that the info was real. ESPN has a policy that they must get 2 confirmations before they will "break" any story. It makes one wonder why Kirk would go out a limb like that and put his rep on the line. Who knows!?
