Congratulations, that one made me laugh out loudNo not an obsession. Seems more like an infestation. Oh just messin with ya!
I'm coming late to the party, but here's my take on Miles:
He recruits well. He runs a clean program. He keeps his kids out of trouble. He represents the program well to both the media and the rubber chicken circuit. He wins football games. He usually shows class when discussing opponents. All in all, he's a pretty good coach.
But it is absolutely true that he is running an inherited program, and like others who inherit aleady successful organizations, there are legitimate questions about his performance. He makes mind-numbingly dumb decisions on the sidelines and does not seem to understand the consequences. He got away with it in 2007 because of the load of talent. His decision-making caught up to him in 2008, and somehwat exposed him as a coach who takes unnecessary risks.
This, I think, is his Achilles Heel. He is a good man and a good coach, but he lacks the "it" factor when the game is in the Head Coach's hands.

I disagree stongly here. I've seen the "it" factor coaches make what would easily be considered "mind numbingly dumb decisions" if Miles made them. Including the Bama coach. I won't bore everyone with them, (unless challenged or requested of course)I'm coming late to the party, but here's my take on Miles:

"I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it." --Thomas JeffersonMiles had incredible luck in winning the 07 National Championship. He made some irrational play calls on the field and the ball just happened to bounce LSU's way.
"Fortune favors the bold." -- VirgilAny objective observer can see that this happened.
"We must believe in luck. For how else can we explain the success of those we don't like." -- Jean CocteauI will be the first to admit that luck counts and it led the way to the big prize for LSU. But, I am not convinced that luck should solidify Miles as a great coach.
Can you give us an example? His decision-making caught up to him in 2008, and somehwat exposed him as a coach who takes unnecessary risks.
In one of y'alls CBS games in 08 the announcers flashed up Les' 4th down success percentage in 08 (up to that point of the season) with 07. If I remember correctly it was a pretty big drop off in success rate. Can you give us an example?
My point was the scrutiny Miles calls gets is unfair. In one of y'alls CBS games in 08 the announcers flashed up Les' 4th down success percentage in 08 (up to that point of the season) with 07. If I remember correctly it was a pretty big drop off in success rate.
I think a lot of things that fall under the "things just go your way" umbrella went the "other way" for Les in 08 whereas he could have loaded a six shooter with five bullets and stuck to his head and five out of five he'd of hit the one empty chamber.

This is a never ending sick cycle until someone decides to budge. Criticism from LSU fans toward Saban and the ENTIRE BAMA program is unfair. So it all depends upon which road you choose to stand on to look at the situation. My point was the scrutiny Miles calls gets is unfair.
In the 2001 SECCG, trailing 14-7 Coach Saban went for it on 4th down from his own 29 and didn't make it. Nothing was said after. If Les Miles does that, successfull or not............
Coach Stallings once called a fake punt late in the first half from around his own 7-8 yardline . It worked but , it was also extremely stupid . So was Miles's call against the barn .My point was the scrutiny Miles calls gets is unfair.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree with that one, the call against the barn was the right one.Coach Stallings once called a fake punt late in the first half from around his own 7-8 yardline . It worked but , it was also extremely stupid . So was Miles's call against the barn .
Fair enough ?
