Milroe v Marino

So true! Marino made it as a rookie I believe and did not get a chance to play in one again. Marino was a multiple time pro bowler and Hall of Fame QB, Milroe is not.

I think the more intriguing conversation is how when super talented quarterbacks make it to the SB early in their careers and lose. Most everyone says "they'll be back plenty of times". But in reality, that hasn't shown to be the case. Look at Marino, Joe Burrow, and now could very well be Drake Maye. Who would have EVERY thunk Dan Marino would not have made back to at least one more super bowl? Burrow now can't stay healthy enough to finish seasons and they can't field a defense to help their offense. The football gods can be very unkind.

Not really anything…humorous anecdote…
only if he had actually played in the game. The comparison is ridiculous. You just wanted to bring the guy name up again for some reason.

Burrow probably missed his shot. I doubt he ever makes another. His health might not hold up. Maye won't be back either. I am not sold on him as a great NFL QB. The really weird thing is Bo Nix might make a Super Bowl before Josh Allen. He might not ever make one. Allen might be on one of those NFLNetwork lists no one wants to be on like Greatest QBs to never win/make a Super Bowl.

Nix will make one because of the team around him, not because of him.

What's so funny is...folks need to look at who the OTHER QUARTERBACKS were that beat them out.

Marino's team got back to the AFC championship in 1985, and they SHOULD have made it a rematch with the Bears. They were the better team, they were the #2 seed in the playoffs, and they got the Patriots IN MIAMI, where New England forced SIX turnovers that gave them 24 points in a game they won by 17. So okay, Champaign Tony Eason made a Super Bowl and got pulled in the first half. Dan did throw two picks, but the Dolphins fumbled on the first play of both halves (and lost them) and two other times, despite the fact the Patriots had lost 18 straight games in Miami.

But then look at which quarterbacks were in the Super Bowl for the AFC:
1986 - Elway
1987 - Elway
1989 - Elway
1990 - Kelly
1991 - Kelly
1992 - Kelly (beat Marino in Miami head-to-head in AFC championship)
1993 - Kelly

In Dan Marino's PRIME YEARS (he was ages 25-32 above), he lost out Super Bowl opportunities 7 times in 8 years to two bona fide Hall of Famers. By 1994, Dan was 33 years old, coming off an injury that cost him 11 games the previous year, and his record from 1994-99 as a starter was 50-36 (.581) after he'd played at a .642 clip prior to the injury. The only exception was losing out to Boomer Esiason in 1988, and Dan led all of the NFL in attempts, completions, and yardage on the best passing offense - by far - in football, but was saddled with a 6-10 team that had the second worst defense in the AFC.

Those guys were great QBs, but Marino was better than either one. But put a great QB with a minimally competent defense, and the good QB is often enough.

I'm a Dolphin fan today because of Dan Marino, Tony Nathan and Don Shula.

Shula always wanted to draft Bama boys because he said he knew they were well coached under Coach Bryant.

Concerning Marino, he was probably my favorite NFL QB for years and years. Lightning fast release and he could put it on the money.

But good for Milroe getting a ring, along with the other Bama boys with the Seahawks.

Meh I don’t really feel bad for rich pretty boy qbs never getting a ring. I feel bad for Shaun Alexander. All that te had to do was catch the flippin ball. Hit him right in the hands. Still mad about that game and I don’t even like the Seahawks

You just gave the perfect example of why Eli Manning doesn't belong in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Im still on the fence about this one. He had moments of exceptional play also some real mediocre play. Weird how both brothers dropped off a cliff at the end too. At least Eli didn’t take enough hgh to grow a second forehead

I don't feel bad for Shaun. He has lived a blessed life and proud family man of 14 kids. That guy is an inspiration and is truly living the dream.
