Bath & Canterbury England, 2007. Wearing my polo shirt with the old elephant & A when someone says "Roll Tide"...both cases were fans from somewhere other than the state of Alabama.

Re: Most random place to see Alabama fans

I'm stuck out in Arizona right now with 4 civilian t-shirts. Every time I wear my UA shirt (so every 4 days or so) I get stopped at least five times by a "roll tide" or other comment. The best part is, the guys out here with Auburn shirts don't run into anyone familiar with their team, hehe. The most random place I've gotten a roll tide? On a ferry ride in New Zealand.

Re: Most random place to see Alabama fans

I ran into some BAMA fans in Cairo, Egypt and in Jerusalem, Israel in December. That was not the first time I ran into TIDE fans in Jerusalem. Unfortunately I ran into an aubie fan just as we were leaving Tel Aviv to come back home. He was a nice guy; he just pulls for the wrong
team.

Re: Most random place to see Alabama fans

I went to New York City and to DC back in November and got a few Roll Tides from folks in the areas. I was wearing my houndstooth cap, which has the Alabama A on it. And yes I was surprised, might be hope for the folks North of the Mason-Dixon line yet.
I also went to NYC in November. Wore my Alabama hoodie around, and had a Roll Tide given to me in a shop in Times square. Also had a brief conversation with a UGA fan after mentioning "SEC pride" to him. He responded with "Haven't you guys beaten us enough?" :)

In line at the credit union here in Tampa last Tuesday, last month on the boat shuttle to Epcot from the Boardwalk (our driver was from Cullman and a Bama fan), fishing at Cedar Key last year....just about anywhere. ;)

Re: Most random place to see Alabama fans

While wearing a Bama shirt in the Grand Rapids, MI airport, I walked into the bathroom right after landing and deplaning about a year ago. A guy was walking out with his child. He said "You don't see Bama fans that much up in these parts." then turned to his son and said "What do you say to the man in the Bama shirt?" and the kid said "Roll Tide!".

Also saw a Bama fan decked out (in July) at the Sears/Willis Tower in Chicago several summers ago. I gave him a "Roll Tide!" and he responded in kind.

And after the 1992 national championship, my family and I were driving back from Virginia the day after the game, a car passes us on the interstate (also with an Alabama tag) honking his horn at us, holding up his index finger, and mouthing "Roll Tide!".

Re: Most random place to see Alabama fans

Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. I was stationed there for a year from mid-1960 til mid-1961. They were building a Nike-Zeus missle base there at the time and it was isolated duty. They had a shack on the windward side of the island with a stove and a couple of refrigerators for all us bored sailors to party at. One night there were two civilians there that turned out to be from Mobile too. They were working for the Corps of Engineers. Small world, huh?

Even stranger, one of them was the older cousin of a guy I played Jr. Hi football with. He was a big old boy and was a very highly recruited lineman, he finally chose Alabama, unfortunately he missed his chance to be one of "Bear's Boys" when he couldn't make it through Coach Bryant's "initiation" to big-time CFB. He was very complimentary of Coach Bryant though. and predicted that something special was about to happen at the Capstone. Of course, it was already pretty apparent that Alabama was already back to being Alabama.

Not as wierd as some on here, but I ran into three different individuals wearing Bama gear at King's Island Amusement Park in Cincy last summer. Also on occasion I see someone with a buper sticker or front liscence plate up here in Indy.

Re: Most random place to see Alabama fans

I went on a school trip to Greece, and though they weren't Bama fans, usually when we told the natives (restaurant staff, sheep skin sellers, rug makers, etc.) we were from Alabama they would respond with a "Roll Tide!" You can imagine how T.O.ed the Barn fans were. In a restaurant a staff member said Roll Tide! and an Auburn fan in our group said War Eagle! The staff member said..."What? What is War Eagle?"

While visiting a cousin in Phoenix, we were in IKEA Department Store. I was on a mobility scooter wearing an Alabama shirt when I heard someone say "Roll Tide!" I had my mind on trying to dodge people and didn't see the person, but I did say "Roll Tide" back at him.

Re: Most random place to see Alabama fans

Surprisingly I haven't read where anyone mentioned the most obvious place!!! My wife and I were in Auburn, Alabama doing some shopping, and while driving through the parking lot I stopped to let a couple walk across. The lady was dressed in a barn shirt and her husband quickly noticed my bama hat and said Roll Tide to me then looked at his wife and said I didn't see any of your teams fans stopping to let us walk. Made me lol

Re: Most random place to see Alabama fans

Walking around in Frankfurt, Germany in my Alabama windbreaker pants, and 13 NATIONAL TITLE T-shirt, got 5 or 6 Roll Tide's. In the Vatican, a Bama fan saw me in my Alabama hat and yelled Roll Tide, kind of awesome. While in Afghanistan a little boy from the area happened to have on a old school Bama hat, decided I would upgrade it for him and taught him to say Roll Tide.

Re: Most random place to see Alabama fans

While on Safari in Botswana. There was a guy on a different tour decked out in Bama gear. I will say here in D.C. I always see people in Bama gear. Sadly the Barner fans have been showing off their gear in the last few months, I have lived here for almost 11 years and I never saw barn gear until this year.

Funny non-bama gear story, I was in South Africa for the World Cup last year, and we were in one of the smaller towns hosting a game. There was an African guy wearing an Ohio State Sweatshirt, and I asked him if he knew where Ohio State was, his answer in a very heavy African accent was "somewhere". It was really funny.

There's a kid that works at our local Arby's and I get a Roll Tide when I go in.
