I must be the only person in the stadium who's really tired of Basket Case and was glad when they played "Sweet Home Alabama" over the loudspeaker at the start of the fourth quarter during the Western Carolina game.

Not to open up a can of worms or anything.

Re: Mrs. Saban spoke to the band today.

My daughter goes to school with the Saban's daughter. I've met Mrs. Saban (or Ms. Terry as the kids call her) and she's just unbelievably nice and down to earth. She's very involved in the school. Although her daughter is in high school, she works with kids from all grades and age groups at the school. She's there several times a week volunteering for one thing or another. I can't say enough good things about her.

It's also nice to know what the LSU fans were doing too. Thanks for clearing that up!

basket case has to go. Play something else. 10 years of it is enough.

Re: Mrs. Saban spoke to the band today.

It's the staggered wave/cheer LSU does after stopping a team on 3rd down. The band will play a cadence while the crowd does the staggered wave. It ends with everyone pumping their fist and yelling "LSU!". It's called "Chinese Bandits" because, if I remember correctly, that was the nickname of LSU's defensive unit way back in the day. The head coach at the time said they were quicker than a group of Chinese bandits.
LSU coach Paul Dietzel back in the late 50's and early 60's had three units which he named the White Team, Go Team and the Chinese Bandits. The Bandits comprised the D.

Re: Mrs. Saban spoke to the band today.

Can there ONCE be a thread about the MDB without people complaining?

As for Basketcase being "too old", you do realize that Sweet Home is 1.) Older and 2.) the MOST overplayed song in this state right? Poll the band members. It is a song that most of them will tell you they don't want to stop playing it because it is just a fun song to play.

I'm tired of Sweet Home Alabama being played over the loud speaker...there I said it. Once before pre-game is fine with me, I can tolerate that. Multiple times however, no. It drives me crazy, doesn't get me pumped up, etc.

My personal opinion...but I could listen to that song over and over again. Don't know if you have always been from Texas...but maybe that has something to do with it. I love that song though and it gets me pumped up every time I hear it...both because I am proud of my state and because I am proud of my alma mater.

TURN IT UP!

No one would have had a voice by the second half this past Saturday.

I have an even better idea. Let's all say ROOOOOLLLLLLLL until Alabama scores, and then say Tide! Like in basketball!!

Sweet Home Alabama ONCE before kickoff is plenty. They play it once 30 before once 10 before and then sometimes during the game. THATS TOOOO MUCH. Its cool and all but during the game it does not get anybody pumped up. We need to play something thats energizing going into the fourth quarter to get the fans pumped.

i completely agree. during the first game, they played it 5 times! twice before the game, the band played it walking onto the field, once at halftime, and once between the 3rd and 4th quarter.

Re: Mrs. Saban spoke to the band today.

Mrs. Saban likes when we play Sweet Home Alabama. Wishes we would play it more. I believe there was positive mention of basketcase as well. Not sure.

But she definitely was into sweet home alabama. She was all about it. Sorry all you people that don't like it, but it won't be going anywhere. And neither will basketcase, I promise. :)

Re: Mrs. Saban spoke to the band today.

Hey UAMDB1,

Has the band come up with anything to play after 3rd down when stopping the other team from getting a 1st down?

BTW, ya'll do a great job.
