He didn't need to pass in the red zone because they could run it in. Even against us.
I mean it isn't that I think he's unable... but wouldn't the concern be a bit of atrophy? The receivers aren't catching touchdowns, the playcaller isn't calling passes in the end zone, the quarterback isn't throwing them. If they suddenly find they need to, is that going to be easy enough for them?

The greater takeaway is that they do not have a down field passing game. They simply do not have long TD threats at WR.

More on the red zone, this team also has a knack for bowing up inside the 10 Yard line and even in short yardage elsewhere on the field. So many games we have stoned very good offenses on 3rd and 4th and 1. If Michigan can limit our offensive explosive plays, that may be where the game is won or lost.

We lost our sign stealer early in the season, and I'm sure didn't dare replace him-even though most programs have them on the sidelines, in the booth, studying film, etc. In fact, several Big Ten teams shared information on Michigan signs last year among each other. That's all legal, of course. What our guy did was pay others to travel to games to get video. That's the entire illegal part. Is that worth a 3-game suspension for the head coach? Would they have suspended Saban for it? No, because your commish would have told Auburn-or whoever paid the PI firm like Day did-to shut up and handle their business internally. That's the last comment I'll have on sign stealing, I'm really here to talk about the game!
A word of advice: You’re a guest. You’re not one of us. Just thought you might want to keep that in mind…

Understand that the entire Michigan offense centers around their ability to run the ball. Almost all of their pass plays rely on the run game to pull up the LBs and safeties in run support. Stop the run and you force their QB to make plays down the field in the passing game, and he is not that type of QB.

Michigan wins by dinking and dunking their way down the field. A negative yardage play most often is a drive killer for them.

So, stop the run and you win. But they are built to run the ball, so it will be harder than you realize. They have a very experienced offensive line and they don't make many mistakes. You are going to have to our physical them at the LOS, and this group takes pride in winning those ugly battles.
Bama had the exact same challenge, even more so, a little over a week ago; they failed the challenge but won the game.
The reason they failed (Freeze’s playcalling) probably can’t be copied by JH. But Bama has to limit the run. DB’s should be able to cover and if any pass rush can be generated, Michigan may be slowed down on offense.
Michigan hasn’t faced an offense with the dynamic capabilities that Bama possesses. They have to limit Bama’s scoring opportunities but Bama can score from anywhere. Tall order.

One thing you have to understand. We have the most talent we’ve ever had on one team, ever. I do believe that Coach Saban has had to adapt to learn how to coach modern teenagers. The progression this year, has come from his adapting, previous styles, with new ones, while revisiting old ones, all in some brand new style.

expect the next game to be the best one we’ve played all year long
That's interesting...but I have no reason to doubt it. Your QB and your team have definitely improved a lot as the year has gone on, and Saban seems like he's having fun with this group. (Saban and fun aren't necessarily words that go together smoothly for casual observers of your program!) I work with teenagers every day as a counselor, was a coach for many years, and they have definitely changed over the years. Still a lot of great kids out there, but old school ways are more likely to shut them down rather than fire them up. Kudos to Coach for adapting. I think Harbaugh has as well, he started out coaching like Bo Schembechler and has morphed into a player's coach over the years. And yes, we know he's weird.

I really wasn't trying to be combative, you guys can talk about sign stealing and scandal all you want. I just won't be doing that in the future. I'd rather talk about the game, the players, and the coaches. For instance, I had no idea until I looked it up earlier today that Alabama has played in the Rose Bowl 7 times, which is the most of any non Big Ten/Pac Ten school. I went once when Michigan lost to USC on the Charles White phantom touchdown in 1979, and there is no better venue for a college football game IMO.

I hope center Seth McLaughlin cleans his dang play up. I'd hate to see him become a major liability with his reckless snaps. It's been going on since the first game of the season. I am surprised Nick has not tried someone else at center just to wake him up at least.

Go back and read what he said about Saban. Poking fun at the GOAT when your team is coached by Jim freaking Harbaugh isn’t a good idea. To get caught cheating red-handed and come onto this board and act all smug isn’t either.
I didn’t take offense. He didn’t understand blue font. Show a little Southern hospitality. No need to get all worked up.

Nah man Michigan cheated and shouldn’t be allowed to play in the postseason. The rest of the country seems to have forgotten all about the scandal but I refuse to. I’ll just stay out of the thread from now on.
