At the point we're talking, it's not necessarily about money anymore. There is too much money in Texas to get him.

Very possible. Even my wife, the most non-football person I know, has been reading everything popping up about Coach. She read somewhere that health issues were one of the reasons he gave the team for retiring. He felt he could no longer give that 100%. If that's the case, I hope its nothing serious. Have a long, happy retirement Coach.Might be undisclosed health related issues at play in this. Wouldn’t rule it out, may be part of the cause why he became more low key, less yelling and animated.
Pure speculation of course but my guess is that call was made well before yesterday.Well, if that was 100% true than we would have lost Saban to Texas years ago when they made a run at him. Sometimes money isn't everything. I doubt Sark would leave as well but, I'd still make the call.
Yeah there isn't much lifestyle difference between 6,7,8,9 million a year. Big difference between 6 and 60, but the numbers we are talking about I'd think quality of life issues like "do i want to live in the pacific northwest vs the south east" or "do i want to play cross country in the cluster that is the BIG or play in the SEC where it is still regional" etc would come into play.At the point we're talking, it's not necessarily about money anymore.
Or "do I want to get away from boosters who think they have control over me because of their donations"...Yeah there isn't much lifestyle difference between 6,7,8,9 million a year. I hope that whoever takes the job maintains what Saban has made clear that the head coach is in charge of the program.Or "do I want to get away from boosters who think they have control over me because of their donations"...
My guess would be that between Byrne and the precedent we've had for the last (almost) two decades, booster meddling will remain less of an issue at Alabama than it was.I hope that whoever takes the job maintains what Saban has made clear that the head coach is in charge of the program.
Agreed, I just don't see the university returning to the pre Saban days of booster meddling. My guess would be that between Byrne and the precedent we've had for the last (almost) two decades, booster meddling will remain less of an issue at Alabama than it was.
That's definitely a reality in Oregon and TexasOr "do I want to get away from boosters who think they have control over me because of their donations"...
I hope this is true. Another reason why the right hire might be really important. My guess would be that between Byrne and the precedent we've had for the last (almost) two decades, booster meddling will remain less of an issue at Alabama than it was.
With all the NIL money floating around, and the players are free agents to choose during open signing period, its now a free for all unless a new college football rules managment system is created and installed. The NCAA if really uncontrolled system which need to be disbanded and a new system installed ( it wont happen in my lifetime).Agreed, I just don't see the university returning to the pre Saban days of booster meddling.
Please don't be true.Me too. External factor unknown to most is driving.

I figured if he got LSU one, he’d get us two.I remember when Alabama hired him.
I was stoked.
I knew he would get 1 NC.
17 years and 6 NC later ... just wow.
I raise my glass and give a toast to the GOAT.
Thank you for the memories.
No matter what happens in the future, these past 17 years can never be taken away.
