nightmare scenarios

For Alabama:
Texas o line gives good pass protection
Texas jumps out to an early lead and scores 2 touchdowns in first quarter
Texas D holds Alabama to 3 points or less in the 1st quarter

Alabama modifies its game plan to pass more often, McElroy, out of his comfort zone, gets picked, Texas wins going away

For Texas:
Texas o line fails to give adequate pass protection
Alabama jumps out to an early lead
Texas offense continues to struggle, lots of 3-and-outs
Texas D wears down from having to stay on the field so much, Alabama wins going away (whether the offense gets its .... back together in the 2nd half or not)

Obviously special teams will also have a say in the outcome, very hard to predict though.

The Texas nightmare scenario is the more likely (unfortunately for our side).

Wouldn't necessarily call this a nightmare scenario... Did you see the UGA TAM game? What was the score halfway into the second quarter?

We play in the SEC. 3-3 or 6-3 is pretty common after the first quarter. After all we do play defense over here ;)

Auburn jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead. McElroy wasn't out of his comfort zone as he led the team with its poorest rushing effort to a win. Texas is better than Auburn but being down 2 scores in the first quarter doesn't necessarily take Alabama out of their comfort zone.

At work most of the time!
I feel very good about the game if we can make it throught the first 15 min. We should be able to establish a run game and wear their defense down. I may be wrong but I dont think Texas' D is equipted to stop long grinding drives like SEC defenses.

This is the ONLY way I can see it. This is what has to happen.
Sorry Texas.

Besides injuries, the only nightmare scenario I see for Bama is coming out and playing like they did against Utah. I don't think we're going to see that.

Nightmare for Texas; McCoy spends his evening running for his life from the Bama D-line, and get's pounded by our LBs if he tries to scramble up the middle.

I think the nightmare scenario for Texas will be more about the Texas DL not being able to stop Bama's running game:

Bama wins the toss, elects to take the ball. They drive 80 yards for the score, eating up seven and a half minutes, with yardage fairly evenly distributed between pass and run.

Texas get the kickoff and drives to score, eating up two minutes and 10 seconds.

Bama gets the kickoff, drives to score, eating up the remainder of the first quarter and into the second. Bama 14-Texas 7.

Same scenario for the rest of the game: Bama 42 Texas 21.

That's not a prediction. I'm just an old fart who loves Bama football, and who rarely boasts. But that is the nightmare scenario for Texas if things go as both teams have shown so far this season.

Bingo...I think the biggest question mark for this game is will Texas top-ranked run defense can stop our rushing attack. If we have running success on our first or second possession and demonstrate that their D is no match for our running attack, then it's over.

For Bama, nightmare scenario is Texas D line is actually as good as they've looked...I think that would be a problem, but I don't see it happening.

Nightmare scenario for Texas: Alabama contains Colt McCoy

Nightmare scenario for Alabama: Texas contains Ingram...and Richardson...and Julio...and Peak...and McElroy...and...Arenas...and Cody...and McClain...I think you get the picture.

Good point. Texas is definitely a one man team.

Like SEC defenses? Do you think the Texas defense doesn't compare favorably to SEC defenses? I can see you thinking Bama has a better defense, though that is arguable, but to say the Texas D is simply ill-equipped to function like an SEC defense is more of the same thoughtless conference hyperbole that is tiresome and predictable.

Bama is going to have a very difficult time moving the ball against Texas and vice versa. I predict there may be some unexpected scoring early, but once these two defenses settle in, it's going to be rough for both offenses. This game will be all about special teams and turnovers. Texas leads the nation in non-offensive touchdowns, which is an area the team has excelled in for years. It may not happen, of course, in this game, but it is reason for optimism for Texas fans.

A few weeks ago any of the posters here could have easily seen the above quote with the name Florida in it. 32 points and 490 yards of offense later and the nation's #1 defense wasn't #1 anymore. The Longhorns will get their shot to prove they are a top defense when it counts most. So will Bama. I just think Bama's has been tried and tested in a much more significant way than UT's has.

Bama has turned the ball over a total of 10 times this year. 6 fumble, 4 int's. Bama is very very good at protecting the ball.

Looking at the match up on paper, it should be a great game. Texas fans should be optimistic.

So should we.

The nightmare situation for AL in my mind, is McElroy throwing an early INT for 6 and losing confidence and/or special teams allowing huge kick returns for quick scores...

For TX... The worst case scenario will be for AL to be as unpredictable and confusing as they were with FL. When you practice and prepare for one thing and you are slapped in the face with something else, it is very demorilizing when you can't execute.

While this same argument could also be true against AL,;TX is a much more "one deminisional" team and would take more risks attempting to create a running game that was non-existant 4 weeks ago.

My nightmare scenario: The real Nebraska offense is the one that showed up in the bowl game against Arizona, meaning the Texas defense throttled a very respectable Nebraska offense.

Well ESPN and everyone likes to say so. Heck, commentators say Colt McCoy is the reason Texas will win the game. Other than McCoy who is a very productive offensive player for Texas? And do not include Shipley or another WR... I want someone that doesn't rely on McCoy having time to get him the ball.
