Just confirms what we all know....locker rooms are a mess....the 2025/26 season will come down to which set of Highly paid mercenaries is the best this year....is it UTX? OSU again? Or maybe the outsider Tx Tech who are flashing the cash this year.....the one hope is that a cohesive team, not based on NIL, can win it all and reverse or at least buck the trend and add a semblance of normalcy back to CFB....

Speaking of Texas Tech. My sister and brother-in-law are alums of TT and live in Lubbock. The oil well folks are dumping truck loads of cash into that collective and the Red Raiders may become a force to be reckoned with very soon.

So, NIL brings uneven pay to the locker room, b/c different players w/different success and attributes are rewarded differently. The pro sports players all have differing salaried contracts, so why are the college players acting like they all should make the same high number?
Because they're kids and do not have the experience of an adult professional football player who understands that every person and every position isn't going to be paid the same. Kids don't think like adults, and this is why the NIL/Pay for Play was a bad idea. You've got kids functioning in an adult, professional model, and they simply do not think on that level.

The money escalated so quickly that you have older proven players making less than newbies who have never played a down of college football.

Argument #243,598,734 in favor of a union / management / CBA arrangement.

Flawed though it may be, that's the best way to stop the madness and be enforceable across all 50 states and stand up in court. The other two options being (1) Congressional legislation or (2) continue with the current setup.

I'll take Door #1, Monte.

Ya they say the same about SMU. You guys think oil heads care that much about sports that they're going to release their own funds? Nah son, Just because a school alumni has money, doesn't equal a donation. I refuse to believe any of these lower mid tier schools will ever compete on a national level. No matter how much money you throw at em.

Also you have salary cap and rookie contract caps that keep things under control.

Welcome to the modern workplace... This has been going on for years in every industry when you are trying to compete for a shrinking labor pool.

I'm old enough to remember the USFL vs NFL. Shoot, AFL vs NFL.

I'm old enough to remember when college grads were getting paid more than pro-bowlers. We are seeing history repeat. There will be a freshman salary structure just like the rookie cap.

Yeah, Texas Tech and their Matador Club are even dumping tons of money into softball. They paid pitcher Nijaree Canady $1mil last year, and are paying her $1.2mil this year. Plus they have brought in some all-stars from UCLA, Cal, Tennessee, Ohio State and Florida thru the portal. I don't know how much they paid for everyone else. They're doing the Ohio State football thing - let's pay for a national championship.

Because they’re young, dumb, and full of hope for the future.

Well, when in contract negotiations with a pro team you basically have less leverage as you either come to terms or sit a year. With unlimited transfers in college ball, you have more leverage as Nico Imaleaveyou demonstrated.😎

Limiting transfers to one time only would greatly improve the situation!

My prediction is there will be an NFL farm system someday and college football will return to the early 20th century model. The regional tradition of college football is a victim of NIL as well. Regional conferences with a play off system would be great for competition and interest in the sport.
