This game reminds me of Larry Holmes versus Tex Cobb. Holmes was quoted after the fight that there will be no rematch, my hands can't take the punishment.
Well...

No rematch with Georgia and no rematch with Kentucky.:biggrin::biggrin:

Ingram tweaked his ankle (I believe) last week, so that's probably why he wasn't in more. I don't know why Roy wasn't in more except that Coffee was just on fire, so why not use him. Grant hasn't contributed much at all the past couple of weeks. It's odd that CNS says "we have three good running backs." That makes me think that Grant either is in the doghouse or just can't hang with what they need him to do except in very select situations.

Ingram made a few bad reads especially in the 3rd qtr that practically killed our drives. He kept trying to juke side ways when his primary strength is lowing his shoulders and breaking tackles going north-south. I thought Ingram had a real bad game by his standard which gave more opportunity to Upchurch.

Grant is really not suited for the offensive scheme we run on 1st and 2nd. We like to run between the tackles and we count on the backs to gain extra yards after the first contact. Coffee and Ingram are exactly the type of backs to do this job. I think we have a special package we can use with Grant, but I doubt he will be featured much as far as running the ball and getting those good 1st and 2nd down yards.

Also, CBS commercial breaks are horrible. Atrocious. Nothing kills momentum and the crowd like a TV timeout, and they had to have taken over 20 today. One of the longest games of the year so far, by my reckoning.

The refs were as bad as they come. Bama did enough to win. Roll Tide.
I usually try to not blame refs, but I agree with the assessment. Not because they almost cost us the game or anything like that but because they missed SO MANY calls! The offensive pass interference against Julio was egregious. The ball spotting on several drives was 1/2 to 1 yard wrong (both for and against us). The non-calls on several late hits by UKY when our guy was already on the ground are the ones that make the maddest, though, because they're uncalled for, deliberate, and potentially dangerous.

A friend who is a photographer for one of the BIG services (like Boy *****.com), showed his roll of (digital) film to me with MANY MANY photos of Alabama players jerseys being held and pulled over and over. I don't remember but maybe ONE holding "official" call against KY...

The main thing is we come away with a win. There is some problems but like some have said a win is a win in the sec. I am exited about the rest of the season. People are saying that we might drop in the polls, that will not matter if Alabama keeps winning.:)

The ball spotting was the thing I noticed the most. I kept wondering to myself if Alabama has a staff member that goes back and looks at these things the next day. If so, they are going to find about 20 or so yards lost or gained left on the field due to the refs. These refs need to be reprimanded.

Which brings me to my second point. Bama has been one of the least penalized teams in the country until today. I'll betcha the refs are catching some heat from the other SEC coaches about Bama getting away with penalties. Then there was the blown no-call on the punt return last week and the attention that the refs got from it. Nobody likes to be called out and I think CNS "tried" to brush it to the side but the fact remains that they were called out on it. I'm just hoping this doesn't become a trend.

My biggest problem with the refs is that they let the sidelines influence their calls too much. If you see a penalty throw the flag, but when you allow a sideline to talk you in to seeing something then you don't need to be in that position. Unfortunently, this tends to be happening more and more.

On the offensive pass interference call, Julio had turned up field for 8-10 yards after the catch before the flag came out. That phantom call had a major impact on the game. I believe this officiating crew should definitely be reprimanded.

3 Turnovers...almost 100 yards in penalties...but we win!!!

You know...I was hoping we "mud holed" UK but in the long run this is good for the team. Honestly, the breaks were going to UK & but...we found a way to win. I am proud of the team...they overcame some real sloppy play to win. You have to have a couple of those "survival games" if you are a championship quality team. Coach Saban will have a lot to go over with the guys. Another thing, I liked Saban letting Tiffin kick that FG...Something like that, will get his confidence back! ...We are going to need him later in the season!!!

I think the bye week comes @ perfect time...regroup...and let's get to Baton Rouge unbeaten!!!

My 10 cents...which has probably been said already!!

Weve played 6 games.... 3 conference games... and 2 teams ranked in the top ten when we played them.... we are 6-0...WE HAVE NOT TRAILED IN A GAME YET!!!!!!! I dont see the need for doom and gloom quite yet.
You are exactly right...the ball may not have bounced our way today but we still had the fortitude to over come an win!

Today he was asked to do a few things that are not his strength. He really got rattled when he threw the pick and it took him a few possessions to get his head back in the game.

As long as we keep it to shorter passes, he is great - but we can't ask him to air it out. He is a great leader. We have to trust him...
I'll be the first to admit JPW has picked up his game this year and it's helped us ,however, it concerns me when a Sr. QB gets rattled over a mistake and it takes him that long to re-focus. I'll take an ugly win any day of the week but at some point, we aren't going to have the luxury of wasting 3-4 possessions to get our heads back in the game. Special teams played much better today on kick-off/punt returns. Coffee was the game saver/workhorse today. The 1st fumble was a fluke off the defenders face mask (who fell into him), I think the
2nd fumble was fatigue.

I couldn't help but think during the game that the ref's were overcalling the holds since it looked last week like they were blind to everything :)

Roll Tide!

The officiating was by far the worst we have seen all year, those guys were flat out awful! The fact of the matter is with all our mistakes and penalties we kept UK in the game for basically the entire game. We left 13 points on the field today and still found a way to win against a conference foe, it certainly wasn't pretty but I don't know too many other SEC teams who wouldn't take that all things considered. Hopefully that was the worst performance we'll see from our guys this year. Hats off to UK for keeping their heads in it though, they'll win some games in league this year IMO. They probably have the best D-line we've seen all year to this point.

I thought it was a great win for us because despite all the negative things that happened, we still managed a win.

As bad a we played overall, I Never thought that we would lose the game. Just, how ugly it would get.

We had many mental errors, especially on special teams.

Our OL was manhandled many times, leading to holding calls. I counted at least 6 times when "71" was just plane whooped....

JPW erratic play...

Tiffin had a terrible day, but made one when it counted most....

Defense played well when it counted, but made many mistakes....

Officiating was horrible....

It seemed all of our "bad" plays came at critical moments....

Yet, in spite of all of this, we got a win, that in my opinion, was never in doubt.

Now we get a week off to rest up, heal up and get mentally recharged for Ole Miss.
