I liked the call when we made it. I remember thinking before the play it would be a good time for a fake. Unfortunately it looked like Ole Miss was thinking the same thing.

#86 single handedly stopped our offense today. That doesn't bode well for the future. All we can do is hope we get better.

mr. hardy Nr. 86 was lights out today, because he was lined up on our right side of the off line, which is still our worse. and then we left littl terry grant, at at 179 pounds to block this guy. poor terry was destroyed by mr. hardy. why did we not put walker or dial on that side, i guess it is because we were sending receivers out on the play and left no one to help block. i enjoyed the offense today. what a great day for 3d down conversions over 80 percent. this is what i expected this year. a offense that needed to control the clock, so the defense would not get hurt. well, even so, one of the worst offenses in the sec managed to move up and down the field all day with the run and the pass. shades of houston again. it seems our secondary plays prevent defense the whole game, only two or three times they were actually in position to make a play on the ball. i dont feel good about tenn with ainge, lsu with flynn, and defense, still think we match up good with auburn.

My Post Game Thoughts:

- Good job, JPW, for the most part. Keep working on decision-making, especially when your receivers are covered. But overall, a big improvement. Congrats.

- Our DLine was horrible, especially with QB pressure. I could not believe the amount of time the QB had on the 4th and forever they converted. No way we can let the QB stand back there and survey the field. (Did anyone notice the play were one of our DEs got knocked down and basically stayed down? Good grief!)

- Our LBs were equally as bad, especially the inside backers. P. Hall should not be playing LB, especially in the SEC.

- Simeon had a very good game today, I thought. Kareem is going to be a star at the corner. Rashad Johnson is a bigtime hitter. Secondary showed a little improvement today but still leaky. (Lionel Mitchell scares me.)

- RBs looked very good today. It was sad to see Coffee fumble away his chances though.

- Javier - Wow! Thank you!!!

- Bottom line: I finally saw today what everyone has been saying - our defense is not very good. We need so much help with the front 7 that it's scarey.

I thought we played a very good game today for the most part. The defense had a rough first half but they got it together in the second half. Most of the big plays Ole Miss had in the third and fourth quarters were fantastic plays by their receivers even though the coverage was there. We should also have scored three times in the third quarter but due to turnovers and dropped passes we ended up with nothing. However, we won the fourth quarter yet again, and that was the difference in the game.

The offense took a major step forward today thanks to the play of JPW. I just hope he can keep it up, and doesn't regress like he did after the Arkansas game. When he is on we are very difficult to stop.

I honestly have no clue what might happen in the UT game this weekend. I have no feel for it at all. It all depends on which Bama team shows up to play, and we won't know that until after kickoff.

I'm still astounded that the Third Saturday in October is relegated to an LFS broadcast while a game involving Kentucky is on CBS -- especially considering Alabama is tied for the lead in the SEC West. However, most of the media seems to have already relegated us to an also-ran in this year's SEC race. Regardless, this has been a strange year in college football.

POSITIVES from Ole Miss Game

1. We looked great on 1st down for most of the game. We ran the ball very well on first down, especially when we ran behind big Andre on that left side.

2. Javier Arenas and the punt return team had another big return that gave us the ball in the opposition's territory. I think we take this guy for granted. He's a special player.

3. DJ Hall had another great day catching the football.

4. Our defense made stops late in the 4th quarter when the game was on the line.

5. Some big takeways on defense gave us some great scoring opportunities on offense.

6. The game is over...and we got a W on the road in the SEC. This is the biggest positive of all. Also, after Kentucky beats LSU tonight...we are right in the thick of it in the West.

7. The game is over and I don't have to look at Shrek on camera every 20 seconds.:)

I'm about to decide that when it comes to playing a reputable opponent from a BCS conference, there's no such thing as an "ugly win" anymore.

Style points are out ... survival is in.

Re: POSITIVES from Ole Miss Game

1. Wilson, while not amazing, did what we needed him to do. There were a couple of throws off, but for the most part, a solid game. Thankfully.

2. We won. These days, it doesn't matter who the opponent is. A win is a win is a win.

I never stopped believing that TG was a better RB than GC. I didn't get caught up in the GC hype last week. Don't get me wrong; I think GC is a good back. But there's no way I would ever give the ball to him 30 times while TG is on the sidelines. Perhaps blocking is an issue, but TG is the better back--a gamebreaker. TG would have gotten more out of those 30 carries than GC did. JMHO.

Grant is not an every down back. He gets knocked down too easy.

Re: POSITIVES from Ole Miss Game

Get down 7, come back and put up 10 in Q4 for the win. That I like.

BTW I saw this game in Buffalo, NY. I deserve credit for doing that. We spent an hour looking for a place that had it. No one in Buffalo gives a flip about CFB so it's slim pickins. Finally got the game at end of 3rd Q, after checking about 5 places, and everything starts going wrong. I'm thinking, "Why!? Why!? Why!? Oh God!! Oh Satan!! Sweet Jesus, why!!!??" Then we come back and win.

Yay!

I like the last half of the equation. Like you, what I like is the never say done attitude.

Another major difference from recent games...we converted most of the third down situations.

Also, didn't we convert like a bazillion 3rd downs for a change.
Grant and Coffee looked good today (not great but good). Also has anyone mentioned that we came from behind on the road in the fourth quarter.

I never claimed he was an every-down back. I'm simply saying I would never give the ball to GC 30 times and Grant 3 times. TG can get 15-18 touches with no problems. I'd make sure he got 'em.

He didn't get the ball 30 times today. He got the ball 30 times against Houston because he had the hot hand. The staff has shown that who ever has the hot hand that day will get the bulk of the load. But overall Coffee and now seemingly Upchurch are more complete backs. I'm not saying to ignore Grant but I don't think he good enough at this stage of his career to "MAKE SURE" he gets the ball 15-18 times a game.

I'm finding it hard to blame the guy.[/QUOTE]

Thats some pretty good use of technology there brother. So, are you saying he should have cut it into that lane that existed in exhibit 1 or pitched it to Tiffin when the tackler committed to him? ;)

Of course, maybe we need an athlete as a holder the way LSU uses Flynn. A kicker may not run through the hole the way a regular or at least more experienced ball carrier would. There is no telling what he might find when he got to the other side.

I'm saying Fitzgerald had a place to go, But he's not an experienced running back, so I would not expect him to read blocks well, or to make the big play unless the blocks were perfect. Marlon Davis made a hole, but he could have blocked better so that Fitzgerald could have had a better chance. #86 that made the tackle was making big plays all day, so have to I give him credit, too.

Personally, I was half expecting a fake after Orgeron tried to "ice" Tiffin with the last second timeout in the first half.

Nice work with the pix, CBI. Don't know if the play was designed to go outside, & the blocker just couldn't get his man sealed, or what. Looked like Tiffin was trailing PJ, looking for a possible pitch, which would seem to support the play being designated outside, but as you said, a more experienced runner might've seen the crease.
