I was at that game too. I grew up outside Columbia and always knew that Gamecock fans had a massive inferiority complex. I am not the kind of fan who acts obnoxiously with opposing fans, especially at their place. But we got harassed nonstop all the way out of that stadium and all the way down that long street away from the fair grounds. It was ridiculous.

FSU and this game were well timed... The team played through adversity, the Coaches pulled it off, and we have a heaping dose of humility to keep us fired up and wanting to get better.

Yeah the fairgrounds aspect of it just is very off putting. It’s like going to a bowl game where it’s just a carnival parking lot around the stadium. It’s more of a “fine” experience.

Stadium wise for attending true bama away games (keep in mind there are 4 SEC stadiums i haven’t been to)

1. Kyle Field (aTm) it’s BDS but 10x better
2. Tiger Stadium (LSU). Best atmosphere in and out of the stadium in college football
3. Camp Randall (Wisconsin). Rich tradition, good stadium, and just good overall experience
4. Davis Wade (MSU): as crazy as it sounds it’s a pretty cool stadium minus the cowbells
5) Kroger (UK). Best parking in the SEC bar none, great stadium, but weird atmosphere
6) Jordan Hare (Auburn): I will never go back for an iron bowl but I have to give it to Auburn… they can create one of the most hostile environments in college football with a traditional 8-4 team. They also have the prettiest grass in the SEC
7) Farout Field (Mizzou): it’s nice for what it is and there is a lot to see outside the stadium. Plus people are super nice.
8) Williams Brice: really have discussed it
9) Ben Hill (Florida). Unpopular opinion but I was totally let down by the swamp. It’s a very old feeling stadium and I hate where they put visitors (they share a section with the Florida student section)
10) DKR (Texas). It looks nice on TV but good god it’s a horrible experience. Do not recommend
11) neyland (Tennessee). Stadium is a DUMP but it’s a gorgeous drive and outside the stadium is nice.
12) Vaught Hemingway (Ole Miss)- stadium is like a high school stadium and the Grove is criminally overrated.

Agree on Kyle Field, although A&M's campus felt weird to me with everything being so spaced out.

DKR - You need to go with a Texas season ticket holder and hang out in our version of "the zone" on their home side. It gets you out of the heat and with food to die for!

Disagree on VH - I thought the stadium felt comfortable, although I sat in an OM section. It was small sure, but I thought it was pretty nice. And, we "dined" in the Grove with OM folks. Remember, they may lose the game but they always win the party. I agree it's overated, but every college football person should go experience it.

While I agree Neyland is a Dump, it's another place everyone needs to experience. Their traditions are probably 2nd in the SEC to Bama as far as pageantry is concerned. In an unfortunate experience during the Mike Dubose era, I watched Bama play UT and we actually had the lead early in the game but then UT mounted a come back and that was probably the loudest place I've ever been other than BDS in the student section against LSU in the early CNS era.

Off topic a little, but one of my favorite stadiums is the old Cotton Bowl for the RRR. Old stadium but a great atmosphere at the State Fair of Texas. Went with a good friend who was a big Texas fan who is no longer with us. It is a good memory!

I wonder if the overthrow of wide open Germie Bernard was one of the “forced” three-and-outs.

We blew enough opportunities on our own that would have put them away before the fourth quarter.

If that was a good idea, then it would have been an equally good idea for Bernard to step out of bounds at the one-foot line, let the clock run down and kick a field goal. I’m not saying that wouldn’t have worked — most likely it would, but we’ll never know — but I would have been on edge with that call. One thing we know for sure is that their strategy didn’t work.

They are not that good; unfortunately. Probably the weakest running back room since Saban arrived. Wish Justice had hung around.

Agree that, apart from Dear, this is a weak running back room in terms of running the ball. They seem to lack speed, quickness and vision to an amateur’s eyes.

As to Haynes, he did almost nothing in P4 games. I thought he was going to be a great player but for whatever reason he was a great disappointment last year, especially in some critical situations, where just responsible play would have been sufficient. Maybe he felt betrayed or was just disheartened by Saban’s resignation, idk, but it was neither a surprise nor disappointment that he left. His heart didn’t seem to be in it.

Game A: Simpson goes 23/43 for 254 yards and 2 TDs.
Game B: Simpson goes 24/43 for 253 yards and 2 TDs.
I legitimately had to do a double take on that one.

Game A: 87 yards rushing for 3 YPC and 0 TDs
Game B: 71 yards rushing for 3.1 YPC and 1 TD.

Team A: 3-4 (loss)
Team B: 3-5 (win)

The similarities are astounding to me.

So what are the takeaways? Well to me the biggest thing is just how the team finished. It isn't as though the stats look better (South Carolina does allow 3 points less per game than FSU but the difference is negligible). I think you can argue though that bad luck was a bigger factor in this game though. Alabama could have folded up shop like they did against FSU but they didn't. They kept fighting, gave themselves a chance and they won. That's the difference between the two games.

What I'm hoping for though, the next evolution of the team is to just improve the weak spots in the offense. If they can figure out how to take some pressure off of Ty and be more reliable on the ground I think either of those games look very different (in a good way). They improved from the FSU game though, if nothing else in mental toughness so I'm hoping for continued improvement.

Remarkable comparison. While certainly not meaningless, it shows how misleading stats can be without context. I.e., you have to watch the game to really know what went on.

It was a real crapshow. We didn't deserve to win, but we found a way to steal one. I hope we get rested and fix some problems. At this point, even with our flaws, we are in the thick of the conversation for championships. Roll Tide!

One could legitimately say that Alabama was fortunate to win but they most assuredly deserved to win. Nothing was given to them. Alabama made plays. They had previously been robbed of a possession by an egregious no-call that awarded USC the ball deep in Alabama territory, leading to their final score.

Again, Alabama richly deserved this win.
