Bama Game Thread: Official PostGame Thread - Bama @ USCe...

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

I was just checking the stats and noticed Isaiah Horton didn’t have any catches or attempts. And now that I think about it, I don’t recall seeing him on the field. Does anyone else remember seeing him play?

Definitely take the touchdown. I also on defense would force them to kick the field goal. If we had a one point lead I could see why they would want us to score.

But with under a minute left and no timeouts I like our chances up seven rather than trying to kick a field goal.

That’s why I don’t understand the theory of letting Germie score. The game is tied, they would need a TD in 37 seconds with no TOs. It makes no sense. I think it more likely Bama would miss the FG.

Beamer-
"If he got the first down. Same scenario as last year. If you look back at the game last year, they really shouldn't have scored the touchdown. If you remember that play, they scored on fourth down, we busted the coverage. The only reason that we had a drive to throw to Nyck and an onside kick was because they scored and gave us the ball back. I wanted them to kick. That's why I used my timeouts. I wanted them to kick a 40-something yard field goal. But we said, if they get the first down, we need to let them score because otherwise they're just going to run the clock down and basically kick an extra point to win the game."

I was at the 2010 debacle in Columbia. It felt like we were going to fight our way out of the stadium, people trying to throw beer on you, running up to you getting in your face. I cannot stand that place. Felt good to see long faces looming over the shrubs they were getting ready to hop and celebrate. With that said, this should have been a 35-14 game. BUT... At least we fought through adversity in a game that seemed like we were not getting breaks. Winning ugly is better than losing pretty. I will take it. Team has some grit, when it counts.
I was at that game too. I grew up outside Columbia and always knew that Gamecock fans had a massive inferiority complex. I am not the kind of fan who acts obnoxiously with opposing fans, especially at their place. But we got harassed nonstop all the way out of that stadium and all the way down that long street away from the fair grounds. It was ridiculous.

I have to hand it to Coach Beamer for setting us up for the win as well. I hate it when coaches go for 2 after a touchdown in the third quarter or early fourth quarter. So many times that lost point becomes a game changer, just like it did today. It would have meant that SC was going to be ahead but instead we scored the touchdown to tie the game. The game would have been 23-22, and SC just had to run the ball up the middle and maybe punt, instead of getting the ball stripped and setting us up for the game winning score.
Sure, but we also don’t know how them having one more point would have changed our playcalling and decisions after that, etc etc. if we had to score twice to have a chance, we also don’t eat 5min of clock to score the TD because we know that won’t do it. And that would change how SC played defense on that drive, etc etc.

On the ‘Stitious Scale, I max out at Super. I had a class reunion to go to tonight, so other than my necklace, nothing else was my normal game day attire. I got to watch almost all of the 1st half, but had to listen to most of the 3rd quarter. Around 5:30, I had to stop listening and then heard only the last 50 seconds. All of my game day routines were completely messed up, but I promise to correct that in 2 weeks when we face LSU. LOL

What I’ve found is that it’s usually the context surrounding the game that determines how you are treated by the average fan at their place. Everyone I talk to says “Ole Miss fans are great and it’s always fun to go to oxford” but going to Oxford was by far my worst road trip experience with fans of opposing teams. But I went to the 2016 game in which they had Hugh at his height, a 2 game win streak on us, and they took a 3 TD lead on us.

My one trip to Columbia SC was a good one. It was the 2019 game and their fans were great. I had heard horror stories from people who went in 2010 but i never experienced it. The only negatives was it was hot as hell, sandstorm was played too much, that chicken on the PA, and it was generally a dull Gameday production overall ( meaning there really wasn’t anything bringing me back). In the SEC there are only 4 places I’ve never been and that is Oklahoma, Vandy, Georgia, and Arkansas. Out of those 4 I probably will only be willing to go to Vandy and Arkansas

Is there anything worse than a poor winner?
