Jess N's postgame article is stuck at the top. Approach with caution those of you who are still blaming the refs.

So in Bowl games you don't pull for SEC teams? I mean I understand not pulling for certain rivals. Nobody would expect a Bama fan to pull for Allbarn or a Georgia fan to root for Florida, but if Ole Miss, Kentucky, A&M etc. is playing in a Bowl or playing a non-SEC foe, I'm going to cheer them on.
I hope the SEC only has 1 bowl victory. There is no benefit for cheering for those that cheer for our demise.

what is lost in this discussion is that we just didnt have quality players not enough of them. There have been busts on multiple top recruiting classes.

We had enough players to beat them. Our scheme on defense is garbage and let a bad offense put 34 points on the board.

I don't know that I've ever been so damned angry after an Alabama loss in my 40-plus years as a fan.

I realize I've pointed out here ad Tideseum that you can't blame losses on the refs because you have to overcome their mistakes by not making your own.

I'm so mad, I could eat nails right now. That nonsense call to end the first half - how in the world do you get to START with your team in position for a field goal that they only got that position because you missed the call in the first place? I remember thinking that, "Wouldn't it be hilarious if we blocked it and ran it back?"

But I knew we wouldn't. We played bad in several phases, good in some others, but the fact of the matter is that the guys in the white and black stripes had an inordinate say in the outcome, and while I'm usually the type to salute the conqueror, screw 'em. You got given that game, plain and simple.

But I'm going to give a variation of the famous Jim Mora press conference just to relieve a bit of stress:

"Well, I'll start off by saying this: Do not blame that game on JUST the defense, OK? I don't care who you play -- whether it's a high school team, a junior college team, a college team, much less a RANKED SEC team on the road. When you get called for 13 penalties, throw two interceptions - both for touchdowns - you ain't going to beat anybody I just talked about. Anybody. All right?

And that was a disgraceful performance in my opinion. We threw that game. We gave it away by doing that. We gave them the friggin' game. In my opinion, that sucked. Ah. You know? You can't turn the ball over like that. Holy crap! I don't know who the hell we think we are when we do something like that. Unbelievable.

WHAT'S THAT? Ah -- playoffs? Don't talk about -- playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a game!

Another game. Maybe this year.

For years, AU, UGA, LSU all recruited just as well as we did. What set us apart from them is how we developed all that talent. A lot of undeveloped talent for us. But even with that, we got 11 (and possibly 12) wins out of the deal.

what is lost in this discussion is that we just didnt have quality players not enough of them. There have been busts on multiple top recruiting classes.

I know the defense made mistakes, but some of Auburn's big plays were passes that were thrown up for grabs. We stopped ourselves too many times with penalties. However the main reason we lost was the dumb play call when we had a 1st down on the 2 yard line. You have 4 plays to score. Run the damn ball! Fourteen point turnaround was too much to overcome! We had too many young players in the game due to a rash of injuries. Bama would have been the best team in the nation if it had a little injury luck, or Auburn's luck.

The reason they happened was losing contain and extending the play. All we needed to do was keep Nix in the pocket and make him executed designed offense consistently and we win by 2 scores or more. Couldn't do it like we couldn't do it all season which is why I was reduced to "hoping and praying" we'd beat a team with a bad offense in the weeks leading up to this game.

A reminder that I'm neither an Eeyore or an alarmist.

Although I was young at the time (13 or so), I lived through the end of the Bryant dynasty.

Be forewarned: we are beginning to see SOME of the same signs that happened then. (And not just that Saban now is only a year younger than CPB when Bryant passed; he's clearly in better physical shape and hasn't spent years smoking unfiltered Chesterfields)

I'm not saying it's done, but we DO have some issues. The recapture or resolution will depend on what is done.

I agree the offense contributed a lot to the loss too. Pick sixes were a 21 point swing. That's largely due to playing a guy who was basically untested...

I also agree the officiating was pitiful but that's the modern game in the SEC...beat the refs and the other team.

1) Bryant won most of those games without scholarship restrictions

2) Remind me how many times Bryant had to go face Auburn in Jordan Hare

3) Remind me how many times Saban had the good fortune to coach against Doug Barfield
1) as did everyone else

2) is auburn undefeated at Jordan Hare?

3) wasn’t Barfield a high school coach like ...Gus? Never mind Shug

I agree...........I think Saban is capable of getting it straightened out, but all good things do come to an end.......but i dont think the end is nigh

Bama had faaaar more talent than AU. Bama abused AU's strong point - they ran well and passed well. 520 yards worth. The better, more talented team lost. Frankly some of the reason was simple bad fortune, something that "analysts" and fans ignore. But it's also obvious the D coaching is lacking - Bama has at least 6 starters on D who will be drafted, probably more. Most teams would drool over that. Bama's D gave up 34 to a poor O. AU did make some very good plays, but not 34 pts worth. Talent was not the issue.

We could've given up 150 to Whitlow so long as we didn't let Nix turn trash into treasure on offense. But we gave up nearly that to Whitlow but also allowed the trash-to-treasure from Nix.

This defensive scheme is beat. Aranda's LSU defense has been as bad as ours most of the year but even they figured out how to limit Auburn to 20 points.

Yeah, but Saban says that Auburn substituted and Alabama was not given time to do the same. So that one is on the officials.
I thought that was a very quick penalty. Auburn did their substitution so we sent the defense back out and were in the process of getting Waddle off the field. But he was way down field during the substitution. I call it just more SEC ref crap.
