1) as did everyone else

2) is auburn undefeated at Jordan Hare?

3) wasn’t Barfield a high school coach like ...Gus? Never mind Shug

The comparison is Saban vs Bryant.

Saban doesn't get to give out scholarships like he's Santa Claus.
Bryant didn't play in the house of horrors, which is where this problem arises

We could've given up 150 to Whitlow so long as we didn't let Nix turn trash into treasure on offense. But we gave up nearly that to Whitlow but also allowed the trash-to-treasure from Nix.

This defensive scheme is beat. Aranda's LSU defense has been as bad as ours most of the year but even they figured out how to limit Auburn to 20 points.
I see a change coming

I think at the end of the day is losing so many players to the draft each year finally caught up with us. Aubarn was full of seniors on defense.
and they got torched by our offense with the backup QB starting his third game. I just don't buy that one. We lost because our scheme is beat like an ashy bowl of weed.

Someone said it earlier, and I agree wholeheartedly, that this is the most hollow 10 win season in our history. It’s not because we weren’t a good team, but because our schedule was set up such that we knew we’d be 8-0 heading into the LSU game. We were just that much better in terms of personnel than everyone else outside of the 2 game schedule we faced. That’s what makes this loss sting so bad. Not only did we lose to our two biggest rivals, but we lost to the only two teams that had a shot at beating us.

I’m still processing this loss, and while it doesn’t surpass 2013 in terms of disappointment, it still feels surreal.

Here’s to a solid showing in the bowl game, and hopes to a better outcome next year. Every player that Saban has recruited and that stayed 3 years or more has won a national title.

A reminder that I'm neither an Eeyore or an alarmist.

Although I was young at the time (13 or so), I lived through the end of the Bryant dynasty.

Be forewarned: we are beginning to see SOME of the same signs that happened then. (And not just that Saban now is only a year younger than CPB when Bryant passed; he's clearly in better physical shape and hasn't spent years smoking unfiltered Chesterfields)

I'm not saying it's done, but we DO have some issues. The recapture or resolution will depend on what is done.
Good post. The dynasty is not dead but we have work to do to maintain it, 4 of the worst losses in Saban's tenure has come since 2017. 2017 Auburn, 2019 Clemson, 2019 LSU, and 2019 Auburn, work needs to be done.

I don't know that I've ever been so damned angry after an Alabama loss in my 40-plus years as a fan.

I realize I've pointed out here ad Tideseum that you can't blame losses on the refs because you have to overcome their mistakes by not making your own.

I'm so mad, I could eat nails right now. That nonsense call to end the first half - how in the world do you get to START with your team in position for a field goal that they only got that position because you missed the call in the first place? I remember thinking that, "Wouldn't it be hilarious if we blocked it and ran it back?"

But I knew we wouldn't. We played bad in several phases, good in some others, but the fact of the matter is that the guys in the white and black stripes had an inordinate say in the outcome, and while I'm usually the type to salute the conqueror, screw 'em. You got given that game, plain and simple.

But I'm going to give a variation of the famous Jim Mora press conference just to relieve a bit of stress:

"Well, I'll start off by saying this: Do not blame that game on JUST the defense, OK? I don't care who you play -- whether it's a high school team, a junior college team, a college team, much less a RANKED SEC team on the road. When you get called for 13 penalties, throw two interceptions - both for touchdowns - you ain't going to beat anybody I just talked about. Anybody. All right?

And that was a disgraceful performance in my opinion. We threw that game. We gave it away by doing that. We gave them the friggin' game. In my opinion, that sucked. Ah. You know? You can't turn the ball over like that. Holy crap! I don't know who the hell we think we are when we do something like that. Unbelievable.

WHAT'S THAT? Ah -- playoffs? Don't talk about -- playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a game!

Another game. Maybe this year.
I couldn't have said it better myself. A disgraceful performance, that's exactly what this was.

So in Bowl games you don't pull for SEC teams? I mean I understand not pulling for certain rivals. Nobody would expect a Bama fan to pull for Allbarn or a Georgia fan to root for Florida, but if Ole Miss, Kentucky, A&M etc. is playing in a Bowl or playing a non-SEC foe, I'm going to cheer them on.
Well They all hate us! They say they cheer against us any time we played for the title so why would we cheer for them???

“No coach bashing?” Ok. This has really surprised me tonight. Some may need to go back and read the LSU threads. We were hit with a perfect storm of injuries, a horrible kicking game, and awful luck this year. I find it funny how some “experts” here want to say the game has passed the 3-4 by lol. We weren’t in that more than 3 or 4 plays tonight. Where are the enforcers tonight?

Sometimes, it's good to let it out this way. Personally, I'd rather have them do that here than to have us read about them shooting their neighbor. :)

I’m agreeing with Jess in that unless the change starts with how Alabama recruits and coaches discipline then this season is the rule and not the exception.

Tua masked two horrible defenses, and in the end it wasn’t enough. Our defense is probably not getting better next year, and our offense will probably take a step back as well. But our talent will win 10-11 games. But if our defense and discipline doesn’t substantially improve then we are likely in the same situation we are now next year.

As far as 10-win seasons.......this is by far the most hollow.

In 1989, we blew out Ole Miss after trailing early by 21, and we had that unforgettable win over Penn St.
Even the MSU and LSU games were fun.

Losing to Auburn was wounding, but oh well.

In 2005, we skated through the post-Prothro period by sheer luck and determination.

In 2010, it was frustrating, but we had some highs against Arkansas (where we never gave up) and Florida.

This year has none of that.

Adopt Ohio State as a second team. We are still working to wash the stink of Meyer off, but at least we are trying.
I am rooting for a Jalen Hurts national championship. At least I can act like he won it because of lessons he learned at Alabama.

You said it. They throw parties down here when BAMA loses a game. The last thing I want to see is LSU or Georgia win a championship. Now I will pull for SEC teams when they are in just regular bowl games.

I agree the offense contributed a lot to the loss too. Pick sixes were a 21 point swing. That's largely due to playing a guy who was basically untested...

I also agree the officiating was pitiful but that's the modern game in the SEC...beat the refs and the other team.
Let’s talk about Mac and being “untested”. It is the thing that has stuck in my craw for the last several years. Get up big on an opponent and we run the back up guy in to “hand off the ball”. Why? We’ve had plenty of opportunities to give Mac to “the full Monty” in terms of the playbook. But we don’t. Other teams don’t have this problem. Second and team guys come in and they sling it all over the field. We wasted a lot a chances at more meaningful snaps for Mac this year.

The idea was to keep Alabama punt returner Jaylen Waddle on the sideline, but when the Crimson Tide noticed it, they had a mass substitution, but ultimately they were flagged for too many men on the field. That allowed Auburn a first down because it was fourth down and 4, and the Tigers ran out the clock and won 48-45.

Saban on that last Alabama penalty: “I really feel it’s a pretty unfair play,” Matt Zenitz reported.

For his part, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn explained the events and admitted Auburn tried to goad Alabama into the substitution error, and it worked.

I just don't think it is coach bashing at this juncture. Dude had all year to find a way to take pressure off the ILBs and DL but instead he let the OLBs continue to dead-red after the QB on passing downs and put those guys in no win scenarios to clean up the mess. This ain't 2016. We don't have Daron Payne, Jon Allen, and Reuben Foster out there to clean up aggressive rushes from Tim Williams. He literally put those guys in no-win scenarios all season.

Ohio State is a very good team this season. If they play LSU in the playoff, that could make for a heck of a game. I can't stand LSU too.
UGA is about the only one I cannot pull for at all. I also will be pulling for whoever plays Clemson. I want someone....anyone...to skulldrag that team all through the CFP!!!! That's one classless fanbase if you ask me.

Not piling on CNS but that is all on him. He's said he doesn't want to run up scores because the players on the other team have moms and dads too. Ironically, that reasoning doesn't really seem to fit his personality that well IMO.
